    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

    Paul quoth:

    >If any Atlanta/Georgia/Southeast US Ytsejammers are interested in
    >roadtripping up to see the Nov. 1st Chicago show -- it's a Saturday
    >show, hooray -- please send me email. Mark Peters, Phil Carter, Eric
    >Marlett, others who have emailed me recently, whatcha wanna do? :)

Yo. *raises hand* I'll go. Probably shouldn't (I can't really afford it)
but for Ged's sake, we never get any decent prog concerts round here (Fates
didn't play round here, I haven't seen any DT tourdates, and I'll bet my
copy of "Dead Winter Dead" that Savatage won't be touring anywhere near
    here either).

Plus, the idea of hanging out with other 'jammers who listen to prog music
WILLINGLY (as opposed to my friends, who seldom do except when I force
them) -- well, the idea kind of rocks. I can see a van full of 'jammers
(the Notorius B.I.G. S.W.I.F.T.Y. would probably be up for the trip --
Mark, you've got a van, don't you?) blasting down the road with DT
shattering windows of nearby cars. Heh, heh, heh.

Paul, I would've mailed this to you, but -- well, I work at an ISP, and
we've been getting all sorts of complaints (well, okay, only six different
ones) lately from people who haven't been able to access crl.com --
bouncing email, pings/traceroutes not accepted, the works. So I wanted to
    make sure you'd see this.

    Cheers,
    Phil

    >good album and all...but when I saw someone include the line "how can you
    >keep your head and not go insane when the light at the end of the tunnel
    >is another train." I just got sick...it's just a lame re-enstatement of a
    >David Lee Roth lyric that he used on the Skyscraper album. Plus, DLR
    >phrases it much better..."when the light at the end of the tunnel is the
    >front of an oncoming train." FII is very listenable album, musically, but
    >the lyrics are the lamest. But I guess no-one listens to DT for the
    >lyrics.

Wow. I dont think that when I was new on the jam that Iwould have had the
    gonads to post this.

Chances are that when he wrote the lyrics to the song, MP knew that he was
paraphrasing the words of another, in this case, David Lee Roth. He is
pretty knowledgable about other peoples music...There is no restriction for
using similar ideas in different contexts. Hell, lets face it, pretty much
EVERYTHING has been written about. Kinda reminds me of what my trumpet
teacher said to me a while ago. "The trumpet has been around for a long
time. Pretty much every technical study that could be written has been
written." So an overlapping of ideas in art, specifically music, is bound
to happen once in a while. We are all humans, we all think alike, so one
thought isn't necessarily copyrighted the second it is expressed.

BTW, did I mention that I COMPLETELY disagree with you about lyrics? : )
If you want powerful lyrics, listen to a song like TAMP, Voices, SDV, PS,
and so on. I wouldnt be able to stop if I were to start blabbering about
LTL. Now THERE is a powerhouse of emotion. So just because New Millenium
doesnt float your boat doesnt mean that DT sucks at writing. I tend to
think that DT's greatest asset (other than technical ability) is their
ability to write thought provoking lyrics.

And DT being *_LISTENABLE_*? hehe, Bush is "listenable". Hanson is
    "listenable."

Dream Theater is more than listenable, and I dont particularly want to get
into this, but I trust you understand my gist.

    IMHO, of course : )

Great, but you saved the file in ALL CAPS (so it's
http://www.j51.com/~mrasiel/ANOTHER.HTM). I do like the new design,

Depends on your server. Typically, you'll need to name it index.html, or
index.htm (or default.htm if it's a fresh Microsoft install). Judging by
the home page of that server, you need "index.html".

I've heard the clip of "Why", and rather like it... but > it's only a 50sec wav file, and I'd like to get a better listen before I > buy (with Shadow Gallery/Enchant/Angra I've had at least 3 clips to listen > to) Any opinions of Superior fans... any other clips people have/willing to > make?

I'd tell you to buy it immediately, 'cause it rulz. :) 50sec of "Why" is about nothing, that song is 10min long... :) Anyway, if you want a sound clip, I have a small (about 1,5 min) sample in my page. I'll put the link to the zip file, as everything there is in portuguese: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/6308/superior.zip (it's in RealAudio, so it's a kinda small archive). About Stratovarius, "Abyss of your Eyes" is from "Visions", and the live version of "Uncertainty", if I'm not mistaken, is a bonus track of one of the versions of "Visions" (my bonus track is an AVI video of "The Kiss of Judas"). The album is great, I think everyone should take a look at it.

Also, to that guy who tried to find Angra: the only place on the INet I saw something from them was at German Music Express (www.musicexpress.com), but the prices are HIIIIIIGH.

I'll be ordering some stuff withing these days... Among the, Jason Becker, Matry Friedman and Symphony X, probably. And, Itchy, sorry, I'll order at CD Connection, it gives me the lower final price (price, S&H, and, most of all, TAXES around here...)

I'm in a writing mood now... :) To that guy who asked what Angra album to buy: buy anyone, they're all great stuff. Whatever one you chose, you won't be disappointed.

I've been visiting DR. Mosh's Ear Candy, and getting some stuff... Therion is quite interesting, although I think they could make a more mature sound. Their ideas are great, but can be better developped. Ah, of course, IMHO. :)

    Hello all,

A few people have mentioned Superior in the past week or so, and I remember hearing a lot of great things about the band when I was last on the 'jam in 1995 (great to be back!). I haven't seen any postings by Bernd Basmer or Jason Skewes, so could someone tell me how to obtain a copy? Muchos gracias.

On another subject, is Fix for '96 worth getting? I really like FII (the background vocals are some of LaBrie's best) but miss the sustain and vibrato characteristic of his prior efforts. Before FII, it was obvious that LaBrie had studied opera, but the vocals on FII seem a little stale in comparison. How does FII compare? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Therion kicks major ass. You know nothing about music. :-) (just kidding -- remember when I said that I didn't like "Awake" and you'll underdstand).

Next time you came here at home I'll show you the entire album you comprove that "Theli" is one of the most interesting things that you may have heard. The opera vocals fit so well with rock that it is simply impossible to describe.
