Well my friend at the radio station got the promo copy of the album a week
ago and asked if I wanted to listen to it. I told him that I'd be waiting
for the release date. Call me crazy but it's a much more rewarding
experience when you get to go down to the CD shop after class (or
sometimes even DURING class) and buy a new album and then just listening
to it in your room for the first time.

What are the bonus tracks on the Japanese release of FII?

The two bonus tracks on the Japanese version of Falling Into Infinity
are Speak To Me and a demo version of Take Away My Pain. I really wish
they would've put Where Are You Now on it though.

    Album reviews:

    Paradise Lost- One Minute
Excellent beyond belief. I don't care what any asshole says about them
selling out and using industrial influences on their new album because
the sound works so well. The music is haunting yet the album is
uplifting in a musical sense. Its also a great album to listen to when
your really depressed or pissed..."and for one second, I understand and
for one second, my life was in your hands...." Amazing shit.

    Bruce Dickinson- Accident Of Birth
I like the album but not all of the songs caught my attention like I was
expecting. The catchiest song on the album is Road To Hell (which should
be a single). Man Of Sorrows and Arc Of Space are both amazing ballads
and Taking The Queen is my absolute favorite..the use of the
part-ballad-part metal tune always gets to me.

    Dream Theater- Precious Things
Great job, Mike. This is better than I expected. Lost Without You moves
me to tears everytime while the live version of A Change Of Seasons just
rocks...my fave part in that is when James sneers..."let's feed off him
misery". Surprisingly, I didn't care for Raise The Knife. The Covers
Medley is awesome although Innocense Faded isn't a song I ever cared
for. Overall, a great album, though.

    Enertia- Momentum
Another tight album from the straight-forward metal group out of
Gloverville, New York. I still think Law Of Three was much better but
songs like Dear God and Ripped Out are just plain killer.

    Testament- Demonic
Hate it. Too heavy and most people I've met agree with me. Where the
hell is the Testament that we all love and know? John Doe is the only
half-way decent song on the album. Sorry

Awaiting my copy of Falling Into Infinity and Savatage's The Wake Of
    Magellan.

    Don Compton

I haven't listened to any of the new stuff so I don't know how
slow the songs you're talking about are, but I&W had WFS, AD, and
Surrounded (3 mellow songs) and Awake had The Silent Man, LSOAD, and
Space-Dye Vest (3 mellow songs). It seems to be their ongoing tradition.
I think that makes 2 people that said Anna Lee is reminiscent of
Queensryche's Lady Jane. I wouldn't mind...that's my fave QR song!
Well, in a little over 24 hours I'll judge for myself.

I know you said other prog concerts don't count, Brian, but you all might
    find this amusing...

I went to Rush's "Test for Echo" tour in Atlanta last December. Buying a
T-shirt, I bump into somebody else who just in passing mentions that he's
going to see DT in Birch Hill in a day or so. I look at him and say "Are
you on the ytsejam?" He nods, and I find out he's Paul Cashman. Paul and I
chat about DT and Rush for a bit then split for our seats.

Two days later I read a review on the Rush mailing list from Paul. He
mentions running into another Rush mailing list member while buying
T-shirts (that was me). I shake my head, because I hadn't noticed Paul was
wearing the NMS (Rush mailing list) T-shirt -- I'd just started talking to
    him.

Heh. Anybody else ever run into another 'jammer *without* benefit of a
    DT-related T-shirt to help out? :)

    Cheers,
    Phil

I've noticed there are ppl here that seem to like DT mostly because of
their 'proginess', and are therefore heavily dissapointed when DT plays
'simple' songs. Now I admit that the middle section of Metropolis is what
made me pay more attention to these guys. And I was raving all the time
about how awesome and talented they were, etc. But two things have happend
    since:

    1) I heard with I&W what they were capable of.

    2) I realized that there are many musicians and bands out there (in many
genres) with just as much, or more, talent.

After this, i stopped being impressed by their technique. When I got Awake,
aside from the quintuplet part in the Erotomania solo i wasn't impressed
from a technically point of view. But I still love DT. Why? Because apart
from the technique, they have a quality which is hard to find. An
undescribable 'power' or 'energy'. It's impossible to explain but every
time I'm bored of a certain CD i'm listening too, I'll feel like putting on
DT because they have what the rest don't. Few others have that (I guess
it's different for everybody). For me it's been Metallica, Maiden,
Satriani, Extreme, Rush, and most recently Tool. And that's what I'm
looking for in DT's music. Not odd time sigs and difficult solos. I don't
care if they write simple songs, change the logo, shave their heads,
whatever. As long as they have undesbribable thing they will remain my
favorite band. Anybody else feel the same way?

    Just a thought

What's wrong with ballads? I guess in the past DT hasn't had much slow
songs, but just beacuse they do, there's nothing wrong with that. You just

Whether you are a new fan of PL or not, there are no industrial influences
on their at all, how about a slight 'techno' influence on a couple of
songs and one big Depeche Mode influence overall ? Singer Nick Holmes said
they were a big influence on 'OS' in an interview in the fan club

I'm adding a section on the Lemur Voice site called "Reviews" and this is what i'm requesting:

I'm looking for people to write a review of Insights, the debut album from Marcel and the boys. The more you write, the better (obviously). I'll be taking them and putting them up for show in the "reviews" section of the page.

With that in mind, i'll be taking submissions for the next few weeks. Send it to either syrinx@dreamt.org or syrinx@mindspring.com with the SUBJECT of: Lemur Voice Review. I thank you for your time, and i hope to read some of the reviews shortly.

    - mike.
