    Hi!

Just wondering... I saw Ernie's review and saw that the
song order was exactly like the one Mike posted. BUT the advance
tape has a slightly different order: NM, YNM, PS, HY, JLMB, AL,
    side B: BMS/HK/LITS, TAMP, TOT.

I think they sorted the songs this way to fit them best on the
tape. So far, so good, could be done just for the advance tape, but
there is a soft fade from the end of TAMP into Trial of Tears,
and you don't do that just for an advance tape. Could be the final
*MC* version, meaning that they didn't cut anything.

BTW, everyone who has copies of the live versions with the new songs,
please do yourself a favor and *DON'T* listen to them anymore. I
did and now I have *TERRIBLE* problems getting used to the final
versions. Especially LITS got totally rearranged and some parts are
cut, so now for me everything is in the wrong order. So forget the
old versions and listen to some other stuff while you are waiting for
    the new album. Seriously!

    Hello fellow Ytsejammers,

I just wanted to inform you of my band's recent studio release! We are
a St. Louis band called Broken Glass. We play several different styles
of hard rock, and on this album you will hear them all. I wanted to
tell you guys (and girls) because of our _progressive_ potential on a
few songs. Please check us out. I just got done putting up both wave
and Real Audio clips. Enjoy, and please let me know what you think!!!
    Thanks!

wondering if there were any other Australians who shared my love of Dream
Theater. They are one of the best bands I have ever heard.

Er...am I stupid or wasn't Queensryche the first band to play an entire album
(during the 1990 "Building Empires" tour they played all of "Operation
Mindcrime"). So that beats Savatage, Fates Warning *and* Marillion.
Just my two cents (Dutch cents, not dollarcents). :-)

    Hi all

more new CDs moved from my local CD dealer to my room at the weekend. No really new stuff, so I won't provide reviews - if you want any infos about them, drop me a line. I will, however, write a bit here about one of the bands, because I'm sure some of you people will like the very unusual music they make.

    First the new arrivals:

Alastis - ...And Death Smiled Samael - Ceremony Of Opposites Celestial Season - Solar Lovers Summoning - Lugburz Elend - Lecons De Tenebres

Anybody who likes music that is almost classical, yet at the same time dark, heavy and extremely beautiful should listen to Elend. Best described as dark wave/gothic/black, this unique band don't use any of the instruments you woud normally associate with this description - no guitars, no drums, no bass. Instead you will hear all manner of keyboards used very ochestrally, together with violins, male vocals and screams (real screams, not black metal grunts), and soprano solos (only one singer on this album, but two on the second). The lyrics are in English, French and Latin and are a sort of luciferian cycle based on Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost. This must be the most beautiful and soothing 'metal' music I've ever heard. Elend's CDs may be difficult to find Stateside, but try and get a listen - you will be doing yourself a big favour.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Fredrik Thorendal - Sol Niger Within

Your CD player scratched the CD? How? I'm serious here, if you get a diagnosis like that from whoever fixes that for you, please let me know. I've *never* heard of that happening, and I used to sell the things. :)

To tie this in with the virus hoaxes, this reminds me of a guy who swore his computer caught a virus that made his 3 1/2 floppy drive "stick its pins" into any disk, thus ruining it. Even insisted he'd mail examples to anyone to prove it. Took us quite a few posts to explain that a floppy disk drive doesn't *have* any such pins.

Unless he had one of them new-fangled dox-matrix disk drives. :)

For those among you who want to listen to something outside of more usual bands the likes of Fates, Queensryche and Rush, I'd like to recommend a band called Psyco Drama, who have recently released their second album, entitled "Bent" (maybe Derek would like it, too :-) ). Their first album, "The Illusion", was released on Leviathan, but this second one is out on Massacre. I am unfamiliar with "The Illusion", but "Bent" is a seriously excellent album, prog metal enriched with a killer groove. Good singer, too. Do yourself a favour and have a listen (but don't pick out the one weaker track, "Change") -- /--------------------------------------------------------------\ | Richard Karsmakers cronos@worldaccess.nl | \--------------------------------------------------------------/ C.R.I.M.E. Well, I have some CDs that are scratched and then my CD player skips some tracks (of course, I hate that).

