Just to let you guys know two things:

    1) I have Petrucci's copy ready to be sent off. Will get that in the mail
this weekend. I'm sending him the Bucket O'Tab version. Keep your fingers
crossed that a) he'll get it, b) he will approve, and c) he'll send back
    corrections.

    2) The TAB files can now only be found at Kevin Hammers sight. I haven't
sent him an update to part I (which contained one typo). I'll let you know
when that is available. Find the files at:
    http://www.getaway.net/khammer/acos/

Kevin has plans for a Dream Theater TAB Project site (which will contain
tabs for guitar, bass, drums with improved MIDI). If you would like to be
involved or have ideas, please email either of us.

Now this is just like the title says: A HYPOTHETICAL situation.

I was just sitting here listining to WDADU and was thinking to myself, "What
if Kevin Moore, after hearing FII, decided he wanted to come back to the
band?" What would the group say? I mean he is after all an original
member. I'm curious, if I was in the band, what I would think. Be a pretty
    strange situation don't you agree?

Suppose I'll finally pop in here....

In their defense, they don't point new domains to their server (that's a good thing), and they can't just change the way something works on a customer (see his "grandfathered" in). There were (still are?) several ISP's that did this same sort of setup (I believe Earthlink does this). I personally don't like this and they don't need to do it for supporting email (they don't even need an IP address assigned).

The domain is owned by Art Jackson (according to InterNIC), not MindSpring, so they are correct when they say they don't own it.

Therefore I would recommend NOT sending all your disgust messages to MindSpring. This would be the same as someone emailing hate letters to your ISP because you had registered the domain name mikeportney.com and then he died.

Well, first of all, i don't think Kev would do that even if he wanted to, unless DT were looking for a new keys-man. If he actually went ahead and did that, i'd say no because

    A) he left the band suddenly, right before a major tour...kinda sucks dontcha think?

    B) It'd a great diss on Derek, especially after he's integrated into that band and added so much to their sound.

It would suck to say no to friend, but at the same time, him trying to get back in all of a sudden would kinda suck as well.

Kevin ain't comin' back:) I'm really looking forward to hear chromakey though. (Even though I'll probably have grandchildren by the time it comes out.

Alright, to clarify once again for those who don't know how DNS works - the guy who wrote this message is obviously among them. When someone registeres for Domain Hosting through Mindspring, or any ISP, and doesn't put a page up but just uses the domain name for email, guess what comes up. The default homepage for the host of that domain - in this case mindspring.com. It's generally not a good idea to flame anyone or anything until you actually know what you're talking about. Jesus...

Honestly? I would at most let him guest play on one song, probably. I think Derek is doing a great job with Dream Theater, and it wouldn't be fair to him to suddenly say "Sorry, Derek, but Kevin's coming back...it was nice while it lasted...don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." Don't get me wrong, though, I think Kevin Moore is awesome. The only way I would let him back in the band as a full member, though, is if Derek decided to leave, or the rest of the Band didn't think he was cutting it. However, I feel the latter is far from the truth (and also hope he doesn't have any plans of leaving anytime soon).

I really like Derek's influence on FII. It brings a welcome change (IMHO) to Dream Theater's sound, and I can't wait to hear what they will come up with next. I can't say Kevin is better or Derek is better, just that they are different and create different influences on the sound.

I just hope that due to many people's less then favorable view of FII because of the different style, doesn't cloud their judgement of how good Derek is.

On a related note, however, I think FII kicks ass and it is a welcome addition to my Dream Theater library. (I'm still going to probably have to say Awake is the fav for me, though).

Bummers. I saw Dream Theater on the Images & Words tour in Toledo at some club (Roxanne's or something like that). Galactic Cowboys opened up, then their was something like a 1 hour pause between bands and DT came on at midnight and jammed until around 2 in the morning (made that 3.5 hour drive back so I could get to my 7am job real fun!).

Ummmm, wrong. DLR may have used it, but it's an old saying - he was just as guilty of ripping it off as DT is. And BTW, I often listen to DT for the lyrics. Not to say that the music isn't great, of course.

Also, the intro of You Not Me reminds me of Vaseline by STP.

Please. Not only do I work for an ISP, and can assure you this is EXCATLY how some ISPs work virtual domains, but I have talked to Jeff before and he's a great guy, he's helped me deal with abusive users from Mindspring before. Lay off Mindspring if you don't understand how the internet works. You want someone to complain to, complain here, ask The Arthur Jackson Group why they registered johndenver.com YEARS ago, but leave Mindspring alone. They are one of the best national providers and don't need uninformed users tarnishing their name (some of their users are doing a good enough job already).
