    Hi...

I hoping one of you Chicago ytsejammers might be able to help me out.
I'm planning and going out to see the DT show Nov 1 in Chicago at the
House of Blues. One problem! I live in PA and will be flying out to
stay at my brother's place in Mukwonaho, Wisconsin.

I'm looking for someone that might meet me before the show and either
help me find the show and or maybe give me a little tour of
Chicago..I've only ever drove around it.

This would be a GREAT HELP....because obviously I'll be absolutely lost
and it looks like the House of Blues in the thick of things in Chicago.

Please email privately if you are interesting in helping a fellow
    ytsejammer.

Also if there is going to be a a show in Milwaukee I will be going there
too...so if this show is happening I would also ask for some help from
    any Milwaukee fans too.

    thanks,

    Bruce Duesterhoeft

Cast is a band from Baja California, Mexico that has been making prog music
for more than 18 years! . They make good prog music with two singers. I've
five albums of them and all are very good CD's. They have a Live album
which contain live cuts from Argentina and Los Angeles. They are definetly
one of the best prog bands from Mexico. Just don=B4t miss the show!! :)

Oddly enough, I've been trying to get in a cd of a certain
French band (anyone know Magma?), apparantly released or
rereleased a couple of months ago on cd for $10. $10! You
can maybe find an old cassette of theirs for that much.

Divine Regale has been around since at least the time I made up
my old prog-band list. The official web page I have is
    http://pubpages.unh.edu/~reyancik/index.htm
but that may be seriously out of date.

I hear Alice in Chains in the opening, Ozric Tentacles in
the soloing, indutrial in the "Keep your head up" part...
The GnR is probably from the fact that they actually used
'baby' in their lyrics. The closing chorus has a bit of
GnR's vocal harmonics to it, but I don't think it's prevalent
throughout the rest of the tune...

Well, I found out FII was coming out and had a DT resurgance and
bought it, and the more I listen to it, the more I like it. I have no
problems with Dominici's voice. In fact I like it. He reminds me of a
cross between Geddy Lee, Steve Perry and the singer from Stryper. All
stuff I like. Especially on "Only a Matter of Time." I LOVE that
track. I doubt they will re-record it, as that would eb a step
    backwards.....

I agree, I love the "Another-Hand" part at the beginning as well. I
haven't gotten my "When Dream and Today Unite" yet, so I can't
totally compare James to Charlie, but in "Fortune in Lies" and
"The Killing Hand" I think James sings with more feeling than Charlie
did, but that's just me. I do think Dominici was an excellent singer
in the studio, I've heard his weak points were live though. I'll see
soon. "Only a Matter of Time" is one of my fav. DT songs, and I'm
yeat to hear LaBrie sing it. Hopefully soon. Anyway, that's my 2
    cents.

Regarding the musical taste thread....my take on it is this. Last year,
I discovered Yes. I'd been a big Kansas and DT fan for a while, but I
was completely unaware of the whole progressive subgenre. I found Yes'
double-live album (Yessongs) and after I got used to it I played it
constantly. My roommates listened to a bunch of pop stuff--Bush,
Everclear (barf!!), Nine Inch Nails, Filter, shit like that. So whenever
they'd walk in the room and hear, say, "Close To The Edge," they'd be
like, "what the fuck IS that??" I tried so many times to explain to them
why Yes beats the hell out of Tupac....but it didn't work. Now what I do
is I tell everybody that the stuff I listen to is weird (well, they'll
think it's farkin' loony if all the ever listen to is Sheryl Crow) and
obscure, but it's really complicated and thoughtful. I also keep my CD
collection split into four sections: the King Crimson/DT/ELP/Phish prog
stuff, classical, jazz, and the few pop bands I feel have
merit--Metallica, Zeppelin, U2, Hendrix, Soundgarden, etc. And people
look at the prog section (considerably larger than the other three ;) )
and say, what the hell is this? Oh...that's a Jethro Tull album...it's
pretty cool, but there's only one track on the whole damn thing! If all
somebody ever listens to is three-chord nonsense, they can't comprehend
more complex music. (I'm trying not to sound snobbish, but I think I'm
failing miserably.) It's like with religion. You can argue all you like
about it, but talking about it doesn't change anybody's mind ever. Even
getting out something amazing like OFB's Metropolis or anything by the
Mahavishnu Orchestra (!--now there is some damn fast playing!) doesn't
change anybody's mind. In response, they'll just ask you to listen some
track off the new Spice Girls record. (*pardon me while I retch*) You
see what I mean? You have to just kinda play the good shit while they're
doing something else and then they realize how stoopid they've been =P.
One of my roomies this year is actually starting to like a couple of
Crimson tunes--even the psychotic ones, like "Fracture" and "Sex Sleep
Eat Drink Dream" (!). (This guy listens to Enya's "Memory of Trees" all
the fuckin' time....not really a bad album, believe it or not, if you on
once,ly have to listen to it once....he plays it at least once a day!!!
arrgh!) Anyway, you get the idea....

P.S. If DT does decide to play in St. Louis, you can bet yer left
you-know-what that I am gonna be there!! If they are and you wanna hang
    out/need a ride/whatever, e-mail me:
    w059@academic.truman.edu....especially if you're a jammer from
Mizzou...I'll be coming down I-70 to get home anyway, so I can give ya a
    ride into town. =)

    Message-ID: <199710120800.DAA22334@academ01.mty.itesm.mx>

I've found several reasons why I think that FII is a great album and how
you can appreciate it better :

1.- If I want to listen to heavy songs , I listen to The Mirror/Lie
2.- If I want to listen to prog at its best , I listen to ACOS
3.- If I want to listen to time sig changes , I listen to Take the Time
4.- If I want to listen to complex instrumental arrangements , I listen to
    Metropolis
5.- If I want to listen to anything else , I listen to Falling Into Infinity.

By this I mean to say that I don't need what's already been done in
previous DT albums to be done again , it's there and I can listen to it
whenever I want. FII gives us fresh music , an evolution in DT's style and
the opportunity to diversify our musical tastes. Hear FII without comparing
and accepting what's been done and you shall enjoy the music of DT!

I would also like to know everybody's opinion on Derek in FII
because ever since Kevin left DT there has been all this talk about Derek
and how will he fit in the band. Well the album is out and it hasn't been
discussed much and I would like to see some talk about it. Personally I
think that Derek is amazing on FII and I really like his style.
