There are tons... Pro CD Tools is by far the best... if you find it... hehe EasyCD and CorelCD are fair programs, but everyone uses them.

    No, they are CD RIPPED...

Currently only Pro CD Tools can copy index data, the rest of the programs are kinda shitty about that... and only Pro CD Tools can write subcoding to create glass masters.

I've made a few CDs so I thought I would help with this thread. First about MP3s. I don't have a lot of experience with MP3 but to make things simple just think of them as compressed WAV. If you need a MP3 encoder I suggest hitting the following Web page: http://www.algonet.se/~leasalm/winplaypage/howto.htm It explains the whole process very well plus gives you the location of the files you need to use. Very helpful.

Now about copying CDs. I use the software that came with my burner, Adaptec CD Creator. Part of its function is to sample CD tracks into WAV files. WAV files can then be used to create CD tracks. It does the whole thing digitally. Originally the machine I did this on didn't have a sound card. The software creates the time and stuff so you don't have to worry about that. There is one caveat with this software, and with all the other stuff I've seen (which isn't much), and that is that the software puts a two second pause between tracks. As far as I've seen there is no way around this. This might sound lke small shit but imagine trying to copy AMBI and having gaps between Erotomania and Voices. It'd suck. I talked to a guy at Adaptec's tech support about this and he says the new verision, EZ CD Creator, has overcome this. That should be available now. I talked to him about a month ago. There is a pretty good web page about sample CDs. The URL is:

http://www.magma.ca/~aa571/cdda32.html Give it a look. If there are any other questions feel free to email me directly.

I don't mean to sound uptight, but if you're referring to making digital copies of the actual songs off the CD, isn't that copyright infringement? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for promoting our beloved group <insert shameless plug for my e-mail campaign at http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/5039/radio.html >, but I'm not sure if this is the right way to do it. Perhaps, as Michael Pomerleau suggests, we should start another petition to EastWest and get them some well-deserved promotion. Any takers? Those of you who copy CD's(Bahr and others), could one of you put up a page(w/o any links leading to it) that would list the software and the hardware you use. I would like to know, and I'm guessing so do a lot of other people, too. --- Hmm, 30 or 75 jams a day? Could happen since the jammers who did most of the posting before left saying they would come back when the new album came out. Hmm, I'm guessing the first couple of jams are going to be just messages like "i'm back. hi!" Ugh! ;)

Death and sadness are not inextricably linked. Many people view death not as an end but as merely a transition to something better. From what I understand, JP's father was suffering...his death signified the end of his suffering. Isn't that something to be happy about? Just a thought.

Well, there is Thick as a Brick, which no doubt was performed a few times by Jethro Tull when it came out ... and one could make an argument for Tommy or even Quadrophenia by the Who.

APSoG can stand by itself though. I have no doubt that 10 years from now, it will sound as good as it does now.

Just for the sake of accuracy, "2112" does not take up the full album, but only one side. And it wasn't performed live in its entirety before October 19, 1996 (I was there. :)

I am a drummer and have been for 15 years and play in a lot of situations. I can read music but most of all I can count. If you can count this over you'll see you don't know what the hell you were talking about. All this talk about Met.Pt.1 being off on the timing or MP "made a mistake" is utter Bullshit!!!!!!!!!! IF THERE WAS A MISTAKE IN THE STUDIO THEY WOULD HAVE RECOREDED THE SONG OVER. IF THEY LEFT IT ON THERE IT WAS INTENDED TO BE HEARD THAT WAY. NO MISTAKES!!!!!!!! By the way,I have been in the studio before. So I do have real perspective on what goes on in there. They don't let obvious mistakes on the record.

