For any Ryche fans out there, I have finally finished SURGICAL STRIKE - http://www.dhpc.com/ryche/ well, for the most part. More will be added but the site is fully accessable now. I really lucked out with this because Michael Wilton saw my work and had me design an animated chrome TriRyche for his upcoming web site. I am stoked!
SORTADTC: Just a few more days folx! I have not given in to any temptations to listen to the mp3 files or anything. I haven't heard one single song off the CD yet and I am anxiously awaiting my copy of FII from cdnow to arrive in the mail! It's been a long wait for this fix, and once again my girlfriend will be calling me "obsessive" as I fly down the road with new DT crankin on my CD player!!! WOOHOO!

Does anybody know what equip JP uses to get that special flange/phase sound in the intro on New Millennium? I really love this song and was supprised to hear that moody theme in the middle, with that wah thing and that sexy bass. Boy it's gonna be a looong weekend.... Later jamanoids... >

Hey there, although my day was not monumental it started out pretty well. I am walking along the street and I hear the opening of 6:00 blaring from a person's car. I give chase. I catch up and shout out "Dream Theater." The guy is like "yeah!!!"
Now onto the Tool comment. I have only heard Aenimea (I own it) and I must say I do like it, but there is only so much I can take (about the first 6 songs) in one sitting just because it is so emotional. I like it once in a while.
Now the artists... Okay I just stopped by my favorite music store (Rasputin's) and checked out their Prog section (yes they have one but it is all serious OLD SCHOOL stuff) so I was wondering people's opinions on these bands/artists...

This is probably old, but I just got my hands on the wonderful DT- boot "Uncovered", and I'm wondering what the hell is happening around 00:40 of Red Hill Mining Town, when the song is broken off. LaBrie is saying: "Uh, I don't think so... No, no, no. (...) Okay, you can go whenever you want... (...) We just found out about this gig about four hours ago, so..." What's the argument here? Does anybody know?
He was talking about the fact the song wasn't played in the right way. So they stopped and the restarted it correctly. He justifies the fact telling that they haven't time to prepair the gig and that anyone could go away whenever he wanted if they didn't play in a good way....
The other thing is, who wrote and originally recorded RHMT?
Was written and performed by U2 surelly. 99% it was on the Jashua Tree.

Dubbing software is a lot more risky then dubbing music. If the SPA (I think that's the letters) find out about this you could be screwed. I'd definitely be careful before dubbing software. I know the SNES isn't really software but probably falls in that category. The SPA could easily get a warrant come in and take all your computer equipment. Be careful.

Hi Jammers,
I'm sending this message late, but as I didn't read anything about DT show in Rio de Janeiro, I'm here. Well, first, I'm very happy because I got my copy of ACOS signed by them on saturday. The show was on last monday. As in Sao Paulo, Dr. Sin opened with a great show. And the song was really good. In the middle of the show, they invited Jonatan Mover, the Satriani's drummer. Really great!!
So, more 30 minutes, and ACOS began to play. I think that the set was the same of Sao Paulo. LaBrie was wearing a Brazil soccer team t-shirt and Petrucci a t-shirt of the most popular soccer team here in Brazil (and the best too):Flamengo :))) They played new songs like Peruvian Skies and Burning My Soul, a version slower of Caught in a Web and a electric version (and very beautiful) of Silent Man.
They played YtseJam and during the drum solo, Portnoy lost one of the sticks. Of course he was kidding!! The finished with Metropolis and after the solo, they stopped to celebrate five years that a guy (I don't remember his name) was with them. So, Portnoy started to sing Discotheque of U2! Then, they returned to Metropolis and finished with a small part of One of Metallica and the beginning of A Fortune of Lies!!
Well, excuse please of my horrible english. I hope you understand something.
Regards, Rogerio P. de Souza

Got my TDOW cd yesterday. Wow! This is Mike's best DT boot in awhile. For an audience boot this is incredible. The best audience boot I've ever heard. The additional A Vision with Charlie is incredible as well. I was like that's Charlie???? He sounds great on that track...
It's too bad that Mike and Brian Cox had the falling out. These two working together could produce more excellent cds like this so other jammers could enjoy these shows as well.
Another great job Mike!!!!!!

Sorry to bug the whole jam with this but I would like lots of feedback - personally, of course. I've finally decided I need to get my hands on a portable DAT recorder. What I'd like to know is: a) where can I get one for the best price; and b) can a portable unit take the torture of being used as a home player on a regular basis, or will its heads wear out like a video camcorder? If anyone has any info, especially on b, please mail me privately. Thanks

After listening to the new version of Lines in Sand, I just had to post this. Keeping in mind I made over 60 tapes for the fix shows (so my opinion may be somewhat skewed) the new version took out the two best parts of the song. The first after Derek's solo in the beginning they jump right into the musical chorus as opposed the longer version which played a lot better in terms of emotion. Second, after the jazz prog sections when James begin to sing again they took the soaring lyrical part out after he sings, "the mysteries we nurture our the fabrics of our lives" and jump back to the lyrical chorus. ON the fix tape my God James gives me goose bumps everytime with the emotion and range of that part. Too bad. Stil the song rocks, and is one Dt's best. As much as Derek bugs me, have to give him total appreciation for this one. Take the time.

Prior to the Winger days, Rod Morgenstein was in the Dixie Dregs, a most excellent band!
Isaac added:

When I saw them do a clinic up in Danvers, MASS, Rod mentioned brining Rudess along to hang with Kip and jam to some of the new album that Kip will be coming out with soon. He expected Jordan to know a little of the material. Jordan not only learned every song off the disc, he learned all the voices (guitar,bass,keys..think he left the drums alone for ROd :)
Kip was sufficiently blown away! Perhaps they'll be opening for Kip on the new tour? Or just outright playing with them.. I'll be there, either way!!!

My suggestion. Buy Aenima and make your own observation. Personally, I love their last two albums(they actually have three) with Aenima being a little better than Undertow. As for the lyrics, they are very dark and angry for the most part. It's hard to make out some of the lyrics because of the singer's vocal style but you can find the lyrics to all of their albums on the web. Just try them out - they are definitely different.

What!?! You didn't get the album after /I/ recommended it? How could you? ;-)

Well, the first guy is like how we feel about DT. And the second guy is like how we feel about DT. :) The second guy is probably talking about how metal should be underground, and since Tool isn't underground now, they're metal, and if they not metal, don't buy it. [alert run on alert] The last album Ænima is great to me.
> The only things that I know is that they have 2 albums and that > everyone seems to find their songs strange, with unusual lyrics (are the > lyrics interesting?)
They also have an EP. The lyrics are great through the album. The song you mentioned before, is about how the singer wants the earth(mother) to earthquake-LA-into-the-ocean(wash it all away). There's even a song about selling out called "Hooker with a Penis." :)
