Well, Clive's keys are like Rothery's guitar. Good, emotional, but
not over-the-top. IMAO, of course. :)

Umm... experimental. Other than that, hard to describe.
Pretty much everything on the Cuneiform label is.

    >Renaissance

Awesome. Tremendous femal vocals from Annie Haslam, who's
still around today. The rest of the band is keys, drums,
    bass-guitar-as-lead, acoustic-guitar-as-rhythm, and, on
their later albums, the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Their sound is about 20% rock, 10% jazz, and 70% classical.
Their middle-of-their-lifetime stuff is the best; from
'Ashes Are Burning' in 1973 until 'A Song For All Seasons'
in 1978. The albums just before and after these (Prologue
and Azure D'Or) are OK but not quite as good. The 'Tales
of 1001 Nights' compilations are good, too, as are the
'King Biscuit' releases. (The KB's have some sort of
amp hum on them, though; kinda inexcusable with today's
    tech.)

There's a fan web page at (last time I looked)

Well, well... Maybe you missed the point where I stated that I had
already seen some homepages about the bands, but the information I got was
not quite what I expected... And you know: who can describe a band better
than an Ytsejammer?? Very few people, you know.

Well, they have a great interview with Opeth there (in fact, I use
the web a lot, since I'm a system administrator and I'm almost aways
having to configure and test my system...)

Have you ever seen the depth with which the bands are described on
this mailing list? And have you ever seen the depth with which the bands
    are described on that homepage???

If you want to know about some *REALLY* obscure bands, you can
check the Mega Metal's Homepage (I think that this is the name)... Some
    great stuff there...

BTW, if you people are interested in hearing to some very
interesting things you should really check Therion's "Theli" and In
Flames's "The Jester Race". I'll post some long reviews if I'm asked to.

BTW 2, thank you very much for the "The Gathering" reviews...

Well I just got done sifting through about 30 or so jams...what a tiring process I'm never going to get behind in reading like I did this time.... :)

Well anyway I've picked up a few albums in the reent weeks and I wanted to see if anyone else have heard any of these albums or even bands for that matter..

The first one is Enchant "Blueprint...." - I know everybody knows about this band and all i can say is wow....I was totally expecting balls and chunk, but it didn't matter, the album is great anyway.

I also got Stratovarious "Visions" - This album rocks nads also, it totally reminds me of old Yngwie. On my copy , the first two tracks are switched from the liner and there are 2 hidden tracks, the first is a repeat(I think) of Black Diamonds, the first track, and the second is a live track. Anyone know the song name for this and also if the second version of "Black Dimond" is the same as the first....? Please e-mail me if you know.

    On to the next....

Divine Regale....totally kicks....I like this alot. I have been playing this for over a week until I was on Knights of the Round and saw their featured artist was The Quiet Room" for 11.99 and no shipping!! I listened to the samples and immediately purchased this album. I got it in the mail 3 days later. What can I say....prog with alot of Balls and Chunk!!! Totally kick ass....

Then my friend of mine(Paul, you know who you are) calls me up and says he picked yup the new Incubus "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." album. I excellent, go pick it up and now it's getting full rotation in my cd player right now(until tuesday that is :) Incubus is....well...different. i first heard them open for Primus....or was it 311. I can't remember, anyway if you want to hear some sample check out their web site, you will be pleasently surprised. It's... http://www.epiccenter.com/EpicCenter/Incubus/ and click on the book! Tere are samples of all the songs on the album!! If anybody want's any more info let me know.....

    Now what to listen too....?

    Till tuesday!

    >< I never had the oputunity to see them alive. I just see the video Live In Tokio and I don't like his presence on stage ><

I have to agree completely. LiT is the only live performance I've seen, and while the musicianship was near-perfect, the vocals where bad, compared to what we know KJLB is capable of. Also, he looked like a jackass running around, swinging his air all around. He doesn't have an instrument to play, I undestand that, but his antics during instrumental parts just look idiotic. I guess he's not a very good "showmen".

I was told by a fellow 'Jammer that Damn the Machine had broken up or the voclaist left. I was told by someone else that they changed their name to 'Mumbo's Brain'. I'm wondering if they have any album's out aside from their self-entitled '93 release. I actually got into DTM just before Dream Theater. Anyway, any info on the group would be appreciated as well as any info on vocalist Dave Clemmons new project, if any.

As for my opinions on FII: I HAVE NONE! I have not heard one second of any song on the entire album, and I couldn't be any happier by that fact! I'll be going in frsh on Tuesday.

yep, uh-huh, like the subject says. A friend of mine told me he saw DT on MTV. PMU of course. But get this. Not on Headbangers, and not at 4:00 in the morning. In plain daylight (midday more or less) in regular programming. Now, I mean, shit, I know that PMU got decent exposure back when it came out, but man, this is just too cool. It was Latino MTV, mind you, so you ppl in the US keep an eye out for it..it might just show up:)

Another thing. These last couple of days my mail server went to the shits, so I haven't recieved any email from Wednesday or Thursday. The server says that I'll eventually get all my mail, but i've learned not to trust them:) So if anybody wrote to me in those days, or replied to any of my posts, please send them to me again (privately of course).

On my way back to the railway station, there were big promotional posters of

original Dream Theater font !!! and the message "New Album out on 22,09,97

found 7 Posters all around the city. Great, I should make some photos ;-)

This same thing happened with the latest Queesryche. The change of line into grunge which sells better. I bought FII on Friday morning but I don't aggree with Mike, this stuff doens't sound amazing. It's lame. Where are the odd time signatures? Where are the complicated polyrhythms? What happened to the wild odd solo parts in the middle of the songs? Yeah, sure, Mike tries to play so that it sounds more complicated than it is, but it cannot help. If I want to listen to this kind of straightforward songs, I'll buy Rolling Stones or Nirvana, but I doubt. I must say I'm disappointed. I'll rather listen to Images and Words.

The two classic albums are "Keeper of the Seven Keys" parts I and II. They're both worth getting and are fairly similar - if you haven't heard them then you're really missing out! Before these came a Mini-LP (self-titled) and an album (Walls of Jericho), both of which are excellent as well as being heavier and featuring Kai Hansen (now in Gamma Ray) on vocals.

After the two Keeper albums came "Pink bubbles go ape" - slightly less happy-sounding and a bit more adventurous musically. Next is "Chameleon", the album which a lot of Helloween fans hate. I like it, but it's totally different from any of their other albums - slower, more atmospheric but with fewer of the catchy, "cheesy" melodies.

A change of vocalist took place before their next release, "Master of the Rings", with Michael Kiske being replaced by Andi Deris. I'm not so keen on Andi's voice, but "Master" is a decent album with some cracking tunes - noticebably "Where the rain grows" which is very reminiscent of the "Keeper"-era material.

The latest album is "The Time of the Oath", similar in style to "Master" but with a larger number of excellent songs. I don't like the production on this as much as on their previous albums.

I'd advise you to start with the "Keeper" albums (mine was a double release featuring both CDs in one package) unless you find cheesy melodies off-putting, in which case "Pink bubbles" or "Chameleon" might be better for you. If you like it a bit heavier and more aggressive then "Walls of Jericho" is a must, despite the awful production.

    Hope this helps!
