Just to let everyone know...today was supposed to be the last day to check
the transcription. Several of you have sent me some corrections, but it
will be a couple of days before I can look over them...so if anybody else
wants to check this, let me know. There are still a few days left.

After I have looked over the suggested corrections and made decisions, I
will print up a nice copy and send it to Petrucci. Hopefully he will give
us the thumbs up and correct any errors.

I will probably post the address for all to get hold of the TAB about 2
weeks after I send it to Petrucci.

(Man, all I keep hearing in my head are Spock's Beard songs. I hope my
wife was able to pick up the new DT so I can start concentrating on
    something else!)

Whoever was asking if we could lynch him...

I say let's get the torches. I'd like this CD a whole bunch more if it
weren't for the crappy production. And, before you ask, YES, I COULD do
    better!

    I like the CD, though.

This isn't about the BTTCF, which I hear was a resounding success
from the participants. I just thought I'd share with the group that of
the 90 CD's that the Boston Tower Records recieved last night, there were
none remaining at the end of the evening. It is not known if there was a
riot ensuing or not. It appears that Bostons very own Channel 5 was
there to film the impending riot (well, ok, they were there to cash in on
Diana mania). Now if we could only get Tower to play DT instead of that
    moody old Elton John tune.

I have waited three years for this album. I am a little
dissapointed. There are too many alterna-jazzy riffs. I prefer
the metal riffs. The songs don't allow Labrie to soar to those
high notes. Well, I am sure it will get better.

I saw SAVATAGE's 'Hall of the Mountain King' video on MuchMusic
a few weeks ago. I was very happy to say the least. I have been
gone for a while but what is with the delay with the album?!

Also, what is the word with the FATES video.

For some reason I just can't stop growling at the beginning of Burning My
Soul, the song is hysterical. Mike's lyrics are so horrible I can dig
them. Anyway, this cd is perhaps the "grooviest" thing to come out in
awhile. Still, a moment of silence for Kevin Moore on this day as we all
wonder what the hell he is doing. Take the time.

I really have nothing to say. I just wanted to see my name in Ytsejam 3000,
    since I missed 2112.

Oh, yeah, FII kicks ass. Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that digest
3000 came out the day the album did? Coincidence?

I've been waiting (and fighting) for this for a couple of years now. Now
that it's out, I feel kinda empty. I gotta find something new look forward
too (and fight for). Hey, I know,..... I'm gonna start campaigning for the
NEXT Dream Theater disk!!!!! I already can't wait for it!!!!!
I have only had FII for a couple of hours and it's still over my head but I
can tell that this might be my favorite DT disk to date.

i was looking for some new bands last year and found a band called
enchant...i heard some sound samples from the blueprint of the world and
thought...i must have this cd...so, i bought it and .....it's was
amazing...them, i waited for the new album, called wounded and blought
it...i bought the lost time too...the lost time album is far superior than
the wounded...and it isn't an 'album"!!!!!where are the "heavy"songs in
woundes, like at deaths door, and oasis?the voice of ted leonard seems to
be of a teenager on that album...where are the superb perfomance of paul
cradick?i must admit...the bass sound is better than blueprint...the album
(wounded)is very good, but worst(very, very, very worst) than
blueprint's...and what about time lost...it's really good...i thought that
it must been the principal album and wounded an ep, or somewhat......What
do you think...by the way...i saw dt in brasil last week!!!!!!!

Bottom line...FII is great! Damn good stuff! Yeah it's different and
all, but did you honestly expect a Awake II?! =]

I think it's well done and I'm just gald to have new DT in my hand
and it not being a bootleg! (No offense Mike ;)

It is different, and it screams Derick's influence...you can tell that
Kevin Moore is longer in the band, you know what I mean?

Anyway, I think that everyone who doesn't get it now WILL appreciate it
as much as the rest after a while of listening to it. That is what
happened when I got Awake..but now it is just a great album!

To those who "hate it" and don't get it, I ask you to give it time and
more of a chance...look what happened to the listeners of ApSoG. People
were thrown off by the new work of Fates Warning, but after a while
learned how great the album really was.

Well, that's my humble opinion, I hope it helps someone out there.

    Take care,

I went to the midnight CD release sale at a local vendor last night.
Within 5 minutes ALL 25 CD's were gone! And many of my friends here at
tech didn't get a copy... wow, there are more than I thought here! :) I
called the store about 10pm and asked if they had any of the new DT going
to be included in that midnight sale, and the guy said "yeah, we got about
25 in... you may want to reserve one, about 17 or so have already been
reserved... " Anyway, when I got there, I perused the used cd's (as the
line was already long -- content in the fact that I had one reserved)...
Less than 5 minutes after midnight, the guys working the checkout yell out
"If you're here for the new Dream Theater, we're all sold out unless you
have it reserved... We'll be getting alot in tomorrow, but don't bother
standing in line if you haven't reserved a copy..." At which point an
audible moan was heard, and quite a few people left.... I was shocked...

