    Hi,

I don't know if this is already mentioned, but anyway.

I just checked the CD shop and on the board with upcoming releases
DT's FII was expected on sept. 16th. Less than 2 weeks to go..

(as in the Netherlands we don't have radiostations playing the
    new DT songs....)

SORRY for shouting(!) in the "Subject" but I am hoping everyone will read this. Ive just phoned up East/West (Im in the UK) to ask them what the release date for FII is in the UK. Well the woman (In the press section) knew NOTHING about the release, she checked her release date info which was the schedule for the forseeable future and DT was NOT on it. She suggested that the 23rd was the US release only and I should IMPORT it!!!!!!! Is it any wonder DT don't sell millions of records when East/West seem to consist of a bunch of bubbleheaded idiots where the "Left arm" doesnt know what the "Right arm" is doing.

PLEASE READ THIS ALL U.S. DT FANS:- Can someone in the US either get in contact with the band or their management and explain about the situation in the UK and try and get someone's ass kicked into getting this thing released. The UK is one of the biggest markets for music in the world, actually releasing the CD over here might help the profile of the band!

I WILL import it from the US if necessary but how are any new fans going to be won and less devoted fans than me be kept if the record company doesnt seem to give a shit!

    I AM MIGHTILY P****D OFF :(

Come on East/West - get it together, you don't deserve DT.

Well, in fact, I prefer Images & Words a lot. Much, much more than Awake (maybe it's because Awake is way too heavy, way too technical (this is what I hear -- since I don't know anything about music other than to press the play button of my CD player...)). But I happen to enjoy I&W, Awake and ACoS, but I don't care that much for WDaDU.

Well, I always thought this, but thought that nobody were interested in discussing this... ;-) I have the *same* impressions that you have.

I, too, called WYSP around noon on Wednesday. They where doing their little one-hour request show. Of course, we all know most request shows are scams: the producer says he'll TRY to get it on for you no matter how obscure the song, and, of course, you never hear it. Well, since it was 12 in the afternoon and they must not've been getting many calls, this guy had time to "chat". So, I call up and request 'Burning My Soul' by Dream Theater and this guy goes out of his mind! He goes, "Oh, my God, I've NEVER had a request for them!" (it broke my heart) And he's asking me all these questions, ya know, asking when it comes out and I explained the single release and the album release later in the month. And he's asking me if I'm a big fan and how many albums do they have out, have you seen them play, what band do they resemble (I said Queensryhce, Rush, Metallica), etc. Well, he seemed really interested like he'd heard they where good but never had the chance to hear them. So he says he'll talk to his program manager, thanks me and hangs up...quite interesting. Anyway, e-mail them at WYSP94@aol.com and request it! I did a few days ago, but still no reply. >:-(

    > Satu Reunanen wrote : >> I'll keep DT's music in my heart till the day I die. Mark (?) wrote: > Or until they "sell out" :-)

Well, it would be awful, but I have to admit I like some sell-out bands..and I happen to like some things that Desmond Child has done too. I'm into more music styles than just progressive.

I'm wondering where Ville Rassi lives in Finland, since I know a few radioprograms that play metal and progressive here. Ever heard of Metalliliitto ? Or know the dj in Radio City called Jone ? I haven't listened to the radio in a while now, but I think these shows are still around there. So all you Finns out there, check these out !

Bought Fish's Sunsets on empire, Paradise Lost's One second, Blackmore's Night, G3, etc. I really like these cd's, check 'em out ! Raivo, can you tell a good place in Tallinn to go spend an evening ? Last Saturday I saw a bunch of metalheads going somewhere there, but had no clue where they were going. I went to Guitar safari, but I think that place doesn't live up to it's name. Where do you usually go ?

Now back to my freakin' flu..Satu

Had my first exposure to Tori Amos the other day (except for about 3 minutes worth when she was on MTV UP. Picked up the "Caught in a lite Sneeze" single for $1.91, which also features 4 "silly" songs. Very listenable stuff. Great voice, pretty much what I was expecting.

Also got an Yngwie Malmsteen Compilation album for 4 bucks, and was fairly impressed. Most of the songs (i.e. the ones with vocals) I can't listen to, but the instrumental stuff is pretty impressive. He doesn't wank nearly as much as I expected. I was expecting Michael Angelo/Satch flying era stuff, but he has some pretty melodic stuff in there.

My mom went to a progressive dinner the other night, but she says there wasn't any music. Go figure.

Yeah, I've noticed it too. It seems very strange..... Like, they're fucking crazy.... you can't expect such a thing from bands like greenday and stuff.... but then again, we're talking about DT.....

ok, so i get to detroit, first thing that happens is some beer-drinking fool tries to kill me by running thru a red light at 40 miles per hour.....and the cop, who was two blocks away and talking to some lady insists that that idiot had the green....good thing my dad's reflexes are getting a little slower, otherwise that asswipe's truck would have hit my (passenger side) door instead of the front bumper.....

then, I get all settled in, guess what i forgot? any kind of real stereo player....but i got my walkman, so that's cool, it's just that anyone waiting on something from me will have to wait a bit (all two of you)

here's the kicker.....get a call from my bro, and it seems a package has arrived at my humble former homestead.....contents: 2 discs; artists: Superior and Angra.....man, I wasn't planning on going home to see the 'rents so damn soon (only live an hour away, so hell, i could walk that distance if i had to).....but with that kind of inducement awaiting me.....

oh, and kicker part two....open up my new school's newspaper (Wayne State's "the south end") and i'm reading and i'm thinking the writing is sorta sloppy (esp. compared to the one i worked at at the u of Michigan, which won the most indiv. awards gold circle awards from the CPSA, which makes it, in the mind of this totally biased ex-wannabe non-journalist, the best college paper in the country, thank you)

but then i turn to page seven, and they got a review of A PLEASANT SHADE OF GRAY! ok, so it's 5 months late, and it spends 2/3rds of the review ripping on fates' past efforts, but it does pull itself out of the flame pit by ultimately praising this album, albeit somewhat lefthandedly ("an interesting trip down 80s metal amnesia lane" or something like that).....the biggest thing is that fates got reviewed at all? I think i might go in and check this outfit out, after all....maybe i can get a DT review in there before 5 months go by.......of course, right next to the fates review, there a review of oasis' new album , which ends with "despite the obviously derivative sound, it is still one of the more original releases in the crowded and homogeneous "alternative" music field".....whcih bascially sums up how sad alternative is, if Oasis is the be all and end all of creativity in that field.....

as david spade might have said on SNL...."i liked Oasis the first time around...when they were call THE BEATLES"

    DTC!DTC!DTC!DTC......

oh and a coupla more thoughts on listening to FII....... y'know, the greatest thing about DT is the way that every time you listen, something new strikes you, and that "discovery" period goes on and on for a long time......still hearing new twists in metropolis :)

anna lee, that song i was panning so badly last week, sounds alright to me now, as if it were another Elton John song covered by DT.....it's still the worst song on the album, but i don't hate it anymore....

and Peruvian Skies, which might now be my second fave song on FII (after Lines in the Sand which still rules the roost), after getting comments from a coupla jammers, now resembles Pink Floyd, circa 70's during it's slow portions 50% of the time.....the other half I still hear Metallica "Load" influence......maybe it's because "load" has some Floydian moments on it?

anyone ever hear anything like that on load? in the song "bleeding me", particularly, because that's what I compare "peruvian Skies" to, in particular.....

now that you're totally bored out of your wits....... if anyone is reading this, it's proof that a non-subscriber can post to the jam......and you can all go whine to skadz about how only subbers should be allowed to post.....but be warned, I'll be back among you soon enough...... :)

if anyone cares to reply to me.....look at the top of this msg, because I ain't quite sure what my address is....and I'd like to find out for sure that i can send and receive msgs here....

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood in '85. Check out their live double album "The Thieving Magpie" disc 2 (released in '88) for proof :-)

So, that would make you stupid ;-) (just kidding, Richard)

I'm sure lots of other bands have done the same, way before '85, though.
