Sony products in general tend to be a letdown... just ask the tons
of DVD enthusiasts that are stuck with the Sony unit forever, underpowered
though it is, simply because of the Macrovision disabling switch.

I think the final bit of ironic coincidence that will put this in
perspective may be: the CDR burner I used to have was a Sony 920s. :) It
failed discs fairly often, and took a dump on me in August, permanently.
The new Teac drive is not only faster but way more reliable.

    whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!! the new songs on
    http://www.scream.no/sound/sound.html
     just plainly rule!!

New millenium : very progressive, very WIERD tune...labrie sounds like
nothing ive ever heard from him before.. and whoa.. theres a part where
they groove..like..real 70's like.. (i like that) ..this is one of my
    faves....

hells kitchen: hmm love it even more than when it was the middle part
of burning my soul (althou i still feel as if they should release the
old version (fix one) on a single or something...) ...very very coool
melodic and crazy instrumental... the unison stuff at the end just
    rules...

TAMP: ..well...it needs to grow on me.. mixed feelings on the latin
    percussion..

Ok..*now* my feelings on the new TAMP.....i think theyve changed this song from being loaded with emotions.. real heavy..feeling-like.. to make it lighter.. i dont know why.. i still like the song.. but i think it has lost the personal and painifull feeling it had before.. its still a great song with great lyrics.. and hey.. the percussion is not half bad.. (maybe cuz im from PR ..jej)

    These comments are extremely aggravating:

    >< I think the lyrics went downhill with Awake ><

The only reaosn you say that is because Kevin Moore slacked off on the writing of Awake because he wanted to get the album over with and quit, yet his songs where still pretty good! Innocence Faded makes no sense to me but still seems written wonderfully as does the rest of the album.

And as for people saying that the new album is written commercially, etc., I got news for you...IT'S NOT OUT YET! It seems like some of you are basing your comments purely on what other people say instead of WAITING to see for yourselves. I see someone talk about a song that mentions Kurt Cobain, then this person goes off ASSUMING that it's a commercially-written song, or it's not "pure art", and so is the rest of the album, simply because of the mention of Kurt Cobain? Good God, that is ignorant!

Along the lines of "selling out", someone said this:

    >< I basically lost what little respect I had left for Dave Mustaine when I read the quotes that someone posted to this list last spring where he said something to the effect of "This album will have four radio friendly songs, four really heavy songs for the old fans, blah blah blah..." How can you sit down with a piece of music, that is supposed to be an expression of yourself, and say "Ok, now how can we make this more radio friendly?" ><

And do you know, for a fact, that he said this BEFORE any of the songs where written? Because anyone could make an album, then listen to it and say, "This song sounds radio friendly, this other one doesn't." You're implying that Megadeth made songs solely for the purpose of getting airplay.

Goddamn, you people are negative! Some people are already saying they don't like it or don't think it will be good based on one song or a few lyrics! The bottom line is, make your opinions after hearing the album, because you only look stupid criticising something that you've never or've seen or heard little of.

    >< They played TTT, which has similar themes to JLMB. Granted I only saw it once on Headbanger's Ball... ><

Take the Time is about the hard times the group of 4 went through between '89 and '94 while searching for a new vocalist. They almost had to start from scratch as it became so bad! Just Let Me Breathe is about the sad state of current music. I see no connection between the two.

I've just get the new VANDEN PLAS album call "The God Thing". According to me, it's the album of the year and maybe the album of the decade (or Millenium !!!). It Kills from "Fire Blossom" to "You Fly". Nearly 60 minutes of Pure Music. I'm sure that all of you will like this album (Specialy if you like DT !). To compare with "colour temple", "the god thing" is more mature. Now VANDEN PLAS've got their own style, it's definitively more Progressive and also Heavy. Just notice that for this time, You didn't have to get the Japanese Version but the french one. First, all the french version get a bonus track "combien de larmes" which is the french version of "How Many Tears" (Colour Temple), Second there is a "Special Limited Edition French Packtage" (That's it I get it !!!!) with a bonus CD containing 3 songs: Spanish Rain (Originaly on the german version of ACCULT!), an accoustic version of "Days Of Thunder" and "Raining In My Heart" (the first VANDEN PLAS Song 1985 !!!!). I can't wait listen to the new songs LIVE !!!!!

    See You

    Hi, It's didier again

A few days ago some of you (I don't remember if it was on DT or Savatage Mailing list so....) were talking about ELEND. So, ELEND is an french Atmospheric/Gothic Band without guitar, drum, Bass Only keyboards, Electric Violon, screams and female voices. There are 3 LPs, "Lecons de tenebres", "les tenebres du dehors", "Weeping Nights"(Rare tracks!!!). Now ELEND is on MUSIC FOR NATION so you'll get more easily the next CD. The first Label of ELEND was HOLY RECORD (NIGHTFALL, LEGENDA, ORPHANED LAND, TRISTITIA and so on) and you can get their back catalog to the address: HOLY RECORD - BP 59 - 77260 La Ferte Sous Jouarre France Tel: 01-60-22-36-22 FAX: 01-60-22-36-46 each CD cost 83 FF (well I don't know for USA but in France It's not so expensive, In general it's 140 FF....)

