Can someone who has it or tried it please tell me their opinion about it?

I read that you guys are looking for Enchant and Shadow Gallery cd's. You can
get them easiest at Tower Records....also look into Altura, they are another
decent band on the Magna Carta label....
Lastly, look into Clockwork, a philly band. You can order their stuff at
    www.netti.fi/~japi Really great stuff

Some can read them. Sony's DVD player does read them as well as
Video-CDR's. Pioneer's LaserDisc/DVD player can read audio CD-Rs, but not
    Video-CDR's.

Surely Tempest isn't prog metal. It is Celtic prog. If you like Jethro
Tull and prog then Tempest is for you.

I would hope Mindspring changes the johndenver link soon else legal
problems and pure disdain could occur. Just think how many people are
entering in http://www.johndenver.com and getting mindspring? Mindspring
is bound to get a bad rap from this.

I was thinking about all the James Labrie DT albums and for me there is
1 song on each that it is difficult for me to become familiar
with. I dont really know why because they are all great songs but anyway
    the songs are:
    Images&Words:Under A Glass Moon
    Awake:Scarred
    FII:Just Let Me Breath

I don't know if it is because there isn't anything catchy in those songs
    or what...

    A few topics discussed recently:

Bert Baldwin asked if we could repost tour dates from rsabbs.com/dt
since lynx users can't navigate the bitmap in the title page. I know
they've been posted so far, but for future reference, I'll note that for
this and similar sites all it takes is a bit more time to type out the
pages you want. The latest tour dates are currently on the what's new
page, while the tourdates page isn't updated yet. Anyway, the URLs
you want which are accessible with lynx are
    http://www.rsabbs.com/dt/whatsnew.html
    http://www.rsabbs.com/dt/tourdates.html

Clark Abel gave a discussion on how he thinks music like rap and
country is just background music for their fans, and doesn't really
touch them. I have to agree, except that some people just get into the
lyrics alone.. and who wouldn't get teary-eyed about the story of Clint
Black's dog gettin' run over? :) Seriously, I do think that you could
quantify this.. this music likely "touches" a smaller percentage of its
listeners than DT, classical, jazz, etc. The power of "our" kind of
music is undeniable. I don't go to many classical concerts, but after
one I saw of Shostakovich symphony no. 5 I think, I saw among
the people leaving the auditorium this older woman who was openly
crying. That's musical power, and sadly I don't think many country or
rap (or even some pop) listeners will ever understand it.

About the fan club, C-man, etc. Yes, I remember C-man. Maybe he gave
that stuff away because the official fan club(s) weren't as well
organized back then, and we were the quickest outlet for their
promotional goodies. I'm saddened too that we're no longer on the
gravy train here, but oh well. I do agree with Kai that we don't have a
"leg up" on information like we used to, because we lost our contacts
like Jim Pitulski recently... but I'm certain we'll get someone else
(maybe even C-man) on our side soon enough. :)

BTW, my comment that Denver died doing something he liked wasn't supposed to be taken as it makes his death better...just that it's better than dying unhappy or doing something you hate and wish you weren't doing in the first place. ie Being subjected to non stop Oasis until death. I picked up the new issue of Guitar World based on the front cover showing a picture of Dave Navaro and Flea and saying they will be playing on the new Janes Addiction album. TO my pleasent surprise there was an article with John Petrucci in it. It wasn't very long but interesting nonetheless. At the end of the article it states that starting next month John will be a monthly columnist! What a surprise.....

In addition to the magazin they included a cd sampler or new music. On it are various groups like Sevendust, Life of Agony, Robin Trower, and most notable our very own DT with the song BMS, along with a little snipped of the band in the booklet that accompanies the cd. Now if that's not promotion? There is also a 1/3 page ad for the new album in the mag as well. So they are getting out there, we just have to make people listen....and listen hard!!!

At the local Tower where I picked up the mag DT was at #19 on their weekly chart and as far as I could tell there was only one copy of FII in the store. But to show you how smart my local tower is, they have both Enchant and Divine Regal in the thrash/Death metal section! Thats all for now....

Hey alll! I completely disagree with this interpretation of "Smells." It is EXACTLY about being in your twenties. And looking back at your last few years. The whole grunge movement is about the disenchanted collegiates/post-collegiates left in a society "crippled" by the excess of the 80s. Nothing left for us when it's our turn to be living on our own. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Keep in mind I'm not a Nirvana fan) The song is supposed to be about the angst of being a teenager - admittedly a little bit of a reach for guys in their twenties - but it conveys this emotion very clearly, as well as some anger and frustration. Mike >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anyway, too much text for Nirvana on this list. Has there been a meeting set for Jammers at the Chicago show? I'm pushing way up front. I'll probably be the only Black/Italian person there, so I'll be easy to find. :) Steve

    Very hard to know.

They have two albums and one EP (I'm talking about widely know albums, not about the Evil Warning EP). The two albums are called "Angels Cry" and "Holy Land". AC has some similarities with "Keeper" era Helloween, if you know them, but AC has more classical music influences. HL has even more classical music influences (for instance, it starts off with a song composed by a Renascence composer called Giovanni da Palestrina). But it also has some of our brazilian rhythms. The EP is called "Freedom Call" and it has the Judas Priest tribute that you heard, and some cool versions of some songs, live songs etc.

One other thing....has anyone had a similar experience(I think I read one earlier this week)? I recently played Hollow Years for my girlfriend, and now she loves DT. She has borrowed(which in girl language means stolen :) ) all of my DT CD's! Just wondering if I am the only one who has experienced this "mysterious phenomenon" :)

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who feels this way (though the last time I brought this up, I was flamed). Derek is a great keyboardist, and a great player... and I really like the jazz influence in some of his writing.

BUT... I just can't see Derek ever writing something that rivals Eve, WFS, or SDV. Or some of Kevin's keyboard parts within other songs (like OAMOT).

I mean, shit, Eve is just such a cool song. I don't know how to express the way I feel about it though... it's not my favourite DT song, and it's not the most complex... it's just different, and awesome. IMHO, of all the individual aspects of DT's music, Kevin's writing was the most original and most unique thing about DT.

Anyway, Derek is still cool, and DT still rule, but I don't like hearing this "Derek's playing is great, he totally fills the void", etc. stuff that some people have said, because I really don't think you can compare Derek's playing to Kevin's. DT aren't quite the same band now (but that doesn't mean they're any worse/better).

nOK, I have to chime in here. I am blind and as a result, my hearing is more refined than others. It isn't better, just more refined. I can say that I can tell when a TV is on, and the sound that is produced is almost painful t my ears. It was especially bad in high school when the teacher would turn the tV on just before showing a video. I was in sheer pain from the high-frequency tone that was sounded. Nobody else heard it, though, and I was laughed at as a result, but still... I bet if I listened hard enough, I could tell the pitch of the sound.

Ok...I'm a new poster. I like DT a lot, and I think FII is a really good album and all...but when I saw someone include the line "how can you keep your head and not go insane when the light at the end of the tunnel is another train." I just got sick...it's just a lame re-enstatement of a David Lee Roth lyric that he used on the Skyscraper album. Plus, DLR phrases it much better..."when the light at the end of the tunnel is the front of an oncoming train." FII is very listenable album, musically, but the lyrics are the lamest. But I guess no-one listens to DT for the lyrics.
