    Uh oh....
I just saw my post to the jam about ytsefaq and it was kinda f?*>][[{ed...

    >what is this in engvish? Whalbums?
    >My gf doesn't like prog, I am making her a compilation tape of
    >"easy listening prog", what should I include?

It should have been like this

..engvish? What other albums have the members of DT played?
The DTfaq by D-man covers these questions well but there are other questions
like: What is the best Fates Warning album? Would I like Marillion? etc.

These wouldn't fit very well in Dream Theater FAQ, so I thought I should start
    YTSEJAM mailing list FAQ.......

The first version will be available by the end of the week (that means Friday)
    at http://www.hlti.fi/~opk/ytsefaq/

mail me if you agree (like I think Mike Bahr does :) or disagree or just want
tell me what questions I should include...

    so there...

I think Cryptic Writings is the best album of the year so far. It's not
as heavy or fast as, for instance, Rust In Peace, but the melodies,
musicianship and overall arrangements of the songs are second to none.

Hi, I've just spent all lunch-hour in HMV trying to sort out how to get hold of FII. According to HMV's suppliers... EASTWEST HAVE DROPPED DT. Now I don't know the circumstances - or even if this is true but the chap at HMV seemed to think that there would be no release in the UK. If this is true - it sucks vast amounts of elephant dick! All the UK Jammers will have to import and it could fuck up any plans of a UK tour. On the positive side he said that they have had a lot of enquiries so HMV should be getting some imported. I must stress that this is only what I've been told by HMV - it's not official (I don't think). Sad, Dave (a UK Jammer).

Well guys I attended Meagdeth last evening..they were in *top* form. The venue was a small school auditorium type thing called "Sokol Hall". It was really excellent. Hardwood floors and a balcony.. no seats anywhere..

Some lousy band named "Tenderloin" opened; im not sure why the Misfits weren't opening last night; oh well :)

Mustaine and Friedman both hit everything exactly right, as usual. They played the extended ending to Symphony of Destruction, and I noticed that Mustaine uses his thumb on the fretboard for one of the ending licks in his solo. Anyone have tab for this or know the technique well enough to explain what he's doing to me ? At any rate, After convincing the 3 people that went with me that Megadeth was one of the best live shows they would ever see, (they had never seen them before live), I am now just *waiting* for Dream Theater to start touring and stop somewhere near enough to here that I can turn some folks on to my other favorite band :)

On that note, I havne't been proof-reading jams lately, so to speak :), is the album still coming out the 23rd of september, and are there any US tourdates yet ?

    Cheers, Matt

Hi again, I've just spoken to someone at EastWest. She didn't think that they had dropped DT but she did say that they had no release date for the UK. She said that it would probably be released but not in the near future. I pushed to try and find out who made this decision (considering the fan base in Europe - and UK being in Europe) but she was quite obvously not going to let me speak to anyone above her. She did say that she had had a number of enquiries but didn't know any more than me about it. UK Jammers will have to import. CAN SOMEONE CLOSE TO THE BAND/MANAGEMENT FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON!!!! Pissed, Dave (a UK Jammer).

I went to Hardradio last night to listen to the 3 new DT songs they have up there.

I can't wait to hear these songs on my stereo instead of crappy real audio. It is so annoying listening to a song and have it cut off every 10-15 seconds so it can catch up.

Is it just me or does the beginning part to Peruvian Skies sound like something on Metallica's black album?

    Dave:

Can't believe it. They must be crazy (to say the least). NOT IN THE NEAR FUTURE? Would the year 2019 be OK? What bunch of brainless suckers do we have here? Thing is, I'm afraid that the situation is pretty much the same in the rest of Europe too, since the mags don't say anything about a release date, in fact they don't even mention the prospect of a new DT release. I'm quite sure, that the real fans will get the CD as well and I'm pretty confident that DT will come on tour to Europe again. But what really sucks big time is that DT cannot afford simply to be non-present on such a big market like Europe is. There are really *lots* of DT-fans around, but not all of them will be ready to buy an import CD at a considerable higher price. I think this is especially ridiculous with all those crap music that nobody wants to buy being published *worldwide*! There's a real potential for DT to become a real big player, but it seems to me that East\West for some strange reason has no interrest in that!

This can't be reality. I hope this is only some weird nightmare and it'll be time to wake up soon...

Bill Bellamy: And here's our next video comin' at ya 'all. Oops, hey baby, I'll be right with you in a second. 'S from a new group CCR yo. Check it out.