Hi, didier on line (for the Last time !!!!!!)

Now, I need your HELP ;=). I'm student but also metal addict ! For now, a couple of a week I get the opportunity to do an Intervention on a radio show in France, talking about bands, news, tour and INTERNET. This show is call COTON-TIGE, and it's about any kind of metal. We don't only go on famous bands but there is also an import part where the french (only PARIS) audience can listen to unknow or not much known bands and music such as "Heaven's Cry, kimuri, Anguish..... So, with INTERNET It's a good way to get some news.

So, here is my REQUEST: If you're belonging to a band, know, unknow, beginners, or not, If you're working for label, if you have news , demo, CD about a band AND if you want to have access to the french audience ,you can contact me by e-mail:

    mailto:goidin@broca.inserm.fr or mailto:coton-tige@mailexcite.com

    thanks a lot

    didier

OUUPPSS, I've just forget to talk about a french magazine (it's a free one you can get at FNAC Store in France) where there are a lot of Chronicles (EDGUY, CHATEAU DISASTER, THE EXPERIENCE, RESISTANCE, MINDFEED...... for the last issue) I'm in relation with this Mag 'cause a guy on radio (doing the import part) is writing in it. So it's another good way for band to be read or listen by a large audience in France. But to write chronicles or play music on radio, we have to know the existence of bands and the possibility to listen to their music.

Hoping this was not to long and to much confuse ;=))))))))) Thanks reading this - Take Care didier

    Hi.

Just got back from a Strapping Young Lad/Testament concert...I might post a review after I've had some sleep but I'm just curious from those who have seen SYL before....is he always in that bad of a mood where he constantly is berating the crowd or did he just hate everyone here. I say it was just show but a friend of mine kind of took it personally.

"HEY ALL YOU F**KING INBREED PIECES OF S**T DO SOMETHING!!!" "DON'T BUY OUR F**KING CDS, DON'T BUY OUR F**KING MERCHANDISE!!!" "F**K YOU!!!" -Devin Townsend, usually flipping the audience off.

    Just curious....cool show by the way....two weeks - NEVERMORE/FLOTSAM&JETSAM!!!

Anyway, if someone can point me in the direction to a few music clips and/or discography, I would greatly appreciate it.

If anyone else on here is a Journey fan besides myself, then please see if you picked this out.....

I think Kevin Shirley made a HUGE reference to Journey's recent (year old) released album Trial By Fire......

If you have this album, listen to the beginning of Track-2: One More.

"Wicked Prophets, Kill By Speaking His Name"

Totally same voice in the end of YNM! Is this Kevin Shirley himself?

Just a little interesting point I thought I would bring up. Anyone else alreadynotice this?

Does anyone on the list know what the difference between the holy land double cd and single cd is? I went round to my local virgin record store yesterday to order it and it appeared on the guy's computer screen as a double cd and a single cd with the double cd retailing at 19 pounds, and the single one at 14 pounds (needless to say I ordered the double cd). Also does anyone know where I can get any Enchant/Shadow Gallery cd's, virgin has the first Shadow Gallery listed but they say it has been deleted, they do not have carved in stone listed or anything at all by Enchant.

    Cheers Chris

When it comes to DT clones there are a lot worse offenders than Lemur Voice and Altura. For example, World of Silence. These guys want to be DT so bad it hurts. There is a big difference between "cloning" and "heavily influenced". IMHO, FYI.

    Hello jammers!

Well, it's very hard to say this about one of my alltime-favorite bands, but:

"Fallen Into Infinity" is an album with too much boring songs and only one or two of it, that sound A LITTLE BIT like Dream Theater!!

Since one week I have a promo copy from the record company and for me it's the disappointment of the year. "Anna Lee" is a good ballad, but nothing spectacular. "You Not Me" has a good catchy chorus. And the rest? Well...

So, I would be very happy if someone will send me his comments on the album and/or on my comments.

Please send me an e-mail, because I don't often read the "Jams"...

Bye, bye... I have to go home now to hear "When Dream & Day Unite" and "Images & Words" and I'm trying not to cry when I see my "Fallen Into Infinity"- CD...

    Hi all

already lots of talk about the lyrics of the new songs and the album isn't even out yet. For my part, it wouldn't matter if Mr. LaBrie sang the menu from a drive-in restaurant - I can't make out what he's singing 50% of the time. This, for me, is still one of the things that puts a lot of people off so-called prog bands. One of the guys I live with likes stuff like 'Bombay Vindaloo' and that crazy stuff in the middle of 'Metropolis', but he can't stand all that high-pitched wailing and screaming. Yet when I recently put Conception's Flow in the stereo when we were playing darts, his comment were along the lines of "hey, this is great, good songs, good music and a singer that doesn't cause your ears to bleed". I have to agree with him.

Be honest - how many of you people out there can say they understood all of the lyrics of Dream Theater's songs without having to read them from the CD liner? I even found it easier to understand Tool lyrics...

A little bit of sick English humour for all you Cobain bashers - Q: What do Bill Clinton and Curt Cobain have in common? A: They both have gore behind them.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Within Temptation - Enter

    Hi Michael:
