Hi!
Many of you will wonder what happened to TAMP. I like the new
version somehow, maybe it's because it sounds like a parody of a
song I didn't like before ;-)))

Just curious - do fan club subscriptions run out? Do we have
to send another $15 each year? Will we receive a notice when/if
our subsription is about to run out?

I got a chance to hear the promo for FII.. It kicks ass!! It doesn't sound anything like the .ra files after what I think. This record has a new sound to it. The keyboards and keyboard sounds are different. But I love it. Lines in the sand kicks ass totally!! :) I'm not disappointed. Don't think of this album as another I&W. Look at it as something new. That's what it is...

An interesting outburst! I saw them a few months back and Devin didn't seem pissed off at all. How was the audience reacting to the music? Even though most people at the show I went to hadn't really heard of SYL they were moshing away not long into the first song. Maybe Devin just gets annoyed when there's little reaction to the music.

Does anyone know if there are any Enchant fan clubs, the one that was listed in the inside of the Blueprint of the World cd no longer exists. Also are they any web pages of Enchant that are regularly updated.

I believe that is from an EP or demo tape by the same name that was made prior to their first full-length CD (Blueprint of the World). There are about 4-5 other songs on the tape I have (also from Mike Backof -- thanks Mike!). A couple of those songs ended up on "Blueprint of the World".

Does anyone else get those 35 music channels which come with the DSS dish? You get them for free if you subscribe to one of their big packages. The other day, I tuned to channel 513 (Metal channel) and they played in order:
Queensryche "Queen of the Ryche" Helloween "Mission Motherland" - TALK ABOUT OBSCURE!!! Fates Warning "Through Different Eyes"
Awesome channel - it comes through with CD-quality sound.

ok you did good! .. the double cd contains an extra track on the holy land disc...called "queen of the night" .. and it also brings the other disc which is 3 songs off an unplugged show they did.. they did 2 songs off angels cry (their first mayor disc) and a cover of a folk jazz song i believe.. i love this unplugged disk..it shows a whole other dimension on how talented this band is

Seeds of Rage is the first ELDRITCH album and it sounds less mature than HEADQUAKE, with this one they find their own style, It's more complexe. Finally I like very much the TWo so... But Isaw them twice live (Oppening ANGRA in PARIS and also at the GODS OF METAL FESTIVAL in MILANO) Fisrt time I was a little bit disappointed, but the second time was great. About TIME MACHINE, their album Act II: GALILEO is a killing bomb and you must absolutely get it, but their live performance is boring...
About STRATOVARIUS my favourite one is DREAMSPACE (the 3rd CD) but they've just released a BEST OF a few day ago in which there is a little bit of each album

Then you're not looking very hard. Why do you think DT had so much trouble btween '89 and '94? Because of the "current" sad state of music! Sure, grunge has all but died, but "bad" music <ie, anti-technique> is still #1. <IMHO, because kids today are too lazy to think about what it is to which they are listening, and they can't deal with any kind of music that won't let them say, "Oh, I can do that," but what do I know?>
And, to all those LaBrie bashers out there, keep in mind that James's voice is one of the prime factors that got them a major-label deal. James's voice is very radio friendly. DT couldn't get arrested before James.

