I know that the music on the CD is really what matters, but the
supposed album cover for Falling Into Infinity just doesn't cut it.
Dream Theater's music has a certain consistency to it and so should the
album art. If you look at Images And Words, Awake, and A Change Of
Seasons, the album covers all three follow the same consistency in the
style that they are done in. They should have definetley kept it that
way. And also, where's the Dream Theater logo?! It seems that
everybody's dropping their logos all of the sudden. Some of them being
classics, such as the Metallica logo. To me the Dream Theater logo was
just as important. Again, they should have kept it that way. We'll see
on Sept. 23. Hopefully, the music will live up to the past four
releases. By the sounds of "You Not Me", it's going to be pretty good.

                                                                                            -C. Glover

Some of the worst album covers ever:

    Van Halen: Diver Down
    Rush: Signals
    The Black Crowes: Amorica
    Metallica: Load

..however, some of the best album covers...

    Van Halen: Balance
    Rush: Roll The Bones
Danzig III How The Gods Kill
    Sepultura: Chaos A.D.

As I am new to the YtseJam, and looking for band members, I thought
I would introduce myself to the list in a call for other musicians-

I live in Columbia, MO and attend U of Missouri
I play guitar, write music and lyrics, and have been the vocalist
    of multiple bands-
I'm looking for keys, drums, bass and another guitar (maybe)
if anybody out there is in my area and is looking to start up
a group, I'm on the lookout!

Coming from a mainly metal background, my fav bands are DT (duh!), Cynic,
Death, Maiden, Spastik Ink, pre-Chaos Sepultura, and I dig a lot of
    straight
metal bands like Megadeth, Danzig, and the ever-powerful Sabbath!!

If you have any interest at all in prog/metal or technical metal, and live
    in my area,
please write me back and maybe we can hook up!
    Thanks!

I think I just missed BMS here at 4:30pm, but as much as I hate to think
I'm not the coolest radio guy in Madison by being the only one to play
Dream Theater on the radio, WJJO-FM in Madison, WI will play ALL of FII
tonight on their show, I think it's at 11pm... and yup... from their WWW site:

11pm: Vote the Rock: WJJO's Sean, The Man of Steel plays your favorite
Solid CD's from beginning to end with no interruptions on the WJJO Solid CD.

so, even though I have the CD, I'll still be listenin'!

Falling Into Infinity will be played in its entirety. I think I just had a
moment. :-) BMS is on right now! :-) I'll have to talk to the Program
Director, and ask what made him want to play the whole thing at such a

Absolutely. I simply cannot get over just how consistent their music is. I
mean hey, I&W is so consistent with the songwriting style of WDADU, and
further, Awake also is amazingly consistent with I&W. Using the Transitive
Property, we find that the music on Awake is also consistent with that of
    WDADU. Yes, very consistent.

Yeah! I just hate it when bands do things differently for a change! I just
love to hear the same stuff over and over again, as well as to look at the
same old album artwork over and over again. Let's hear it for stagnation!

You! To the blackboard! Now grab that chalk and write 1000 times: "I will
pay more attention to what has already been posted to the Ytsejam....I
will pay more attention to what...."

Now class, please inform Mr. Glover where the Majesty logo is.

And hopefully it will sound just like all the rest. Gotta be consistent,
right? Just like WDADU. Or wait.....no, let's hope it sounds just like
I&W.....no, scratch that. I wanna hear Awake part 2. No, wait.....since
when has Kevmo been outta the band? What's this about Charlie not being
    with them any more?

    Oh nevermind. ;)

There has been an update to the I. Crimson Sunrise file, so all checkers
should look at that file again. No wrong notes, just alternate fingerings
from a Jammer who stood 15 feet away from Petrucci when he played it.

Also, please try to check the files out by Sept. 23. I am going to get
this into Petrucci's hands in the hopes that he might correct it for us
himself. But he's going to be pretty busy soon (hmm...I wonder why). I
think the transcription is accurate enough for him to look at and correct
now (meaning there are probably so few mistakes in there that he would
probably do it...I doubt he would have wanted to take the time to correct
the initial version with so many mistakes). I am actually hoping that he
will make sure all the positions are correct.

Let me know if you want to be a checker and I'll email the web address

    Hey,

Don't forget the DT FII listening party at Sam Goody in Laurel Park Place, 6 Mile & Newburgh, Livonia MI (Off I-275) this upcoming Sunday, Sept. 21.

The more people that show up, the more events like this I'll be able to do. Elektra is buying pizza and beverages and there will be collectable DT giveaways. Check this weeks Metro Times for the DT listening party add.

I am also trying to get Elektra to sponsor a DT contest for free tix to the show when they come to town. I'll let you know when that happens. Later and Thanx in advance.

CDNow has a service that allows them to update you via Email upcoming and recent releases. Supposedly, this is customized according to the type of music that I like. Of course, there was no catagory for the type music I listen to, so they send me the generic Pop/Alternative new releases. Falling Into Infinity was not on there among all of the other September releases (and they even had a new Jackson Browne CD listed...so they can't possibly claim DT is too obscure).

Anyway...it bothered me enough to send a complaint to their customer service department. Here is the email that I sent them, and the response they gave me.

    > From: tbaddley@ontheair.com > Date: Sun, 14 Sep 1997 15:33:32 -0400 > To: managerfb@cdnow.com > Subject: comments > > Why do your email updates not even mention that a new Dream Theater CD (Falling into Infinity - EastWest) is going to be released on Sept. 23. I've checked deeper, and you are offering it for sale, yet no update from the email. Some customization. I know that this isn't the top 40 crap that y'all usually like to push...but there are a lot of people who would like to know about any release from Dream Theater. > > This would also hold true for artists such as King's X, Fates Warning, Galactic Cowboys, and Steve Vai. > > Vocal pop songs are all the rage these days, but there are still many of us who are musicians and like to listen to other (real) musicians. > > Thanks for giving me a place to voice my opinion/complaint. > > Tom Baddley

Thank you for taking the time to write us with your suggestions. It is important to us to know our customers' opinions so that we can continue to provide the best service possible. I have forwarded your concerns onto the appropriate department.

Well, it's a better response than we've been getting out of some of these DJ's. I'll update the jam when I get my next CDNow Email and let y'all know if they added FII onto their list.

Hi all, Anyone know just WTF Shadow Gallery are up to ? April 98 before a new album ? Are they having serious problems, whatever they seem to be taking an awefully long time to record a new album. Concidering that DT took such a short time to finish FII, one wonders what is the reason for the delay ? I heard some of the samples of the new Royal Hunt album, only wav files, but they impressed me enough to order the new album, sounds very promising. LaBrie and Matos comparisons ? IMO in terms of voice, songwriting, lyrics, frontman, arranging Matos is light years ahead of LaBrie, but I enjoy them both and to compare them is really unfair.
