I think you are confused. DT did NOT play WFS at Birch Hill on 12/14/96.

No problem man, I doubt I could take anything written on the Jam too
seriously (no offence Skadz) other than official news. All we have
floating around this list is opinionsa, and since many of us live in
countries where it is alright to have your opinions and express them, we
do. I think the reason I think covers are so intergal is because I am an
audio/visual type of person. I love movies and music videos (good ones,
not the crap they play on eMpTyV). I mean when I think of any of the
albums as a whole the first thing that comes to mind is the cover. My
favorite of the past has to be Awake's cover with a symbolic synthesis of
all the songs on the album in art. It was incredible, and you even could
see the past of IW on Awake's cover in the precence of Metropolis in the
    background.

I think DT has always put a ton of thinking into their covers and I am glad
they have. I am still looking for posters of any of the covers (anyone
know where I could find such relics?). But as I said before, thats's just
my opinion, I could be wrong...

Well, since I have James LaBrie audition Demo singing this song along with "Take the Time" and "Learning to Live", I think that it was written before the "Images and Words" sessions, but only recorded on "Awake" sessions.

    Hey all!

I was just looking through the Minneapolis Star/Tribune, and saw something interesting...

X-105 (a trio of little 5000-watt stations which play hard rock/ metal--yes, they play BMS quite often) and 93.7 "The Edge" (the commercial success; a zillion-watt station that plays alternative) are switching formats!!!! The same folks own both stations, and want the metal stuff on the big commercial station, and the alternative on the wussy little stations. Either that's very cool, and metal is coming back, or the end of the world is at hand.

The doorknobs at the paper, however, used the word "progressive" to mean "alternative" in a couple of places. Morons.

I have a medium-sized black car. But hey, it's not the size, it's how you drive it. :)

I don't know how prominent the stick is on this album, but there is a short stick duet on King Crimson's latest live album "B'Boom". I wouldn't recommend buying it for "Two Sticks," but I think it's worth it for the live version of "Red."

It's also the key instrument of the track "Threnody for Souls in Torment" off the album "The Bridge Between" by the Robert Fripp String Quintet. The quintet is Fripp on electric guitar, Trey Gunn on "Grand Stick" (whatever that is), and the California Guitar Trio on their acoustic guitars.

In general, if you hear something that would be described as a spooky, wah-ish electric cello, it's a stick.

After seeing Fates a few weeks ago on tour, I can honestly say that if Fates were to open for DT and play APSOG - they would blow DT right out of the venue. No question about it. None of 5 or 6 DT shows that I've been to have have come close to rocking my nads the way that Fates did that night. It was unreal.

I wonder if DT would let Fates do all of APSOG (about 45-50mins) for an opener. That would definately be cool of them and I know FW would pick up TONS of new fans.

If this FW/DT tour comes true, I pray to God that I can see it! On the Awake tour, us Marylanders missed FW on tour by about 1 week!! We got stuck with I Mother Earth. Ugh.

We all hope Metropolis Part II will be released as an EP (even if we have to petition again :), but does anyone know which, or how many of the songs cut from FII will be on this EP? In a best case scenario, all of them will be. In this case we would have a fairly long EP, which I would not mind at all. I just can't wait till I can hear any of the new material, it seems I'm one of the few to be waiting.

I just bought the Rudis/Morganstein CD at Virgin Megastore in NY when I was there to watch the taping of the Conan Obrien show. Anyway, I will say this. Get offline, stop whatever you are doing, get in your car, drive until you find this CD and buy at least two copies of it. If you are a prog fan, you must own this. If you saw RM open for DT a few years back, you must get this CD. Did I mention that this CD rules. For those who don't know, Rudis/Morganstein are two people, a drummer and a keyboardist. All instrumentals. The keyboardist uses one keyboard, a Kurzweil K2500X, which is an 88 key keyboard that can do anything. live, they barely use sequences, Jordan plays everything live. These guys are unbelieveable. I was listening to the CD and wonder why DT passed on Jordan as keyboardist, he can play faster than any musician I ever heard. I would say he's the Steve Vai of the keyboard. I would love to see Jordan and Keith Emerson and KEvin More, Rick Wakeman and Derek go at it. Please, for God's sake, get this CD and support some great underground progressive music. I would never steer the Jam wrong. I just have to wonder though: are there any other keyboard-based prog rock bands besides Rudis/Morganstein, ELP, and Magellan? I am completely hooked on keyboard oriented music that is progressive. Somebody point me to more of this stuff.

    Hey Detroit Jammerz,

The add for the DT FII listening party has been printed in the Metro Times, but they got the address wrong. The correct information follows:

Dream Theater "Falling Into Infinity" Listening Party Sunday, Sept 21, 1997 from 1-3pm @ Sam Goody in the Laurel Park Place Six Mile and Newburgh, in Livonia (6 Mile exit off I-275) SG's Phone #: 313-462-6067

    Collectable Giveaways and free pizza.

I have been in contact with many area jammerz and DT fans in the area and the turnout looks really good. I suggest you all wear your ytsejam T-shirts or some other DT apparel so others can recognize you as a fan. Thanx in advance for showing up and have fun.

    Ok.

I've heard many, many, many times that Fates rocks so much ass live that any other band can't even come close. But I want to hear "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" live. If you have any of you have any boot of this tour (has it ended), I'd like to trade with you. Please for a(n) (incomplete) list of my bootlegs, check the following URL: <http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/bootleg.html>. It's been quite a long time that I don't have the time to update it (and I've received 6 or 7 new bootlegs that I've not included there), but I'll try to update it soon.

I want to see if Fates can rock this much. :-)

Oh! And if you have *ANY* Metallica video from the "...And Justice for All" era, please let me know and we *will* arrange a trade. I'm specially dying to have any video (the only one that I have is from their box "Live Shit: Binge & Purge") from this tour (NTSC or PAL-M videos only, please).

well, i got permission to do one.....so i wrote one up.....

and even though i don't know how long it's supposed to be.....what i did write is up on the web at

    http://www.umich.edu/~ahtrap/fii_review.html

do me the favor of looking at it, and tell me if it's too "wide-eyed fan"-ish, or if it's got too many references only a fan would get...or whatever......just looking for a review of the review, because i ain't never done one of these before.......