Now, I don't want to get on a rant here, but

***WARNING! WARNING! HUGE LONG RANT!!! ECKIE'S LETTING IT LOOSE!!!***

Is it just me, or is MTV making even more shitty sitcom/comedy programs that nobody's goin' to be watching? I don't know why I flip on that channel...maybe it's some sort of deep-rooted hope that I'll turn it on and they'll actually be playing music. You know, the stuff people with half a brain cell thought they'd be playing on that channel.

It's the age of the Nixons, Bush (aka Nirvana 2), The Verve Pipe, and the Spice Girls. I'm all for seein' some babe with big jugs dancing around in tight pants on the TV screen now and again, but a music station is not where it fucking should be. I'm sick of all this shit that the big businesses are force feeding the public, and unfortunately, nobody's listening to me or you, the fucking buyers. When requesting Dream Theater from a local rock station we get replies like, "Why don't you and all you 100 or so DT freaks sit around and jack off," or more recently, "We have the new disc, but if you want us to play it, call Atco." Not only is that insulting, degrading, and cold hearted, it's the way these fuckers want to "play the game."

There's an obvious battle going on here in the States between the increasingly oblivious and ignorant pop culture and the preservation of the arts and all that is beautiful and creative. I went to a public elementary school in California that didn't have an art program or a music program. I graduated to a junior high school that didn't have an art program, and a half-baked music program. Yes, I was a 15 year old with the attention span of a gnat. So were about 2000 other 15 year olds. Unfortunately the only celebrity artist I've seen stand up and criticize this incredible problem in recent years (on a major media broadcast) was Richard Dreyfus back a couple years on one of these fluff-ridden music awards programs. Funny how I haven't seen him appear on any more awards shows since. TV programs just keep dropping thier intelligence levels lower and lower and lower figuring that if they hit rock bottom intelligence, they'll appeal to the largest crowd of viewers. Nowadays when I turn on the great television, my intelligence is insulted by the barrage of commercial after commercial, and the lack of creativity in programs. Suffice it to say, I don't watch too much tv anymore. How many blowjobs did it take Jenny McCarthey to get her show?

This whole music industry still confuses me. In most businesses, if something sells well, you want to peddle more of it out into your market. It's a simple matter of supply and demand. According to the modern rock Billboard charts, Megadeth crashed in around number 6, yet Matchbox whatever the fuck their name is, being on the list longer than Deth's Cryptic Writings, is dwindelling at number 10, and which video do you see being played more? Which album is getting more airplay? The fans are shouting out thier voices at concerts demanding more of Megadeth, Dream Theater, and Savatage (I'm not mentioning Metallica, and for good reason) and Elektra, Capitol, EMI, they don't hear our shouts, because they continue to beat the "alternative" horse beyond death and shove it down our throats because that's what they've deemed popular.

The only fucking message I see our future generations recieving is, "Go ahead daughter, and get those implants. No no no, put down that instrument and let's go shopping! Why are you painting, son? That'll going to ruin your skin! Come down here and let's watch some commercials on the television! Go to college, smoke pot, and when you get a job, just remember to kiss ass and say 'yes sir' and 'yes ma'am' all the time. You'll be hired before anybody else if you kiss ass. And tell them that you're 1/8th black, that helps you too. YOU'LL NEVER EVER HAVE TO THINK FOR YOURSELF."

The human race is capable of so many great things, but we're surrounded by so many worshippers of the dollar sign that nothing will ever get done. And those that do try something with some integrity are dubbed "brave" and "idiotic," or figured as a fool searching for an unattainable goal. Sorry for the long rant, but this whole struggle between the artist and big business has been buggin' me for a while now. And I'm fuckin' pissed off about all the stupid things goin' on in this world. I know I shouldn't dwindel on these kind of things, but so much of it could EASILY be changed if people opened up thier minds!

Don't be so cynical. Life is much more easier for the record companies nowadays. All the music is created by some eccentric loonies using just a computer and maybe some synthesizers. The artists are artificial creations that can be easily replaced. All songs sound pretty similar, so nowbody has to have patience in order to become acquainted with a song. Good thing too, since nobody seems to have a real attention span anymore. Ya know those kids nowadays. All that the record companies (and the radio/TV stations as well) have to bother about is how to spend the tons of money they earn. So, why should they care about some strange, long-haired guys who scream like hell and who use (you won't believe that part) *real instruments* to play their music? It must be so irritating working with those people (the so-called musicians) who exactly know how their stuff should sound like and whose actual purpose of life is making music instead of big bucks in the first place. They even play so-called live shows which need lots of work to be organized properly and which are eating up quite some bucks just in order to satisfy one or two dozens of naive (most often also long-haired) maroons, the so called fans. So, burn your DT-CDs, go to your local record store and get yourself your share of the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, M. Jackson or whatsoever. Life's gonna be much easier for you...
