1- Does anyone know how to save to the hard disk those PetruCCIE
sound samples at Mesa Boogie homepage? When I try to hear them
again (after saving the samples) , the computer says I have to
         connect to the net...

2- Can anyone send me the chord progression (preferably taken
from the official booklet) the synth plays during the UAGM
         guitar solo?

      Thanks

I just read a track listing on the Jam and it's different than the promo that
I got. Mine has the following:

    New Millenium
    You Not Me
    Peruvian Skies
    Hollow Years
    Burning My Soul
    Hells Kitchen
    Lines In The Sand
    Take Away My Pain
    Just Let Me Breathe
    Anna Lee
    Trial of Tears
    - It's Raining
    - Deep In Heaven
    - The Wasteland

Is this the same as everyone else's?

Hey, all you Baltimore and DC Ytsejammers, it sounds like DT is
now being played on 98 Rock in Baltimore (though I haven't heard it yet,
darn it), so now we should try to get DT played on DC101.
Just send email to DC101 (request@dc101.com) and ask them to
play Burning My Soul. I've heard them play DT in the background while
giving a promo for something so I know they're at least marginally
    aware of them.
It would be great if two stations were playing DT in the
    Baltimore/CD area! :-)

There are many eras of King Crimson, so thrack may not be a good
representative. But give the album some time before selling it. It is
very strange and experimental music and it needs some aging time to get
comfortable with. If you really don't like it, then I would vewnture to
say that KC in itself may not be your taste, except for the Discipline
era, early 80s KC which is slightly more accessible.

O.K. Here's part two of my FII review. (I have to rewrite because right
before I sent it, I accidentally kicked the power strip my computer is
    hooked up to DOH!)

    "Take Away My Pain"

Now that I am used to this version, I can say that it is (still) a very
emotional song. I swear I can hear someone (JP?) speaking some of the
words underneath KJLB's singing (when I wear hedphones at least).
    Chills man.

    "Just Let Me Breathe"

Let me see. How do I describe this one? ROCK'S NADS! BALLS 'N CHUNK!
What a ripping tune! I only wish that Sherinian's Hammond oragan was
louder in the mix and that James growled a bit more (like on the old
version). The interlude has evolved since the Fix shows, and I
personally think it sounds even better now. It was very IAW sounding,
so I guess the the change is going to cause a lot of crying over the
jam. I think it is more agressive now. This song on the whole is so
cool. This REALLY should be a single!

    "Anna Lee"

C'mon everybody! What is so bad about this one? I find it to be a very
pretty song. Derek's playing is beautiful on this one. JP is going for
the Brian May-type dry sounding guitar tone. No complaints.

    "Trial Of Tears"

            1. "It's Raining"
Woah! Deep. Pink Floyd-like intro, then it starts to get groovy. I'm
in love! Cool vocals. Things look good so far.

            2. "Deep In Heaven"
When did Steve Vai join the band?!! Cool playing John, but come on!
This is sooooo Vai like. Aww who cares. Great playing by Derek (I love
    this guy!) as well.

            3. "The Wasteland"
Mr. LaBrie returns. Starts sing very IAW-like at one point which
(oddly) kind of turned me off. That style (IMO) doesn't fit the song
very well. Otherwise, it's very cool and sort of reprises back into the
theme of "It's Raining", gets Floyd-like again and fades out. Really
cool. It'll take a couple of listens to get used to the form, but I
already love the mood of the tune.

    Overall:

I now have a new favorite album! (Well, It seems like it may very well
beat out Awake in the long run.)

    Dream Theater,
Thank you very much for sharing your souls with us once again. I love
    this album.

    Peace everybody,

Jon is right on the mark here - this song kicked my butt so hard, I
can't even THINK about sitting down. How DT managed to get a Motown

Oh, and I like the tones on this song - the drums are a bit flat, but at
    least they aren't metallic sounding.

