Well, I saw DT yesterday (Friday) on MTV too. Pull Me Under, of
course. On Headbangers. It was the first video, and they talked about the
new album begin called "Falling into Infinity", about the band members
being virtuosos etc. Maybe the people will really know about this "Dream
Theatre" band, if MTV supports them.

Well, MTV Latino is really nice when it comes to show new bands.
It is *much* better than MTV Brasil. Thru their program Headbangers, I
knew some bands like: Emperor, Amorphis, My Dying Bride etc. But I've
already written something along these lines.

Yeah, it seems that 98Rock has been playing a good bit of BMS lately. In the last jam some guy said he heard it at 3am or something like that. I heard it friday night around 8pm and a friend of mine heard it thursday night around the same time.
Not sure what I think about it though. SOunds a little better than YNM. It's got alot of that White Zombie sound to it.
I didn't like the sound of the heavily processed vocals.

I realize this guy is just giving his opinion, but remember the guy that had the opinion that that one part in scarred sounded like "the price is right" not "wheel of fortune" and that other guy that said that "Another Hand" was the same song as "to live forever"? Opinions can be proved wrong.
Pasi: What album are you listening to?!? I challenge you to find one note on the whole album that sounds remotely like grunge. there's is none. If you can't hear the odd time sigs it's not DT you need to be disappointed in it's your music theory teacher. If you can't hear the solos in the middle of songs it's not DT you need to be disappointed in, it's the ear, nose and throat guy you saw last week. Mike tries to play more complicated than it is? would you rather he junked all of kit except a snare and a bass drum like on the aerosmith "Gap" commercial? What do you think drumming is for? to make it more interesting! (and to keep a beat obviously, but that's a back seat when you can keep a beat in your sleep). do you even know what a polyrhythm is? I really hope you just give your copy away to someone that will listen to it.

Well, the second version of Black Diamond seems to me to be a demo track. There's not as many secondary keyboard and guitar parts, the keyboard solo is longer (instead of trading with the the guitar), and the lyrics are TOTALLY different. Anyone have these lyrics transcribed? Mape?
And the second song is called "Uncertainty" -- not "I'm Seventeen" like I used to think :) -- and it's from the "Episode" album.

i managed to get a copy of the new album early through my colleges radio statio (upon receiving it i creamed in my pants), and i've listened to it nonstop since. it's fargin' awesome! yes, it is a bit more generic, but it's still very progressive and immensely far away from all the redundant bullshit music of today. favorite song- Lines in the Sand. Incredible! i creamed my pants once again when i heard him singing those unbelievable backup vocals (keep in mind King's X is my other most favorite band besides DT). my other favorites are New Millenium, Burning my Soul, and Trial of Tears. all i can say is it's about fargin' time! then today i was in some store and they had the album! he got it early from his distributor, so i quickly snatched it. i also heard Burning My Soul on 89.5 WSOU, Seton Hall Pirate radio, which is a great station but doesn't come in at my school which sucks! I saw Faith No More at Roseland in NYC last night, anyone else on the jam ther? i saw a guy with a hat with the majesty symbol on it. anyway, the show was a bit disappointing. they were only on for an hour and ten minutes! what a jip! and they played only ONE song from The Real Thing, which is my favorite album by them, the new stuff is good but there's so little guitar in it. they ended with We Care a Lot, so that was cool, and they were all dressed in suits and ties, except for Mike Bordin who's dreadlocks are down to his ass now. gotta go, it's been about twenty minutes since i've listened to FII, i'm suffering from withdrawal!!!! later. The depth in which bands are described on that homepage is enough for me to decide in to check them out or not...jammers may go too much in depth, describing that "amazing time sig change on 2:45"...I do agree that the jam may be a useful tool in deciding whether to check a band out or not...your raving about opeth, combined with information from that homepage made me buy morningrise when I found out the store didn't get FII yet...of course when I got home and checked out my emailbox, it appeared that they now have FII in stock (2hrs after I was there, and the shop keeper told me that she "has no information about it")...

i was there. I wore my Dream Theater long sleeve from the Fix shows. Two people came up to me and said that they liked DT a lot. There were so many idiots there though. Am I the only one who thinks we should leave moshing to the apes? It's just so damn stupid. I kept pushing people back until it stopped.
I think the highlight of the evening was when the opening band Limp Biscuit (a Korn wannabe) played a George Michael tune.

Most people in the U.S. who have the album already were lucky enough to snag advance promotional copies. In other words, they either have some direct or indirect contact with DT's label (by working at a radio station, record store, magazine, etc.), or they are acquainted with someone who does. Either that, or they were fortunate enough to find a promo copy at their local indie record store... like me, TODAY!!! WOO-HOO!!! Walked into my favorite mom & pop store and there it was, smiling, waiting for me as though god had planned it that way. The guy at the counter said it was the only copy they had, and whoever sold it to 'em had brought it in less than an hour before I walked in. Talk about timing! I think somebody up there likes me. :D
Anyway... no more spoilers, it's too close to Tuesday. A complete review will follow then, along with everyone else's. Suffice it to say, this album SMOKES and is well worth the wait!

I'm sorry FII still sucks. OK Carlos, Lines in the sand is good and so is Trial of tears, but althought New Millenium has some odd times, is sounds very dull and not like they used to make songs. You have to admit they have moved closer to grunge genre with song parts, and the solo moments and those long breaks in the middle of the songs are much less complicated than they used to be. They used to make very clever tricks and polyrhythms and odd times and they all sounded very natural and exciting. These new things are done much more simple and they have lost their imagination. This sounds like any band trying to sound progressive and complicated. I'm happy Mike P. still tries his best. Compare FII to Awake.
