    ..until Sept.23rd mwahahahahahah!:)

as i already said, there's a lot of keys on Awake, just poorly
mixed...there's the intro and solo to 6:00, intro to CiaW (it's the melody
apart, most important, but doesn't seem so because it's so low), unison
stuff in middle part of CiaW, melodies on IF pre-choruses, piano on
Erotomania (TSM part) verses on Voices, i could go on and on...

Hey I found this site: www.progrock.com
seems more progrock rather than progmetal oriented, but anyways, here's
something you Marylanders might find interesting:

Oct 18: The Orion Space Rock festival

    place: Orion Sound Studios.

    bands:
    Alien Planetscapes
    Architectural Metaphor
    Quarkspace
    Escapade
    Fingerpaint

check out the site..a lot of VERY obscure bands there

I guess WYSP in Philadelphia is the only radio station that hasn't played
BMS! I e-mailed them 12 days ago, then again 5 days...NO REPLY! So, please,
e-mail them at WYSP94@aol.com and request it, thanks.
This makes me one of few who has not heard ANY of the songs...but I am
thankful. I'd much rather pick up the CD on the 23rd (yeah, like any of the
stores around here will have it!) and listen to every song for the first time
instead of hearing certain songs on allocated days on MP3s, promo CDs, radio,
    etc.

To James Ahab and/or anyone else who cares - you're summary of what
happened between 89 and 91 is close though there's a few things to clarify:

Charlie was not only fired due to the direction he wanted to go in, but his
singing style (and range) didn't fit what they wanted, he wasn't much of a
front man and there were some personality conflicts between him and the
others. John Arch (close friend of the band who had left FW not long
before) was the first notable person that they worked with after Charlie -
among other things, he didn't work out due to his wanting to focus on his
family. Next up was Steve Stone who was fired immediately after the
dreadful 6/9/90 gig (his first and only) with DT - known to Mike P. as the
"Steve Stone fiasco". John Hendricks <sp?> came next - dunno what happened
with him. They then got Chris Cintron who seemed to be the right man and
was a few short days away from becoming the official singer when James'
demo landed in their laps. You know the rest...

Hope you all enjoyed this little ditty of DT history...

    http://www.elektra.com/metal_club/dream/season.html... look at it... it's
got the album picture there (for ACOS), yet the first thing they type is :
Produced by ... Dream TheatRE... ugh.

    anyway, about the lyrical stuff...

    >Some of this doesn't make sense. I won't try to refute statement that the
    >Awake lyrics went downhill, being that everyone is entitled to their own
    >opinion, but I will say that I disagree by about 1000%. Compared to I&W,
    >the lyrics are very dark and depressing, but the writing is just as
    >emotional, moving, and eloquent - and this is coming from a guy who
    >despises literature. Again, that's just my opinion, so I won't go on too
    >long about it.

my point was.. (no I wasn't saying that it dropped off staggeringly from
I&W to Awake, just seemed like there were less songs whose lyrics really
hit me as being very thought provoking... (though I did say that "a few
from awake" were included in that "good" assessment... i.e. CiaW, LSoaD,
Scarred).. this was meant (though possibly not clearly stated) that KM's
lyrics dropped off somewhat in Awake as well... don't find any of his songs
in Awake to be nearly as good as those in I&W... (in fact none of those I
mentioned are KM songs, whereas the ones I mentioned from I&W in my
previous post were mostly his I believe...)
    anyway, on to the next...

    >The point that I can factually rebut, is the comment about the lyrical
    >quality dropping off after Kevin left. How can you make that point, when
    >we haven't really been exposed to anything POST-Kevin. Kevin was an
    >integral part of Awake, lyrically. ACOS doesn't count, since it was penned
    >by Portnoy, and while Kevin was in the band. Unless you already have the
    >lyrics to FII, I don't see how you can make this statement.

Again, my main point was the general dropoff of KM in Awake and then onto
FII (w/o KM)... I know ACOS was during KM... I was speaking from the 3
songs I'd heard up to that point of FII (most prominently YNM)... so I
wasn't as confused as you may have thought :) Anyway, that comment was
before hearing "Take Away My Pain"... DAMN... that's an awesome song...
it's been going through my head all day... so anyway, things may change...
lyrics can "grow on you"... so I was just speaking of my
    first-week-of-listening critique.

***WOHOO*** just got the DT radio promo today.... I think (*Gasp*) I'll
wait until my thursday night radio show before listening to any of it...
that way I can be just as surprised as my listeners... call me crazy, but
hell, I'd never get any work done tomorrow if I did open it...

    Hi all!

I just got a nice promo pack from EastWest Germany, including, no, not a
promo, the final version of FII!

