Someone asked last week about the band 'Beyond Reality'.
Well for those of you interested in sampling some of their music,
    head to the following page:
        http://uhavax.hartford.edu/~lutz
I know some of you are probably seeing the Savatage gig here in
    Connecticut,
so here's a taste of whats to come from the opening band....
The recording does not do them justice, it was recorded 2 years ago...
If there are any questions or problems, please let me know!
    Thanks! YtseJim

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

A moment of silence, please, at the death of the musical genius John
    Denver.... :)

    =DCber Cabe remarked:

    >By the 25th of December, TSO *will* be sold out. Believe me when I say

Okay, so just when's TSO being rereleased, then? When I heard all the fuss
about it last year I went looking for a copy, but I could never find it
anyplace. Would it be under the Savatage stuff, or under T for
Trans-Siberian Orchestra, or in the Christmas music section? I'm
    confused...not that that's anything new.=20

Merry Axemas -- that at least I know will be released tomorrow. Satch, Vai,
and Morse doing Christmas carols. I like the sound of that. :)

    Cheers,

    Hey all-
I got this in the email today and thought some might be interested!

*Trent Gardner (of Magellan) has written a new project, tentatively titled
"Impact". This is another incredible complex piece of music, which will
include some special guests. Terry Bozzio has laid down the drums and
rhythms for the album. Terry was quite impressed with the intricacy of
Trent's time changes. James Murphy (Testament, "Working Man" tribute) has
been engineering the project. Other notable guests will include John
Petrucci and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and Billy Sheehan (Mr Big,
Talas, David Lee Roth). This album will be out in the beginning of 1998.
More info as it becomes available.

*Tony Levin, John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess have recorded an
album together. Similar in concept to the "Black Light Syndrome" album, the
players went into the studio and improvised and spontaneously compose the
music. They recorded about 70 minutes worth of long instrumental progressive
rock pieces. Look for more details in the near future.

*Shadow Gallery are working away on "Tyranny", the band is promising this
album to be even more powerful than their previous efforts.

*Cairo have mixed their "Conflict and Dreams" album. Mark Robertson has gone
over the top with the keyboards for this album. Long compositions in the
tradition of their first album. Look for this in January of '98.

Check out our web site http://www.magnacarta.net/ for more complete info. I
will email out updates on a more regular basis in the future.
As always, all Cds will be available through record stores everywhere.

    Thanks,

Hands up those who are gonna buy a christmas CD in January ?
How many jammers missed out on the CD, try getting it after xmas and
    couldn't get a copy ?
The pre-christmas release of new albums is a big no-no for many major
    labels, unless the Cd
is one of those xmasy-type album or is gonna be flogged on TV or radio.
I think that the record company works on the theory that they'd save a new
    release from getting
lost in the pre-xmas ruch and have it go largely unnoticed, for a January
release to give it a better
    chance sales wise.

Okay is a mini-disc (recordable type) really worth the money ?
I only want one so I can put all my live boots (tapes) on to disc, rather

Can someone (in the USA, I wanna know the price difference between here and

Uh, is this some sort of trick question ? I guess the obvious answer would be to ask at the counter ? The logical reply from jammers would be: 'Only to get a weird 'WTF' look from the brain dead shop assistant' and 'WHO was that again, never heard of them' Maybe with some promotion some of the stores might even have-an-in-store display ?

WDADU was my first DT purchase as most of you know back in 1989, I'd say it is very special to me. Whenever I listen to WDADU I get a feeling that non of the other DT albums give me. I don't really have a single fave DT album, they are all good, songwise ACOS to my ears is the best thing the band has ever done. As for a re-recording of WDADU with KJLB on vox, NO, not ever. As someone said yesterday, some of the songs just don't suit his voice.

Wow, I think this is one of the first apologies I have ever read on the Jam. And a sincere one at that! The fact that someone actually listened to someone's arguments with openness . . . well, I guess there is hope for this world yet. Sure beats the continual flames and string of four-letter words as a reply. (By the way, that isn't my strange way of asking for flames, either . . . it is just always refreshing when you hear someone admitting that they messed up).

    ----------------------------

Can anyone help me with this riddle? I heard it over a year ago and still can't figure it out. The riddle goes: "There are three words that end in -gry . . . angry, hungry, and what? It is a word that you use almost everyday." Another version I have heard is that "if you have listened closely to what I have said, then you already heard the answer." Does anybody know what the answer to this stupid riddle is, or is it wrong.

Just wanted to remind everybody that I'll be sending Petrucci a copy of the TAB this week. I haven't heard from anybody yet (though I haven't checked my mail recently), so please send in any last minute items. I did find one typo the other day, so I will correct that on his copy first, and then try to get the updated version to the web.

My interpretation: The high-pitched sound that everyone is referring to is the sound that a TV screen makes. (Some people may be able to hear it better than others, depending on how high a frequency you can hear. Generally the ability to hear high frequencies decreases with age and with exposure to loud noises like DT concerts. :) Therefore by inserting that noise into the song, Kevin Moore is letting us know that a TV has just been turned on, because _we can hear the TV screen_. When I first heard Space-Dye Vest, my first reaction on hearing that sound was "hey it sounds like someone turned on a TV."

One final note: I think that the TV screen sound in SDV may be slightly lower in pitch than the sound made by an actual TV screen (I'm not sure), so it may be possible that some people can hear the sound in SDV, but not the (slightly higher pitched) sound of a TV screen.

Sorry to take up jam space with such a minor point.

The blond >>crooner's debut album, "Pieces of You" has sold 6 million copies in the US, >>while global sales of the album are expected to reach at least 10 million. >> >>At a time when most music companies are struggling to break new acts, >>Atlantic has propelled a host of diverse new hitmakers ranging from rock >>acts Matchbox 20 and Sugar Ray to rapper Lil' Kim and R & B artist Aaliyah. >>One of Atlantic's highest fliers has been its blockbuster movie soundtrack >>"Space Jam", which sold 5 million copies in the United States this year. >> >>$750 Million In Sales This Year >> >>All told, Atlantic's global sales will likely hit $750 Million this year, >>while its profits are expected to triple. "We're the healthiest we've been >>in Atlantic's 50-year history," said Val Azzoli, who shares the title of >>Atlantic's cochairman with label founder Ahmet Ertegun. >> >>Atlantic's comeback is especially sweet for Azzoli, a low-key 42 year old >>music exec. The music industry was waiting for Azzoli to self-destruct when >>he took over Atlantic from its long-time leader Doug Morris and its highly >>respected lieutenant, Danny Goldberg. >> >>While Azzoli--who joined Atlantic in 1990 after making his name as a rock >>band manager--had proven to be a shrewed marketer, many believed he lacked >>the talent for attracting new artists. "Everyone counted Val out," said Los >>Angeles rock manager Allen Kovack. Even Goldberg praises his successor's >>performance. "With Jewel, Sugar Ray...he has a very imressive group of hit >>records," he said. >> >>Azzoli's strides also are impressive because he has turned Atlantic into a >>bright spot at lumbering Warner Music Group, whose profits overall are >falling. >>It took a total remix at Atlantic to bring the label back. Azzoli started >>by laying off dozens of workers. He also dropped many of Atlantic's joint >>ventures with independent labels. >> >>But his most crucial strategy was aimed at cultivating new artists. He >>chopped away at the label's ballooning roster and focused on the acts he >>knew he could turn into winners. "We used to throw things against the wall >>and see what would stick," Azzoli said. "Now we put out fewer records and >>work them harder." >> >>============================================================================
