The reason that I don't see it being radio friendly is that it is very
diverse... I mean, it is a little of everything (much as the CD as a
whole is...). It starts out with the Metallica sound, gets slow, gets
jazzy, gets heavy, gets a little of everything... I think that many
would have problems accepting that much music from a 7 min song...
sorta a music overload for the people used to 3 chords with the lyrics
coming at them in one tone... Again, this is not to say that I don't
like hte song (it still is my favorite, after all). For the most
part, the rest of the songs on the CD follow one pattern, be it heavy
prog, metal, slow/accoustic, etc, they just don't attack you from
every possible angle... ;) BTW, I really really really (should I say
really one more time) wish that I was wrong here, if Peruvian Skies
could make it on the radio, we would have alot more DT material played
on the radio...
(I love that we can finally have some _musical_ debate going on here,
instead of the past garbage... I am finally looking forward to
reading Ytsejams in my mailbox again...)

Hey Jammers,
Just want to add something that might clear up the debate on the PS lyrical content. In a recent DTFC issue, a Petrucci interview was printed and here is what he had to say about the song when asked about it:
"'Peruvian Skies' - Did you pick up on any of the lyrics on that one? Well that is about child abuse. About a girl named Vanessa and how the father was abusing her, and a perspective of listening to things going on, and how she's trapped in that, and how she'll take all of this into her own child's upbringing."
Didn't someone post a few lines of the lyrics a few months ago? It fits this description exactly.

Hey there,
Thanx to all the Rush freaks that responded in regard to the various albums that are out there. I now have 2112 and hemispheres.
Are there any Yes fans that could give me a rundown on the Yes albums please. Which one is best for a DT fan to start with?
thanx ppls,

ARRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! I just downloaded an .ra of "Where Are You Now" from Burstin's site and all I can say is ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! I can't believe they cut this from the album!! Even though I've only heard it through my little one-inch speaker, it easily ranks as one of my top 10 favorite DT songs. It's sortta a cross between some of my favorite DT songs like LSOAD, TLF, AD, Surrounded (okay, only a slight resemblence here), and TSM (that acoustic part gives me chills) while at the same time adding something new to the DT mix. All that's left to say are two things:
1) This better come out as a b-side or heads will roll 2) This better be one hell of an album if they are willing to sacrifice such an unbelievable song.
Richie
P.S. Oh yeah, in case I didn't mention it: AAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!

Hi, there
RHAPSODY is an italian progressive band with two demo (I get one). The one I listen to was really good, there's a lot of progressive ambiance but also an heavy touch. Just notice that they've changed their singer (*I'm not sure*) and now their singer is the ex-LABYRINTH singer (*follow me*). I didn't listen to the album but I know that in france it'll be released in October. I'll get this album when it'll be out

A few weeks ago I picked up "Blueprint..." and I LOVE it! I need more!! I've already found a place to get "Wounded" but where can I find "Time Lost"? The guy at my normal shop said he can't find a listing for it anywhere (and he is the one that found the other two). I heard that it's on a different label or something?
These albums will definately help me get over the coming death of Dream Theater (Sept 23rd). :)
"Blueprint..." sounds like a combo of Rush, Yes, and DT-lite. Not really prog-metal like Superior but they do rock pretty hard in certain spots. No balz and chunk though, if that is all you care about.

Hi all
Question time again. A couple of weeks ago I picked an album by a band called Narita. I think they come (came?) from Denmark. The album is called 'Narita', and is dated 1992. Does anybody know any more about this band? The first track, an instrumental is what sold me - a sort of Symphony X meets Shadow Gallery with a bit of a Dream Theater feel about it. The rest is good, but sometimes bands like Iron Maiden or Gamma Ray come through a little too strong. But it was going cheap, I bought it, and now I want to know more about them. The guys in the band look a right bunch of dorks though - all spandax, make-up and hair spray (like Dream Theater in their early days.
stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Therion - Lepaca Kliffoth

For those that have seen my numerous raves about this POWER DUO, I apologize about posting this stuff again.

In a partially related story, someone in IRC (Syrinx, I believe) mentioned that, at http://www.papabear.com/tlev.htm, you will all find some very interesting news! I'll leave it as a surprise :) For those that can't web, e-mail me and I'll send ya the content...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, I wanted to run this concept by the jam and see how y'all feel about it. I've got this feelin' :), that ANM IS THE SONG FOR THE RADIO. Of course, at 8+ minutes, it's too much for the puny little radioheads to handle :)
But what do you think? Can a radio-friendly length be extracted out of it? My feeling is that there are enough parts there that could be trimmed down for radio (the intro, for example).
There are already several jammers, including myself, that have mentioned liking the GROOVE of this song. It just has that sound that will grab people.
Not that Burning My Soul isn't a great song. I think it will certainly grab the metal fans' attention. Don't you think ANM has a greater potential of grabbing a wider range of attention, though? Like, from the rock/hard_rock fans who don't personally like metal...
I may be completely off base here, but when I hear ANM, I hear radio hit all over it!!!
Comments, opinions, flames all gladly welcome :) I'm not really interested in hearing whining like "Yeah, but you'd be cutting out the best part of the song" and things like that. But if you need to let it out, do it :)
Regards,
Jon
Hello,
So I'm down at Penn State for the weekend, and I'm walking back from my friends apartment at 2:30 in the morning and I'm wearing my Home for the Holidays long sleeve, and a guy stops me and says, "Hey, Dream Theater, allright, they went to my high school." Picture this with the typical Long Island accent. Anyways, he said he went to school with Petrucci's sister Joyce. He said the guys were real cool. I asked him if he listens to them at all, but no, he doesn't. He said that DT and Craig Biggio (baseball player) are the most famous people from his highschool. We just laughed about it, he also said that he doesn't meet many people that know who DT is. Anyway, that makes for the fourth DT encounter at PSU. The last being running into Portnoy's sister at a bar. So always wear your DT apparel, you never know. Oh yeah, about the new songs . . . haven't heard 'em. Gonna be patient and wait for the 23rd.
Anyway, now on to listening... This should be great! The only CD I have so far in this set is Subconcious, so this should hopefully tide me over until next Tuesday!
I'll give a report on it once I've had a chance to listen to it some (something other than FII to review! :). Now if I can only keep those pesky users away long enough .... heh heh (*evil grin*)
Hey everyone, just thought I'd put in my $.02 about the local radio stations down here in Columbia, SC. Well, frankly, they suck IMO! I called one of the more decent stations (WARQ Rock 93.5) and asked them if they had the promo CD for FII, and they said they got it in last night (just a little late huh?). Well, I asked them if they would play any songs from it, and they said that they didn't know which songs the record company wanted to be played. So I went on to explain that East/West was the label and that they chose BMS to be released on rock radio. But they were like: how the hell do know all this?! So I told them that that info can easily be found on the internet, but I guess they thought I was BS'ing them because I haven't heard a millisecond of any new DT so far, just the same old ska and folk shit! So now I'm gonna ask a favor: could any of you, if you find the time, help me to show them the light by emailing them at: Thanx.
Go Panthers!!
I think that he just don't have to make any comments who sells more. He is starting to have jealousy of Andre Matos that sings better than him specialy on Live, and is a better composer too.
You are right. 'Estrlismo' foi uma palavra bem empregue, pena e' que somos poucos a perceber.
I never had the oputunity to see them alive. I just see the video Live In Tokio and I don't like his presence on stage he isn't very nice with the rest of the band.