I decide to be a little late to work today and run by the Columbia MD
Best Buy. I wanted to get there early incase they only got 3 cds. Anyway
I get ther at 9:05am and well Best Buy doesn't open until 10am. So I went
next door to Borders and they didn't have any.

I go back to bEst Buy about 11:30 and they have about 20 FII, 1 Images
and Words and 1 ACOS. Of course the new section has Boyz to Men, but no
DT. I notice the cd listening station above DT is ELP King Biscuit Flower
Hour so I listen to the 3 songs the damn thing let me. What I heard was
pretty good. What's the best ELP to start out on? I've heard Brain Salad
    Surgery. How's the King Biscuit?

When I was listening to the ELP some guy comes up and grabs one of the
new FII cds. First time I have ever seen someone buy a DT cd...

Now all I have to do is find somewhere to listen to it. I might put it on
in the lab and hope my coworkers don't kill me...

I also bought the new FNM. I wonder when I will listen to that.

About the DT logo other than the first letter A the logo could be what
the old logo we all love would look like from far away. What do you
think? The letters sorta look like the old logo. The letter A's look like
the second A on the normal logo.

Relax JUST A LITTLE. I thought I made it clear that I was only referring to
posts of a certain type (two types) that are overly common here on the Ytsejam.

    >Secondly, I did not base my opinion of the new Dream Theater
    >album 'Falling Into Infinity' on the fact that I was "looking for a wanky
    >prog fest" (I forget who wrote that), but on the fact that I was expecting
    >some songs that I liked, and in some notable cases this
    >just didn't happen (Me Not You, Hell's Kitchen, Just Let Me Breath,
    >Anna Lee).

That's perfectly fine... who can knock an opinion, just because they
disagree with it? I would never tell you that your opinion is wrong. I
WILL however, tell you that _I think_ (that's MY opinion) your opinion is
worthless, if it's based on 24 hours or less of being in contact with the
album. How can you possibly have given the album a fair shot if you already
have made your mind up, and haven't had the time to really listen for more
than the obvious? Tell me you dislike the album when you have something
more substantial to offer. Tell me what you dislike about the album, why,
and exactly where I can hear what you're noticing if you want it to be a
useful opinion. Saying that "I don't like it" doesn't do much for anyone.

    >Thirdly, one of the things about the Ytsejam that I have always
    >valued is that other peoples' opinions were often respected,

What Ytsejam have YOU been on? heheheh no, I'm not trying to be
disrespectful of your opinions or anyone else's. I'm stating my own
observations about the fact that you can't have much more than a superficial
knowledge of an album after only a couple listens. I made the same mistake
with the new QR... I thought it sucked hard, but then after I heard it about
3 or 4 times (and live) I thought and still think that there's some great
    things on the disc.

    >even
    >if you didn't necessarily agree with them yourself. I only hope this
    >attitude survives the next couple of weeks and that there are no
    >witch hunts against those non-true believers who dare to say that
    >they aren't knocked out by the new album, and that there even
    >bits of it that they don't like.

I'll be sure that you're noted in the Ytse-History book as a martyr,
because you suffer so for your beliefs. There's no such drama necessary
here. If you give me a chance to explain what I'm saying (i.e. read what
I've said above, and read my last post that clarifies the original, in
rebuttal to Kevin Madden's argument), I think you should be able to
understand where I'm coming from, if not agree with me.

Just because Chris Ptacek says something that goes against what you
think, doesn't mean he's attacking you. It just means you were dropped on
the head one too many times as a child. :) Seriously though, if you or
anyone else disagrees with my statements, how about arguing against the
points I'm making instead of just saying "No." or dropping sarcasm like so
    much guano.

    Hi Everybody!

