    Hi

"Calling All Stations" (the new album from Genesis) is really good.
It's against confirmity and that's the reason I like it so much.
Something between the old albums in the 70's and those in the 80's /90's.

Before Genesis, Ray Wilson was in band called Stilskin.
They had big hit with "Inside", a song made for a Levis commercial in 1995.

His voice is really good. I saw a report on a German chanel when he sang
the first part of "Supper's Ready". It was really great.

Btw, has someone allready heard Yngwie Malmsteen's new album "Facing The
    Animal" ?

Please tell me your opinion about it.

I would really be interested in hearing the viewpoint of someone who isn't
influenced by the color of the liner notes. Does the music still have
those connotations? Damon, I *am* thinking of the right guy, right?

Anyway, I do think the artwork "colors" the music, but while for it adds a
certain flavor, it is not so noticeable or salient that I like or dislike
the music because of it. I'm not trying to say it doesn't affect me, it
does, but I've never hated an album because I didn't like the cover. The
cover is a part of my reaction to an album, but it is such a small part
that it doesn't really bother me. Anyway, just my thoughts.

Ralph Macchio graduated from the same high school as my mom, the same high
school that Billy Joel also graduated from... You'd think that my mother
would be cool graduating from the same high school as a couple of
    celebrities...what the fuck happened?? : )

As for Stevie, He definately rocks the house hard! He is the man! He
ranks up there with George Thouroghgood! Not! SRV was the man, it's too
bad that he had to be taken so tragically.

I know there are some people on here who think that bootlegs are the work of
devil but i personlly think they serve some purpose to a segment of the
population.. like me for instance. And so I am a bit bemused and dismayed
that the DT boot discography is something like two years out of date the
last time I looked for it. I think that its an information source like
anything else, useful for some people. This list prides itself on being
educated about things.. and educating others so I would like to see somebody
like Rogerio, who takes an active interests in bootlegs take ahold of the
reins of the boot discography and give it a revamping.. maybe save a few
people the trouble of having to continuously post to the jam in an attempt
to find out whether they should buy a certain bootleg that's shown up at a
    local store or not.

.about what eckie said, amen brother Eckie!! Sometimes I just cant believe
how people can be so blind..

CCR, is credance clearwater revival.. a country rock band that played such
classic rock favorites as "born on the bayou" and "run to <through?> the
jungle". They ARE NOT METAL, they're not even hardly an electric band. I
believe they even once played on a TV show with a washboard, a jug and
something like a one string bass made of a pail and a piece of wood. I think
this was a joke but it gives you some idea of the nature of the band. That
metallica would cover a CCR tune is hilariously funny to me.. I personally
think a metallica rendition of "heard it through the grapevine" would be
    amusing to say the least.

The football thing... umm.. that's a weekly update from Jeremy that'll we'll
be seeing? In which case I would be happy to volunteer a portion of my web
space and meager design talents to host the updates instead of having them
posted to the jam. So if somebody from the YFFL would be willing to prepare
the updates, stats, highlight reel etc.. I will provide the space and some
suitable graphics.. look over my site and get back to me www.busprod.com/bforst/

got ANGRA's "holy land" the other day, help me.. I cant stop listening to
it!!! Hopefully it'll be DT to the rescue :)

First, before I get flammed for liking a "new wave" group, I wanted to
explain why I like 311. 311 is a band that has taken rap (a style of music
that really sucks) and made it cool. The band is very tight and the
background music isn't cheezy, it's cool. I have 3 of their albums, Music,
self titled and the new one Transistor.
I picked up Transistor this past week at Record Town (I didn't have to
pay $17 for the CD either!) Anyway, the album is very prog! This album
isn't "typical" 311. There is a lot of songs where there isn't any rap at
all, just mellow singing and funky guitar riffs, not to mention the drummer
    kicks!
So, I'm not saying rap is cool or anything, but what I am saying is that
rap is cool when done by 311, especially because the band is progressive.
Try it out, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Well, another very good example of the above subject is SG's Carved In Stone - The album sounds very soft and mystical, while the cover is also mystical and soft.

When I think about it, a main color of blue would fit better over there (instead of that red-orange)

I was browsing the web the other day, and finding so many links I never knew existed about prog music. I ran across a site that mentioned that their album of the year (1996) was Retropolis by Flower Kings. I went to their web site, and they have some pretty interesting music. They just released a 2-CD set (Stardust We Are) with lots of 8--25 minute songs on it. (Something I really wish DT would do one day--if they weren't going for a commercial success this time, FII should have been a double-album). You can find their web page at http://www.users.wineasy.se/flowerkings/

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had heard this group or have any CDs to comment about.

By the way, has anyone ordered CDs from Spock's Beard (Radiant Records) or Magna Carta? I placed an order with them what seems like ages ago, and I'm still waiting. I would appreciate any comments from anyone who has ordered with either of these.

The ACOS Project is still trucking along (need a couple of hours left to do some minor correcting, and then update the files on the web page).