So, I'd like to know from you guys: have you ever used those "CD repair kits" with success?? I know that there are at least two products (but maybe, much, much more) called "CD Saver" and "CDTek" that claim to remove every single scratch of your CDs and let them play smothly in your CD player.

    Is this truth???

Thank you very much for any reviews/experiences, Roger...

I don't know who did it first, but Queensryche has also done this in the past with their Operation: Mindcrime album. Not only that, but they released the boxset "Operation: Livecrime," which included a CD and Videotape of a concert off the Mindcrime tour (with the exact same tracklisting as the studio CD. Great concept. I'd like to see Savatage do it with their Dead Winter Dead album.

Howdy all, Does anybody have any good wavs or mp3s of 'burning my soul?'. I'm thinking about putting together a little demo CD for a couple of local radio stations. I downloaded one mp3 off of somebody's site but it sounds like it is a bootleg and the quality isn't the best. I'm hoping to throw BMS and YNM on a CD and distribute it a little. I called one station yesterday to request it and they had no idea what I was talking about. Appearently East West doesn't find it neccassary to send out many promos. So, I thought I'd do it for them. With the cost of blank CDs being as low as it is I figure it's worth it. I already have YNM off of Dr Mosh's site, but if anybody out there has any other higher quality wavs or mp3s that I could send out, let me know.

Well, now that we're on that subject, didn't The Who play the whole Tommy opera when they first released the album? What year was that... 1273 A.C.? :-) (probably like 1970, I'm just guessing...) Let's not forget Pink Floyd's The Wall either... but that was more recently... like 1979 A.D. ;-)

I think there are a lot of albums that, albeit not being concept albums per se, should be played as a whole... I was quite pleased when on Queensr=FFche= 's Road to the Promised Land tour they played the whole album... though not in the original sequence, and they had songs from other albums in between... but it was still pretty cool.

I'd really like to see DT play Images and Words from start to end someday... It probably won't happen, but I'm so used to listening to the whole CD - I have no idea how many times I did that already (I'm not a Shuffle button kinda guy)... so it's like I feel one song calling for the other... and Awake is starting to feel the same way ;-)

I like the album cover for FII. Change is good. Let's have confidence in the boys. They know what they're doing.

On the subject of playing entire concept albums...

Oh! I forgot Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon from 1973. I know they played the whole thing because I read on an interview that David Gilmour said that they were playing it on the Division Bell tour for the first time since 1973... Since I don't know exactly when Tommy came out, this might be the first one... but I think Tommy came out first.

    Hi!

I was just writing a short review of TAMP for the actual newsletter of the German fanclub, when I read your mail (YJ 2906) so I thought I should warn you.

TAMP is NOT emotional at all ;-) The live version many of you have heard is totally different to the final version! I did *not* like the live version, because it was very predictable and boring. And *I* thought it was still too happy for the sad lyrics.

Now when I heard the studio version, I had to laugh: How do you call this? Soul? Adult contemporary? Anyway, it's less dynamic, more laid back, and even more happy than the old version. I had to smile all the time I heard this one! I think I really like it. I just don't understand what it has to do with JP's father's death...

I don't know exactly how, and I'd imagine it would vary depending on what sort of mechanical gadgetry was inside the player, but it can happen. My copy of 'Awake' has a perfectly-circular, on-center scratch, right at the end of 'Caught it a Web'. My Sony boom box gets there and stops; my Fisher discman and Pontiac-stock in-dash player cruise through it, but play 'ca-au-au-au-ght i-in a-a-a w-e-e-e-eb, re-e-e-e-f-u-uused by-y the world'; and my Onkyo changer at home plays it just fine. But anyway, I would assume a circular scratch could only be made by a CD player, since I take good care of my discs (no frisbee games or gravel in the jewel cases :)

And x-105 in Minneapolis is doing an '80's weekend'. Which means I've gotta wait another whole day before I even have a _chance_ of hearing the new DT. Augh!