Okay, I've seen enough Radio DJ bashing here. I know the COMMERCIAL radio DJ/Stations are doing radio backwards...it's all about money... but when you say "Radio DJ", you are lumping all the NON-Commercial people in with that. While all the time, NON-commercial radio and college radio are the places where you WILL hear the stuff that you WONT hear on COMMERCIAL radio. When I started in College radio, WDADU just came out, and I played it then, and always played DT. I even played ACOS when it came out. (yes the whole thing). So, yea, give your local college radio station a listen, find when thier metal show is on, and call them during that. Most college DJ's program their own shows, and they WILL most likely play it.

Well, since I create the custom bootlegs from scratch, often I'm feeding the DAT through the Mackie through the EQ finally into the computer, so it's kind of irrelevant. :) And when I clone boots, I just use Easy-CD Pro to copy them directly... ECD can also rip individual tracks off a CD... the catch is you must own a CD-R recorder for this to work.

Turtle Group has some good audio rippers and MP3 encoders on their web site, but they're shareware... you'll have to pay for the use of them, since the "warez" scene is really not what it used to be.

When ECD copies a CD, it writes its own TOC based on the information being passed through, so that if you were to delete a track from your hard drive and then write a disc without it, it would have the proper TOC. The only problem with cloning CDs right now is that all software (so this might be a hardware limitation) when cloning, puts the 3-second gap between tracks. When I'm writing from the hard drive, I can write in Disk-at-Once mode and eliminate all gaps, making live performance CDs sound proper. But for cloning, the gaps are here to stay. Unless a new version of ECD Pro or Corel CD creator comes out that corrects this.

I have finished my checking of the song. I found somewhere between 30-50 small errors (it was a bunch...but I didn't count how many), and 1-2 major errors. There are some parts I had a lot of trouble on (7-string parts, in particular -- you 7-stringers...I'm countin' on ya!). Also, a couple of chords were giving me fits.

It will take me a couple of days to punch the changes back into the computer and then the update to the web page. Sorry again for the delay. It seems I'm 3-5 days consistently late on all deadlines I make on this project. But with the hours I have put in on correcting the TAB, I still think that all checking can be wrapped up before Sept. 23. In fact, I won't dare say that this transcription will now be 100% accurate, but I hope that there will be few corrections from this point on. I have really analyzed most of this song (in particular, using the CDLooper program ( http://www.replayinc.com/ ).

Keep in mind that those of you wanting to get the Bucket O'Tab program, I will make the final version available for that program as well. The print is _so_ much better that ASCII. You can find them at http://www.his.com/~gse/bucket/

By the way, I get nothing by strongly recommending these programs to you. Of all the programs I have seen, these are the most handy and inexpensive around (IMOP).

Next time I post, hopefully it will be to announce the updated files on the web page. Keep your eyes open!

    By the way, nobody mentioned any problems with me putting your name on a credit file. Unless I hear from somebody, this will hopefully be available with the update (along with a file detailing the times of the songs I would really like some confirmation of). \\||// ~~..'~ ( \ ) Brandon Vaughn \ c/ __\/__ "The Mad Tabber" / \ < . _ \ bvaughn@snowhill.com \ `\ \ -' / \ \ ,,,_ vaughn_b@popmail.firn.edu >|""O[|||||nn[:::< /_,--- ._\ '''''~ ~ | | | | |

well, even though you'd be doing this only for promoting the band, and you'll do it at your own cost, you might still get into trouble doing that. In any case. id wait till the official radio play date (i believe somebody posted it...about 2 weeks b4 the 23rd) to see if the radio station gets it, before wasting your resources. Maybe I just have wishful thinking, but i was always under the impression, that the petition we did not only helped DT get in the studio, but made the label pay more attention to them (thus, promoting them). There's still 23 days to go..you never know.

    >DOES PERUVIAN SKIES BLOW YOUR SOCKS OFF OR WHAT?

    YES!

    >Thanks for listening...

    no prob

    >My car's tape deck has this button labeled "PROG." I pressed it today, and >Dream Theater started playing. Guess that answers *that* question.

    hehe. purty good:)

BTW, i was at Itchy's home page, and noticed that my name was linked to www.dreamtheater.com. Itchy...i'm confused....