As Eckie wrote, flames shot out of his nostrils (mercilessly scorching several record company executives) and thus formed:

    > There's an obvious battle going on here in the States between the > increasingly oblivious and ignorant pop culture and the preservation of > the arts and all that is beautiful and creative.

With the business machine fleecing both sides, I'm sure. It is unfortunate that it's gotten to the point where maintaining the intregity of and respect for the art form is not only secondary to the bottom line, but it also has become a goal to optimize the piss out of it.

And with that comes all the symbiotic lower life forms willing to do/say/perform anything to make a buck. I just refuse to buy into it, man! It's enough for me to know what really matters. Those who can, do. Those who can't, sell :)

I honestly do believe, though, that things are starting to make a turn for the better. The thing that baffles me is stuff like what I see on WAAF (one of the local Boston area radio stations) has on their current playlist: Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Tool, Helmet, Rage Against The Machine, Drain STH and Faith No More.

I'd expect to see Dream Theater right in there, wouldn't you? It's not like there's this hatred of the heavier sounds. Are they saving the best for last? :) Have UFOs actually landed and affected all forms of reason? What's the fucking problem? Talk to me, goose, talk to me!

    > Unfortunately the only celebrity artist I've seen stand up and criticize > this incredible problem in recent years (on a major media broadcast) was > Richard Dreyfus back a couple years on one of these fluff-ridden music > awards programs. Funny how I haven't seen him appear on any more awards

Maybe, in their infinite lack of wisdom, they (the infamous 'they') associated heavy metal with being the root cause of his cocaine addiction :)

    > It's a simple matter of supply and demand.

    [...]

    > because they continue to beat the "alternative" horse beyond death and > shove it down our throats because that's what they've deemed popular.

and apparently, it's what's more in demand these days.

    > I know I shouldn't dwindel on these kind of things, but so much > of it could EASILY be changed if people opened up thier minds!

It's something anyone who has respect for an art form (in this case) goes through, sooner or later. I think it's a matter of who one surrounds ONESELF with. We sometimes "hear of someone being referred to as a "cultured person."

I just happened to have turned on the set last night and caught "Leaving Las Vegas" for the first time. Cage's performance so totally blew me away compared to Moonstruck or, say, Raising Arizona (both of which he was great in). And Harry Connick, Jr.??? nuff said...

Does that make me cultered? Not quite. Does that make me a Yoghurt culture? Perhaps... but Harry Jr. is one great composer/musician, and Nick seems to be getting better and better all the time. Yeah, OK, Elizabeth Shue makes Sharon Stone look like Phyliss Diller, but I digress :)

My point was that there does seem to be excellence out there in the arts. Maybe not enough, but it does and will survive. Look at the fuckers now who want to do away with the federal funding for the NEA? Sociological change has and probably always will lag behind things like industrial, technological and economic change.

    /me belches :)

Oh well, think I'll go buy the new DT disc...

well It turns out that the MP3 of YNM was the whole version, unless the metal sampler is still the edit.

BMS is way too repetitive, but I like the new harmonies in the chorus.

PS is either a blatant rip-off of bleeding me or an amazing coincidence. You can sing the part on bleeding me while listening to PS and it fits perfectly (maybe even better).

What's up with the wah pedal? He's just using that thing more and more now. (not that it's a bad thing) maybe they'll have to start hiding it from him like they had to with Hammet.

I'm looking to have a CD of my old band pressed in quantity. Can anyone recommend any CD pressing facilities, that can run an order between 500-1000. I haven't decided if I want jewel cases and liners included, so at this point, it doesn't matter. I just need some contacts, and I'll get quotes accordingly. Note: this will not be CDr, I'm looking for a professional pressing, which looks like your typical silver CD.

Also, after I get the CD pressed, I'll be trying to market it here on the internet. I'll also be looking for independent distributors to sell them. I will probably be able to dish them off to distributors for about $4 a piece, but I'll have to figure that out after I calculate my costs. If you are a distributor, or know one, your help would be greatly appreciated. The band is called Child of Fire, and the music is metal in vein of 80's Iron Maiden, Queensryche, and Dokken - although we don't sound identical to any of these bands.

I'm looking for distributors to market primarily at record shows, overseas, and on the internet - although I will also be marketing our product on the internet.

Thanks in advance for any help, and I'll be posting again after I get the CD pressed, which will be several months away.

Shepherd is cool, but Lang is just a blues version of Hanson. He's nothing but a cheap imitator who gets publicity because of his age. He comes from around here, so I've been hearing about him and hearing his boring music for a couple years now.

What is the problem with Hanson? You could say they are a product of midia, commercial sound, etc. Hell on it!!! When I hear their songs I feel happy, they put me up. I don't even care for how they are classified by you, I like them and just it. Such as johnny Lang, a blues guy by definition. It has all the qualities to make his music sound bluesy, except the fact he isn't black for some guy here... :-D Can't you see quality or felling on other kind of music not progressive or progressive metal?