Mike Bahr: They are still on EastWest, but since EastWest is an Elektra label...

For all of you who missed the Majesty logo on the cover (myself included!),
it's there! It's in the black area below the blue rings , in dark grey. Damn,
I hope you know what I mean, I'm somehow too excited to find the right words...

I hope that I find the time to include the cover somewhere on my homepage, so
just in case, check out the THE MIRROR-pages:

    http://www.westend.com/TheMirror

Follow the link that says something like "cover" ;-))

BTW, maybe Storm got tired of the shareware font ;-), FII is written in
another Sans Serif Italic font, but sharp, not blurred as on the postcard.

that Dream Theater is now on Elektra, as opposed to East/West (I read this

    Hello,

Just recently subscribed to the Ytsejam, along with getting a job and
this computer, and I'm enjoying it immensely. Reading it today, I
noticed that JamesAhab@aol.com (I don't know how to take lines out of
people's messages for my own nefarious purposes just yet) called John
Petrucci the "crown jewel" of the band, with the disclaimer "not to take
away from the others." He shortly followed this with a comment
concerning the generalized sound of the band, pointing out that the
    "bass never stands out."

]From my bass-centric position as a bassist myself, I have to question
what exactly these above quotes mean. Being a huge Rush fan, Geddy Lee
is quite the exception to most bass players outside of jazz, in that the
bass in Rush music does stand out in the mix. A good bassist, though,
in most cases, does not and should not stand out--it's the nature of
being a rhythm instrument. With that in mind, though, while using the
same disclaimer and not take anything away from Mr. Petrucci, who never
fails to impress, I can immediately think of several bands with
guitarists who stand out and play music along the lines of JP. In that
same vein, then, I cannot think of a single bassist who plays lines as
complex and interesting as John Myung does, while at the same time
utterly succeeds in holding down the bottom end. It's not even that
nobody is similar (because, IMHO, JP stands out among all those like
him)--what amazes me is that nobody comes close to JM. Nobody is doing
    it, largely because nobody can.

As a crown jewel along the lines of musicianship, then, I just worry
that JM might be getting sleighted. If, however, if "crown jewel" is
meant as the jewel the shines the brightest among other priceless
jewels, then yes, as the guitar is most prominently heard of all the
instruments (by nature of its role in the music), then, I would have to
    agree with James.

That's all for now. (I feel like I should be quoting lines from songs
now, which everybody seems to do, but frankly, I don't see why.)

scored by the Predators would have won 3 other games in the League this
week. The brothers matchup of Jeremy Hallum's BU Blazars, and Ryan
Hallum's Purple People Eaters was won by the Blazars 67-56 on the
strength of the Patriots D. Heath Augustover's Northeast Storm
destroyed Jason Hartman's Glen Burnie Liquid Shadows 72-38 to go to 2-0
in division play. J. M. Blevins' London Ultraviolence beat Dana
Boisvert's Mill City Birds of Prey 50-40, and Kevin Madden's Cape St.
Clair Musicsnobs squeaked by the Alabama Lines in the Sod owned by Mark
Peters 35-30. Both winners are now 1-1 and both defeated are still
    looking for their first win.
So after two weeks, here are the standings and points.

    West Points East Points
    Blazars 2-0 129 Northeast Storm 2-0 141
    Hounds 2-0 111 Predators 1-1 156
    Musicsnobs 1-1 89 Ultraviolence 1-1 105
Lines in the Sod 0-2 65 Liquid Shadows 1-1 88
    Birds of Prey 0-2 63 People Eaters 0-2 105

            Next week:
Hounds vs. Lines in the Sod
Blazars vs. Birds of Prey: Both games feature a winless vs. an
undefeated team in the West. Important divisional matchups.
Northeast Storm vs.Ultraviolence: Big point scoring game between the #2
and #5 point scorers in the league. Northeast Storm needs to win to stay
1 game up on the #1 scoring Predators.
Musicsnobs vs. Liquid Shadows: Big game for both teams to stay 1 game
    back of the leaders.
Predators vs. People Eaters: Predators will want to come back after a
close game last week. The People Eaters can score points though, should
be the closest game of the week.

    hi all!
Im just writing to invite all you poor AOL freaks to come and hang out in a
Dream Theater chat room... its usually kinda lonely in here, so company will
    be really appreciated ;}
I usually name the room Dream Theater (big shock i know) and its listed
(hopefully) under Arts and Entertainment in the members section. Or, instead
of browsing for it simply use- "aol://2719:62-2-Dream%20Theater" (without
quotation marks) as a keyword and it will bring you right into the room..
    Sorry about taking up space and all that! ;}