FRESH NOIZE 1) DREAM THEATER Track: Burning My Soul (Track #5) Album: Falling Into Infinity (EastWest/Warner) Time: 5:28 (C) 2) DREAM THEATER Track: Peruvian Skies (Track #3) Album: Falling Into Infinity (EastWest/Warner) Time: 6:38 (C) 3) DREAM THEATER Track: Just Let Me Breathe (Track #9) Album: Falling Into Infinity (EastWest/Warner) Canadian Exclusive!!! BW&BK chats with DREAM THEATER's James LaBrie!!! Here is an excerpt from the Dream Theater cover story found in Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles #19, out mid-September!!!
LaBrie on Canada... "No offence, but home is really unfortunate. Canada is really unaware of Dream Theater. As hard as I've tried in the past to make it a different situation, it's been really difficult. Without getting into the political side of things, that is one of the reasons, I think, that stopped Dream Theater from being somewhat exploited up here. The way I look at it is we'll just keep plugging away and sooner or later, people will become enlightened to it. The 'Net is incredible. There's just so many Dream Theater pages that it's ridiculous." "There's not one day that goes by that I don't appreciate where I am and the potentials of where we can go. I don't take it for granted. I remember how hard I was working when I was down in Toronto and how many good musicians out there who never see this side of the business, and they never will. As much as people come up to us and go, 'Hey, man. You're so lucky.' I don't want to look at myself as lucky. I'm fortunate. I don't look at it as luck. Luck's not the proper word. You're fortunate. Obviously, talent has something to do with it, especially in a band like Dream Theater. Everyone has to pull their weight. We're always pushing each other further and harder. It's cool. We're all really appreciative of where we're going and the fact that we're worldwide and the fact that we're doing press all over the world."
LaBrie on Falling Into Infinity... "We want to tap into the Rush crowd," LaBrie states simply. "If Rush is still selling 2, 3 million per album worldwide. Let us tap into that. Instead of us selling a million albums worldwide per album. How about we sell 3 million worldwide? We want to tap into Rush's crowd. We want to tap into Pink Floyd's people. Those people are out there. They obviously really enjoy this kind of music. I think the fact that the album sounds more rounded and more laid back is the fact that when you're around people a lot longer and you continue writing, obviously you're going to evolve and everything's going to follow suit. Or at least, you hope you're going to evolve as songwriters. Once again, it's proven that we've really matured. Everything is more focused on the song and not on the individual superfluous being, which might have been more evident on Images at some times and Awake at some times."
LaBrie on his voice... "When I came up to do this album, I really wanted people to hear more of a character voice. I've always delved into lyrical content and try to immerse myself in it because I think that's the singer's job. You have to be able to convey what the lyrical and emotional content should be, whether you wrote the lyrics or not, even if the listener doesn't understand the language. So that the emotion just comes out in the voice. It's an instrument, that's how you have to approach it. With this album, I wanted to concentrate more on the cleanliness, but I wanted to give each song a personality. I wanted to give each song a life of its own, vocally. I think that pretty much sums up how I approached this album. I was consciously aware that I wanted to bring myself back to more of the Images approach to singing, but at the same time, grow as a vocalist and give it more character, more feeling, more emotion. There's some songs that you really notice that I got into my blues influence because I really love the blues. There are some sections when you could tell that I was just going for the blues and the guys were just digging it."

I'll keep it short - otherwise this will turn into a rant :)
Screw it:
<rant>
It all comes down to the fact that I'd buy a DT album if they went rap, or country. (Two least fav flavors).
It is not because they just 'rule', even though they do, nor is it because they are just Dream Theater.
It is because every time they have come out with something 'different' or away from their normal sound I've disliked it. I *HATED* awake. I liked 2 songs, and could not stand the rest. It is now my all time fav album.
Dream Theater has the unique quality (for me at least) of growing on me. Something I may have not liked at first, after a few dozen listens becomes endeared to me.
</rant>
Yet another voice in the crowd saying - wait a few weeks, and THEN post about if you hate it or not. Dream Theater is much like Marillion's Brave - listen to it alone in a dark room for full appriciation.

I went to Elektra to see all the wonderful promotional the new album and it appears to be nothing! They still have ACoS as the newest release!! I then went to the "WHAT'S HOT" section and lo and behold: NOTHING!
http://www.elektra.com/mailroom/mail.html
Here's what I e-mailed them:
"Dream Theater has a new album coming out real soon. I was VERY surprised to find that you have not mentioned it in the WHAT'S HOT section. This IS hot! If you are going to spend the time/money to produce it, at least give it SOME bit of pubilicity. I'm buying it anyways, but I'd imagine there are others out there who browse your site, are into metal/rock/progressive and who don't know about it. This should be a no-brainer..."
Guess we'll find out if Elektra is indeed a no-brainer...