Just a few words about FII... I've listened to it three times and I have
    something to say:

    - The songs.
I can hear more "maturity": they have gradually abandoned crazy musical
parts with odd signatures from WDADU to FII... but I must say that I
miss it a bit. As someone else said, the central part of Trial of Tears
seems to me somewhat boring, nothing like the magic of LTL os Scarred.
A lot of times, you can hear John and Derek soloing on JM's grooves.
It's cool, but sometimes so repetive. Of course I didn't expected to
hear Metropolis, I appreciate the fact that they changed style, but...
I am wondering if the reason of this is Kevin's departure, and I tend to
say yes. I have this feeling in some parts a keyboard is missing...
The other point is that some songs lack originality. The hard songs
sound a bit the same (near to a CIAW feel: guitar & bass groove,
keyboard surround). As for the melodic ones: I LOVE them, but:
    > Anna Lee sounds exactly like it were a song by Queen from the early 80s.
    > Whereas Hollow Years has that typical Sting sound,
I agree. And also, when I heard Take Away My Pain live some months ago,
I was impressed by its emotionality, but this version sounds strange...
it has a... latin feel? Maybe it's the bass arrangement. I really
    prefered the live version.

    - The sound
Not bad, but I agree the drums and the voice sometimes lack something.
And, I don't know if it is because I play keyboards, but sometimes I
feel Derek's volume is too low.
BTW, Derek: great sounds, great atmospheres, great work on Anna Lee,
great solos... but I would have liked to hear the keyboard more
    present in some songs.
Anyway the album is great, hope it will continue to grow on me.
Peruvian Skies and Lines in the sand are great.

Of course these are my opinions; comments accepted.

Sorry if I bored someone, but I really wanted to share my opinions with
    somebody!

The US release date is finally here! After one listen, I think I'm

listen to the lyrics of Just Let Me Breathe.

I did notice something familiar aabout halfway through "Lines in the

    Anyone else notice this?

BTW, for you UIUC jammers that haven't picked up FII yet, I saw two

I just found the neatest site at:
    http://cartoon.ecn.purdue.edu/~branden/rush-tab/

It is a Rush Project site. Kind-of reminds me of what we've been doing
with the ACOS TAB project, except this is much bigger. This is a project
to provide the guitar, bass, _and_ drum tab for every Rush song on every
    album!

I was wondering if there is enough interest on the Jam to do something like
this for Dream Theater? I know the guitarists would like it, and I've seen
some drum transcriptions floating on the Jam recently. I don't know about
bass players, though. Are there any on the Jam? Maybe they are like Myung
and just quiet all the time, because I've never heard any bass related
    issues brought up :)

Anyway, this is exactly what I had envisioned for Dream Theater. Imagine
being able to go to a site and pull down the drum parts for To Live Forever
(Live in Tokyo video), or the bass part to any one of the cover songs off
of ACOS, or the guitar part to Bombay Vindaloo. Man, that would be too
    cool.

But someone would need to head it up. I guess I could help head it up, but
I've been so busy I couldn't do it by myself. Also, I have 0% web space
available (thanks to Kevin H for providing the web space for the ACOS
    checking process).

Anyone interested? Anyone interested in heading it up?

The one you bought "THRAK" is from the double trio period with 2 drummer, 2
bassists and 2 guitarists. It's from the lastest period of King Crimson
that sound different from the other 3 periods.

First period: dinosaur prog/jazz (Greg Lake sings on the first album)

    - In the court of the crimson king, In the wake of poseidon, Lizard
......Island, Earthbound (live boot) (Island is not a first one to start
with because it's difficult to got into)

Second period: dinosaur prog (with John Wetton on bass and vocals and Bill
    Bruford on drums)

    - Lark's tongue in Aspic, Red, Starless and bible black, USA (live)

These albums are more rock with powerful voices of John Wetton. This is the
    peak periofd of the band.

Third period: with Adrian Belew on guitar and Bruford on drums

    - Discipline, Beat, Three of a perfect pair

It's harder and heavier but more in experimental guitars works like
elephant sound. Belew's voice is pretty soft if compare to Wetton.

Forth period (double trio): Belew is still on vocals and guitars

    - Vrooom (EP), Thrak

This is like experimental with complex music. They are very good at double
    trio live, believe me.

I hope this can help you to choose albums you want to listen to.

    Regards,
    AE
