Now I may be a complete idiot or something but I can never seem to grasp
what the hell these people are thinking when they put up a website for a
promotion and then let it sit there and fall apart! I mean these are
companies with employees right? I think maintaining a web page would be a
very simple high exposure why of generating interest but instead like many
others in society they still think that the internet is "not important",
that its just some toy that people use to amuse themselves... which is true
too...
Maybe this list needs a press agent so we can get some exposure for some of
the "remarkable" things that we are trying to do. Any budding journalists
wanna submit a few stories to some music mags for us? I can see the
headlines now... "Online Fans Take Matters Into Their Own Hands: lameass
record execs caught sitting on their asses!!!"
Finally got my postcard in the mail today, Man... I love that cover!!!! At
last a DT cover with a simple compelling image.

Hey Pat, just letting you know that I have the limited edition CD.
I got it from a secret source who asked to remane unknown ;)
Anyway, it was never released commercially and so is hard to find.
If anyone cares to have a tape dub of it, because it is cool, e-mail
me and we'll work something out.

I was looking through a cd catalog and noticed not even the most prolific
rock artists can even get close to the sheer quantity of releases issued by
jazz artists. Is there really a market for this? Is jazz such a lucrative
market that a new album can sell each year?

>< Well, it's very hard to say this about one of my alltime-favorite bands,
but:
"Fallen Into Infinity" is an album with too much boring songs and only one or
two of it, that sound A LITTLE BIT like Dream Theater!! Since one week I have
a promo copy from the record company and for me it's the disappointment of
the year. "Anna Lee" is a good ballad, but nothing spectacular. "You Not Me"
has a good catchy chorus.
And the rest? Well...
So, I would be very happy if someone will send me his comments on the album
and/or on my comments.
Bye, bye...I have to go home now to hear "When Dream & Day Unite" and "Images
&
Words" and I'm trying not to cry when I see my "Fallen Into Infinity"-CD...
><
The fact that you referred to it TWICE as "FALLEN", yet you claim to have had
it for a week tells me that this is flat-out lie, a scam so-to-speak.

Okay, let's start with the Flower Kings (Swedish progressive rock band). A
couple of month I borrowed one of their CDs from a shop (they're shops in
Germany where you can hire a CD for a couple of bucks - great possibility
to test a new CD before you actually buy it). I put it on tape to listen to
it thouroughly, which I really did, and they sure are not bad at all, but
personally I didn't like them too much. I'm sure there will be lots of
Jammers who will totally disagree and just love their CDs, but I simply
couldn't get into them. So you see there are different point of views
concerning Flower Kings, so maybe you shouldn't just buy them without the
chance to have a listen to some tracks before. Except if you like King
Crimson. Then you might like the Flower Kings, too. Else you'd be possibly
better off buying another CD.
For example World of Silence, "Window of Heaven". I think they are from
Sweden, too. Like quite a couple of other bands in Europe they are heavily
influenced by Dream Theater, but unlike many of those they are IMO much
more than just another DT-"clone". Which means that World of Silence just
know how to write songs that are both on a high technical level AND very
emotional. I really like them.
Another obviously DT-influenced band is Athena, "Inside the moon" ( from
Italy). I think the singer really sucks, but the music is great. First I
could not stand the singer, but I really loved the instrumental parts, and
so I gave the CD another try (and another... and another...). And finally I
loved it, I even can stand the singer now. But it seems to be hard to find
any good singer in Italy (maybe except for Kikko Grosso from Asgard, and,
of course, TALE CUE's Laura Basla, as far as female singers are concerned)
- another cool italian prog band with a HORRIBLE singer is Black Jester. I
wouldn't recommend this one.
As for bands in the vein of Enchant, they are none (besides Enchant
themselves;-))... at least none that can be compared to their really unique
style. But concerning other bands you may like: Ever heard about Cairo,
Conception, Clepsydra, Soul Cages, High Wheel, Ivanhoe, Rocket Scientists...?
Hope this could help :-)

This is definitely the most obscure song on the album - maybe an attempt
to recapture the mood of the epic songs on both Keeper albums. Not the
best on the album and definitely not the best they done, but a good song
all the same.

The fact that you think they were looking for a new vocalist until 94 , yet you claim to be a REAL Dream Theater fan, tells me that this is a flat- out lie, even a scam, if you will.
He ALSO said:

You're attcking my post, which my ego now forces me to defend. It is my humble opinion that you should read posts before responding to them. I made it clear that I assume nothing about the new album, and really, my post wasn't about the new album. This one line that I heard was on the album got me thinking about lyrics in general, and I thought I would share my thoughts in the hope that I would generate some interesting discussion. I should have known when I wrote it that some idiot would start whining the instant I said anything remotely negative about the band. But don't worry, I'll shut up now and return you to your regularly scheduled DT worship. -Clark

What a nice guy... *First* he drops a bomb... *Then* he tells us he won't even be around to read the crap it'll cause on the Ytsejam...
Oh well... Let the bitching begin (or is it continue ?). _____
So.. What's *my* opinion of the new material, you ask ? Well, I am sorry to disappoint you, but I don't have one yet... You see, I've only heard a few MP3's and RA's so far. Their quality was not good enough for me to judge Kevin Shirley's work as a producer. I don't have the lyrics, so I can't say if they 'suck' or 'rule'. I am not disappointed nor am I happy, because I simply have not heard those songs enough... You know, usually you have to give music *time* to grow on you. And that's just what I'm gonna do, once I get my copy of Falling Into Infinity... on CD.
Hey, maybe some of you should try that too, for a change :-)
I mean, you don't wanna look like an idiot when you get the CD and realize that you *love* it, now do you ? That's what I thought ;-)

guy 1: get lemur voice!
guy 2: Yes,that is a good cd...but is a great clone of Dreamtheater.....I don't like clones....
me: wtf? Lemur voice a DT clone? i know a clone when i see one, and in fact am sitting at a Mac clone right now, and lemur voice is not a clone of DT.......sure, they're built on that melodic metal meets mofo prog platform, but that does not a clone make.......
instead, Lemur Voice is an exciting band from Holland with songs that'll make your head spin (Akasha chronicles), almost make you cry (celestial haze) and totally make you reach for the liner notes, because you can't understand what the guy is singing but don't let that deter you because the music is so freaking cool.........
and that's all i have to say about that
now, onto Dream Theater and Kurt Cobain and Just Let Me Breathe (don't know if it's been addressed already, still have 5-6 jams to go) yeah, DT name checks Cobain and Shannon Hoon.....but does that make them mtv ass-kissers? go back and listen to the song again, pauly......esp. the line about "kill yourself and the sales go though the roof"
JLMB is a SATIRE.....do you really think DT, after writing in take the time "just close your eyes you will find all you need in your mind" would seriosly use the exact opposite sentiment
"just close your mind you can find all you need in your eyes" (forget the EXACT line at the moment, it's something like that....)
it is a five-minute ass-whopping balls and chunk filled rant and rave about the state of the biz they are in.....if you don't take a stab at reading between the lines, it's really evident.....
