I'm glad to see that someone else remembers Poop!! I'm not sure
if he is still with the band. The best Poop story was at the
Birch Hell show on the Home For the Holiday's tour. The band
was coming back up on stage to do the encore but the stage was
all dark and the band couldn't see shit. James says something to
the effect of "hey, it's dark up here and we can't see" or "I wish
the lighting crew would get it together" or someshit and then
    Mike yells "WAKE UP POOP!!".

    I loved it!

The fan club gives amazing value for money. It's not just some dumb fanzine . . . it's a proper mini-magazine packed with great material direct from the horses' mouths, so to speak. Neil is in frequent touch with DT members and management, and there's loads of stuff in there that we just don't get on the jam.

The bonus CDs at Christmas, signed posters, etc, really make the whole fan club worthwhile. People who complain about the fan club cost, and who think that we should get DT freebies just for subscribing to the jam, are really being a bit silly.

Actually, DT did two full UK tours back in 1993 (for I&W, and then for LATM). They went all over England, Scotland and Wales (I got to see them in both Glasgow and Edinburgh).

Sadly, though, the UK tour for Awake only consisted of a solitary show in London.

Well, you see, we have these laws about alcohol--specifically that you must be 21+ to purchase and drink. Agree or not, they currently exist and you have to work w/ them. When a band plays at locations that serve alcohol, most likely you'll need to be 21+ to get in, since they'll be selling alcohol that night. Why? To make money. It's just that simple.

    If you don't like it:

    a) Try to start your own all ages club. Deal w/ rent, taxes, insurance, booking, security, etc., and you'll soon see why these places want to sell alcohol to increase their revenue.

    and/or

    b) Try to (politely!) convince certain clubs that they can actually recoup the expenses (and more) by having some shows all ages (no alcohol) or mixed ages (usually wristbands or hand stamps). You'll need to make sure plenty of underage fans show up and wave their little green dollars into the tills for this to work--the administration of things such as mixed ages can be a big hassle, and the authorities usually have a very careful eye on these events. One bad apple _can_ spoil this situation.

While I believe that more music should be available to all ages, clubs don't run on ideology--they run on money. They may believe in your cause, but you'll have to convince them w/ cash.

Of course, these options take time, and probably won't help you for any upcoming DT dates. Sorry, can't help you there--trying to fake your way in can land you in jail in every U.S. city I know of, so I don't recommend it (yes, I know plenty of people will do it anyway, even succeed).

Yeah, it's a bummer. I remember looking forward to my 21st birthday. Not so I could drink, but so I could go see bands play live.

I was a bit surprised -- but not devastated -- that we weren't mentioned within FII, but consider:

For every one of us on the Jam, DT has N fans out there who care about the band as much as, and in some cases probably more than, we do. We have no monopoly on DT "fannishness." We are not the apex or the zenith of their fandom. We are a sizeable part, we are a friendly part, and above all we're a LOUD part, but there are plenty of others out there who support the band, who will follow the tour (if only they can find out the damn dates :)), who buy the bootlegs.....

It's easy as shit to read messages in a mailing list, respond to them, exchange email online......it's a lot harder to exchange postal letters, write letters to the fan club in the hope they'll be published in the DT fanzine (or answered by someone), etc. In some ways, WE'RE the ones who have it easy. Think about it.

Maybe when DT thanks their fans around the world, it's their way of including ALL of us. Not just the ones who post on here or on the newsgroups, but the ones who, say, fly to New York from Phoenix just to catch DT at those Christmas shows, and who WEREN'T on the Jam. Ask Mike Bahr; he was on the same plane with them.

    +-----------+

Atlanta and Southeast-area DT fans (whether you're online or not :)), get in touch; I'm assembling an email list for SE shows, on the certain hope that they'll tour down here EVENTUALLY. (Labrie promised me they'd be playing Atlanta, so if they don't, there's gonna be a LOT of dead caribou out there somewhere. :))

FOR ANYONE, if you are travelling to the Atlanta date (whenever it's announced; see above regarding caribou massacres), I'll have room here for several travelling jammers if you don't mind a floor.

There's a large chunk of 'Jammers and the fan-base as a whole under the age of 21-ness. I myself will go on the record -- my name is Brian Henderson, and I...I...I'm an 18-year-old! Considering a huge portion of the Ytsecommunity goes to college, and most college kids are between the ages of 18 and 22, that says right there that 3/4 or so of them would be unable to gain entry to one of these anal clubs. Perhaps they don't realize I have money. Maybe I won't be buying booze there, but I'm still paying admittance, and buying the band's merchandize. Why don't these clubs do a bracelet system, like they did at Birch Hill? (Egads -- I'm using Bitch Hell as a *positive* example!!) That'd solve their problems. My ID/age is only necessary if I want to drink, and they can readily identify me by my type ("...bracelets on thars...", much like a Sneech).

    Gotta run, campadres.

I can't believe some of you were or are upset by JP calling some of his earlier music immature. This is getting a little beyond being a fan, and a little closer to being a psycho. Besides, just because JP wrote a song 5 years ago, and now considers it to be rough around the edges, or less "well constructed", doesn't mean it's bad, or that he's embarrassed by it. It just means he feels he's grown from that stage of his life (In his own words). Now I owe a lot of you a big :P for saying that I'm wrong when I thought DT had become more mature, because AT LEAST one member of the band agrees with that.

Let's support the band if we like the music, discuss the music, and be ourselves... let's not get all picky about what the band should be or get upset because opinions differ from our own. We are all jammers in the E-Mail Melting Pot. :)

Someone psychically stole a web page idea from my head. I wanted to create a page for Ytsejammers to go, sign in, and mark what shows they'd be attending so we could all attempt to meet each other at shows... Merlo's idea is fine and dandy, but way ineffective in most areas other than the east coast (where yall have already met at the abundance of DT shows that most of us couldn't get to). If there's an aftershow, you may not have time to stand in front of the stage... if the bouncers suck, they may herd you out after the show... if you can't get a Ytsejam shirt (I don't really believe this excuse... Gabbo is here, alive, and somewhat well) you may not be picked out of the crowd by other jammers.... in ANY case, I think this web page should be written. I have missed several jams, so I may have missed a URL of an existing page that accomplishes this. PLEASE post the URL again if it exists, or (to the original poster who also came up with this idea) PLEASE write me if you can't get such a page up and running, or have abandoned the idea.

I want ALL of you who are attending the Chicago show to get a chance to kick my ass like some of you wish you could!

In lieu of such a web page, anyone who wants to hook up for the Chicago show, who needs a ride to the Chicago show, who needs a place to stay after the Chicago show, ...who has ANYTHING TO SAY about the Chicago show... email me, and I'll keep track of yall, so we can try to stay organized!

    Take care!
