Don't get this album from them. Get the album from someone else
that charges you less. It is definitely not worth the 60 bucks (I think
that we are talking about the Kobra Records release, right?). It has a
very high hiss, very noticeable on the first song (the Elton John cover).

Summarizing: great material, poor recording/sound quality. It is
worth up to 40, but nothing more than this. Get it from Mike Bahr.

Well, I think that most of the songs have not that good melodies, but overall, it is a good album. Much better, with much better melodies is Opeth's (aha! I found out about this band, thanks to Ernesto Schnack!) "Morningrise". Simply incredible. But I don't know if it was released this year.

But Cryptic Writings has one of the best songs that I have ever heard "She Wolf" (the chorus part is soo catchy that it gets playing in my head without any effort). Of course, that "A Fortune in Lies" intro helps the song to have its great effect. :-) And I have not even touched the subject of "Motorbreath". :-)

No, no. I'm serious. I have never heard of them. Don't know what style of music they do and such. But it wouldn't surprise me if Metallica were covering techno bands right now, after the Spawn soundtrack... I have not heard it yet, but I bought the Die Krupps CD and I must say that "For Whom the Bell Tolls" never sounded so weird.

Highlights of the Ytsejam Fantasy Football League, Week 1.

SCHEDULE WEEK 1 WEEK 2 Liquid Shadows 50, Lines In The Sod 35 Liquid Shadows vs. Northeast Storm Predators 98, Ultraviolence 55 Predators vs. Hampshire Hounds Hounds 50, Birds of Prey 23 Blazars vs. People Eaters Northeast Storm 69, People Eaters 59 Ultraviolence vs. Birds of Prey Blazars 72, Musicsnobs 54 Musicsnobs vs. Lines In The Sod

The Glen Burnie Liquid Shadows had a strong showing from Packers QB Brett Farve (12pts) and the Dolphins D(15 pts) to defeat the Alabama Lines in the Sod, led by a 17 point effort by Jacksonville WR Jimmy Smits. The Patsville Predators won their game with the dominating running game of Terry "Thunder" Allen, and Eddie "Lightning" George (37 pts combined), and a superb aerial attick by Drew Bledsoe (22 pts) to shatter the London Ultraviolence, who had strong showings by Ricky "Running" Watters (12 pts), and Vinny "I look good in Purple" Testaverde (12 pts). The Hampshire Hounds improved to 1-0, mainly due to the tough showing of Jeff "Blackie" George (17 pts), and the ever strong Cowboy D (11 pts). The Mill City Birds of Prey had an anemic attack, but had a good showing from Scott Mitchell (8 pts), and Larry Centers (6pts). Augie's Northeast Storm narrowly defeated the Purple People Eaters by 10 in the closest game of the week. The Storm had the largest offensive showing by a single RB in Lawrence "The Convict" Phillips (24 pts), and a 2TD effort by Herman "Where's Perriman" Moore (17 pts). The Eaters used a balanced 4 pronged attack by Terrell Davis (11 pts), Michael "Hee-Hee" Jackson (13 pts), Adam "I'm from South Dakota" Vinatieri (11 pts), and the Broncos D (12 pts). In the final game, the Boston University Blazars, withstood a Monday Night onslaught by the Cape St. Claire Musicsnobs to win their first. Led by the Minnesota Vikings offensive combinations of Brad "The Backup" Johnson (10 pts), Robert "The Bow-legged" Smith (14 pts), and Chris "The Rev'rend" Carter (18 pts), the Blazars held on after the Packers D only scored 12 pts on Monday night against the surprising Bears offense. Also contributing was the most productive WR Tim "All I can do is catch touchdowns" Brown (25 pts).

    Standings

West East B. U. Blazars 1-0 Patville Predators 1-0 Hampshire Hounds 1-0 Augie's Northeast Storm 1-0 Cape St. Claire Musicsnobs 0-1 Glen Burnie Liquid Shadows 1-0 Alabama Lines in the Sod 0-1 Purple People Eaters 0-1 Mill City Birds of Prey 0-1 London Ultraviolence 0-1

Next week brings several good matchups. Two undefeated teams face off as the Predators face the Hounds in a cross conference matchup. Can the Purple People Eaters eat up the Viking attack of the Blazars? In a division matchup, the Liquid Shadows face off against the Northeast storm in another battle of undefeateds. After this week there may be only 2 winless teams, as the Ultraviolence face off against the Birds of Prey, and the Musicsnobs face the Lines in the Sod.

    See you next week.

I agree with Eckie. It is overwhelming with certain types of music being crammed down our throats. We should all call the radio staions and tell them that we are the listeners and we want to hear DT. As pessimistic as it may sound, though, I don't know if it will ever work. I don't know about any of you, but I am just going to listen to what I want to and let others do the same. If they want to buy into what's popular just for that reason, it's their life, I guess. It's unfortunate, too, because I know that there are those out there who would like DT a lot if they didn't worry about the popularity of the music. But on the plus side, I am hearing of more and more DT fans. Back in 1993 when I first started listening to them, I didn't know any other fans.

    Hey jammanoids!

I don't know who started this, but I decided to give my $.02.

My fave is Surfing with the Alien, followed close in its heels by Flying in a Blue Dream, another incredible album. The Extremist is quite good too (probably the album where Joe sounds most like a band, not just a guitarist with some guys playing behind), and the double Time Machine is a must have too (the Live Album kicks serious ass!). Not of this Earth has a kinda weird sound, but I like it a lot. =) Dreaming #11 has only 4 songs, but it's cool. And his last self-titled one, well, I don't like that one pretty much... Hope Joe gets back to old rocking guitar in the new album. :)

yes, the state of the music industry (I hate calling it an industry, makes it sound like we are making cars or something) is in truly bad shape. The mighty dollar is king right now, and it will only get worse before it gets better. Eventually, I imagine there will be a big backlash against all this nonsense...it seems like everything occurs in waves. I think the underground music scene is going to keep getting bigger, with more and more talented bands, pressing and selling CDs over the internet, fans of these bands will discover all kinds of new music via word of mouth (mainly the net) and support will surely grow. As soon as it gets big enough (i.e., making enough dollars) some big cheese at Trendy Records, Inc. will come up with some hip way to market the underground scene, thus bringing it above ground, saturate the market with it (eventually killing it). Then it'll start all over again. Let's face it, music like prog, prog/metal, etc. will never be mainstream...certain bands in this genre will get popular and hit the big time, but I don't think you'll ever get to be on the Spice Girls mailing list and hear people complain that MTV never plays any SP videos anymore, just a ton of 20 minute videos by these long haired, instrument wielding show offs <G>... I was surprised (and then again not so surprised) that the mainstream media didn't jump on the story about the Marillion tour fund. I mean, if a bunch of crazed fans can donate $45,000 to get a band over to the states for tour, just think of all the "other stuff" they can buy... I thought for sure there would be a little coverage of this story and maybe that would spark some interest in the actual tour... The shows were phenomenal (and it seems fairly well sold, ticket wise), even non-fans would be impressed (I think anyway)...

Anyway, Eckie, I agree with you completely and think I've ranted on a bit myself <G>... I guess we all have to start voting with our wallets... the next time a radio station says they won't play DT, just tell them fine, I won't listen to your station, patronize any of your advertisers and I am telling everyone I know to basically boycott your radio station until you come to your senses and start playing music that a large chunk of the population wants to hear. After they laugh at you (which they will do), just laugh back and say, sure my lone absense won't affect much, but after a few hundred or thousand people boycott you and your advertisers feel the pinch, guess who'll be laughing then...
