I just wanted to post it so you could hear it from the horse's
mouth... I think Ryan Whitaker's "Seven Wonders" MP3-CD project is a
kick-ass idea, and I hope you all dig his final product. It doesn't bother
me in the slightest that he used my boot CDs to do it, because it's a
CD-ROM anyway and not everyone has a Pentium with a rockin' sound system.
:) In fact I'm rather complimented that someone would do a project like
that to begin with. So if you're achin for some tunes for your computer...
well, I think Ryan just came up with a possible solution.

Maybe it's just because I'm a drummer... I thought the differences were

Shame you didn't get any. Megadeth are one hell of a band, but one thing they're /not/ is death metal. :-)

I agree entirely. I saw them at Rock City, Nottingham, England on 8th July, the day after the album came out over here. Their show was absolutely amazing: very heavy, very tight and very energetic. The set list which you posted seemed very familiar, so it looks like they played a very similar set.

If you get the chance to go and see them live then don't miss it. They play so well now it's unbelievable, and they play a good selection of songs from their older albums.

That's not correct. You can save the information on the tape easily from analog than from Digital. If you loose some info on a DAT tape, you can't get them back. Because these infos are numbers. bye K

Can anyone explain in what context is the E7(b9) chord used? I only know it is taken from the fifth degree of the harmonic minor scale. And that Yngwie uses it a lot. What scales can be played over it?
Also, some theory books, when discussing the chords on all degrees of the harmonic minor scale, 'sugest' we play Dm6 instead of Dm and E7(b9) instead of E7. Why is that?
Thanks in advance.

>The >snare sounds on IaW and Awake were both perfect, so I'm hoping the snare >on the new album is along those lines.
That is quite possibly the first *positive* comment I have ever heard about the snare sound on I&W. To my ear, that mechanical snare sound irritates me more every time I hear it (and I&W is my favorite DT album). I also didn't like the "coffee-can" snare on ACOS when it first came out, but it kind of grew on me after a while. I guess I don't much care what the snare sounds like, as long as it's *live*.

Having not taken the time to scrutinize the part in question, I can't refer to it directly; frankly, I have better things to do with my time than micro-analyze musical compositions. You are correct to point out that we weren't there when ACOS was recorded; we didn't write it, we didn't play on it, and none of us had a privileged position inside MP's head in the studio. Therefore, we can say with conviction that there may be an odd syncopation at some point of the song, but to classify it as an "error" or an "imperfection" is beyond the scope and experience of anyone other than MP himself.

Well, out of the four questions you sopecifically mention, two are already answered in the FAQ, one (the new album) will probably be added shortly, and the other (easy listening prog) is only semi-relevant.
My suggestion is to read over the FAQ as it exists very carefully. If you still have some points you think are relevant to the list, I'd take them up with Chris Merlo directly. I think it would be better to try and keep all the pertinant information in one place, rather than splitting it over several lists in several locations. That way, if someone has a DT/ytsejam question, they will know *exactly* where to go to find the answer. :)

Hi, Assuming that that is the FII album cover... I really like it. I think it's healthy for bands to vary things occasionally. Surely it's not so important that the Majesty logo is missing from the front - I'm sure it will be there, somewhere. I think it looks good, and different - it will catch the eye, methinks. Bring on the flames - I always thought that the DT covers were a bit 80's anyway (that's not to say I don't like them - and I know that some of them were 80's - just IMHO). Cheers, Dave (a UK Jammer).

Hey all, If anyone is worried about FII, remember...if you're into the heavy stuff, melodic stuff, and fast shit that just plain rocks, you're gonna fookin' love this new album. Just from what I've heard, it rivals and maybe even beats out Cryptic Writings and Fire Garden as my favs of this past year (Sep '96 to Sep '97).

Hello guys!!
I´m a brazilian keyboardist DT fan greeting you all. For many years the lots of progressive/metal rock brazilian fans have wait for this moment. We´ve received a lot of "crashed" bands (Maiden, Helloween, Deep Purple), all great, but all a poor cover of themselves. Finnally, thanks God, we´re looking forward to welcome a big (biggest!!) band in its golden years.
Guys, it could be funny, but we were waiting till know, but know we´re gonna see the new songs, alive next week(11 and 12 September), before the whole world!!!! And we´re very proud of it.
About this discussion about the new song´s style, I think it´s all bullshit. What can we say before have listed the entire album? If it´s a crap, DT will not lose my fellings about all they´ve done before. Sinceraly, I cannot believe the album won´t be great.
About the other albums I realized that most of the people here prefer the I&W. I don´t know. I&W was great, magic, wonderful. But there´s a clear music evolution in the Awake album. It could be heavier (I loved it), darker, and more harder to listen in the beggining, but after some listenings it becomes perfect!!
The music evolution seems clear to me. List the First album now and compare. It is great, but it´s some steps behind. The evolution has been clear in the three first albums and that´s why I believe "Falling into Infinity" would be great. I can be wrong, but I hope so. Well, fortunately I will listen the songs a litlle bit before you guys. I promisse I´ll give my impressions about them after the show next week. I hope it will be fantastic!!!!
That´s all, Ytse Jam´s folks. Read you soon.

I've got to disagree with Steve Z when he says that Mike's drumming is off. He's only playing a triplet pattern over the quarters which makes it sound like he's off. He does the same thing on PMU when they play it live. He's just playing with your heads, which he's famous for in the drumnming community. I'll admit that the pattern sounds screwy as hell, but so far as I can tell it's correct. Alright!
This is great. I come home tonight and learn of a web page with ne DT for download. Too bad it's Real Audio. The songs sound like they're coming out of an old transistor radio with a pillow over it! Not the best setting for a virgin listen, but I had no willpower so I couldn't help it.
The songs:
Burning My Soul-
I finally got a closer listen to this one. A bit of an Industrial tinge to this one. James' voice sounds flanged or heavily chorused- gives him a more modern sound. It takes a lot of getting used to if you been getting a FIX for eight or nine months now :). It's cool though. Really groovin' and tight. The chorus sounds cool (It annoyed me on the bootlegs). Derek rips it up on his solo. (Wow a keys solo on a radio single! Then again, a guitar solo would surprise me these days!) I think people could really catch on to this one.
You Not Me-
I'm not going to say much about this one because every Jammer and their mother already has. I'll just say this: It's pretty damn good. Yeah, the chorus may be a little too slick, but the rest of the song is FUNKY!
Peruvian Skies-
Great. The song's form has not changed at all from the old version, but the instrumentation has a lot. It's more trippy. It's better now but I wish KJLB put as much soul into the verses as he did at some of the Fix shows. Maybe I'm just not getting the full effect through Real Audio. Some of the overdubs really suprised me- they fit really well. A really moody tune. The aggressive part at the end is a lot tighter on the album... almost too tight. And Mr. Sherinian's solo is AUDIBLE. I've been a huge Derek supporter since day one, and I'm sure all you guys will love his contributions to the band.
All in all: I think this album will blow all of us away.
-Jon Dery (First day of classes tomorrow and I'm up late at night listening to PROG!)