I also talked with some of them, who said they had stayed up to listen to
my show, and thanked me for playing FII tribute show the week before...
cool. Now to get them on the jam.... :)

I had to respond to this. I don't have FII yet, but that's because I
can't get toa music store. What is it with people that if DT isn't heavy
enough, the album sucks. Or am I misinterpretting the posts? I didn't get
into DT because of their heavy metal influences. I got into them simply
because of their progressive influences. And the fact that Kevin More was
and still is a madman on keys. DT is not simply a metal band and if they
want to explore jazz or heaven help us, some aspects of alternative
music, then what is so bad about that? They won't become Nirvana, folks.
I don't think we have to worry about them selling out. But the whole
nature of being a prog rock band is not repeating WDADu, IW or Awake or
even ACOS. Progressive music is not simply odd time sigs and 55mph
soloing. It is about experimenting. The metal aspect of DT is just on
face. If all you want is for DT to come out with guns ablazing, then
maybe you should reconsider the music you listen to. If DT was strictly
metal, I wouldn't like them. I am not a metal fan. I respect metal, but I
don't own any metalika albums or anything. Is that blasphemy? Maybe. Does
it deserve a flame? If you feel lucky. I must warn you, many have flamed,
many have died. But this narrowminded metal-only attitude I see from some
people on this list tends to annoy me slightly. I am not saying that the
whole list is this way, but if I wanted metal, I'd buy it. I want the
proggy elements of DT and from what I hear, they are there. There is
metal aspects, too, if there weren't it wouldn't be DT. But let the guys
    experiment a little.

Well I just bought the CD and the tape and I have a few observations: The
"giant erection" is in fact the third guy in the triangle as shown on the
tape cover. However, on the tape cover, the guy with the tan vest is
wearing a different color undershirt, so perhaps there are 4 guys on the
platforms and it's a square type thing with the 1st person point of view
coming from 2 seperate ppl that are outside of the square. Also, the
distant white thing (ship?) that is present on the CD is not there on the
tape which suggests that it is taken from a different angle. The tape
cover's majesty symbol is quite a bit bigger than the CD's too.

The CD still features the oldstyle gray behind the CD, which is kinda
lame, but I guess I'll forgive them for that. The lyrics aren't there on
the tape version either but it's not like anybody would only buy the tape
    of something anymore anyway.

I'm really starting to think that FII is their best album to date. MP's
high-hat rides throughout the album are incredible, particularly on LitS
and TAMP. JP is incredible throughout and his jazz/blues licks combined
with his typical beautiful melodies and shredding are amazing. Derek is
very good and deserves more credit than he's gotten. He has his fair share
of solos, and Anna Lee is one of the prettier and more emotional songs DT
has done. Also remember what MP said concerning DS's tone: "You'll swear
some of this is guitar." JM finally stands out in the mix and he handles
the opportunity very well. JLMB's lyrics are very very very cool, despite
the Hoon/Cobain reference. Ok that's way too long already.

Hi. Although this message is shown right after my previous one, it's

    Well:

First of all, Derek is a hell of a keyboardist... I'll even say he's
better than moore at some points; Derek can rock big time, and yet he's
very good at proggish playing (synth lead sounds) and jazzy sound. And
    he's a great pianist....

    Hello all,

I've been given a good deal of thought to much of the recent discussion on the 'jam pertaining to why FII rules/sucks. Specifically, I'm interested with how people perceive the term "progressive," and how it relates to the rhythm of a song, band, album, etc. There's been a lot of arguing about whether Dream Theater has become less progressive, but given the subjectivity of the notion of progress, I seriously doubt that any amount of arguing will affect people's concept of "progressive." Inherently, I think people will disagree about whether there is progress in some amount of perceived (because this too is debateable) simplification.

I believe that the entire argument has been ill-founded from the start. Whether or not FII is progressive relative to DT's other albums is, like I said before, subjective; I think it can be agreed, though, that each album has gotten more rhythm oriented. A few people picked up on how JM stands out more than ever before, how the bass seems more integral than ever before. There's a connection here, and a tension that I've wondered about for years, since a band I was in a few years back. We set out to be progressive--how naive we were--but always found ourselves frustrated, writing stuff that inevitably evolved towards the more rhythmic. We also, though, were setting out to be "heavy." Think about, then, how those three concepts--progressiveness, rhythm-oriented, and heavy--relate to one another. Largely, I think, the more rhythm-oriented a band gets, the heavier they are. A song like Light Fuse and Get Away has lots of changes in it, is less rhthm-oriented than a song like Lie, and probably is less "heavy." That's not necessarily good or bad, I don't think, but it does describe a larger trend about DT. Consider whether Caught in a Web would fit well on I&W, or whether You not Me would fit on Awake. Obviously, just like "progressive," "heavy" could be debated 'til we're all blue in the face, but as far as the rhythms go, they are more straight-ahead. Dream Theater is moving in that direction.

There's obviously lots of room for debate here. Another example, I think, is Metallica's Justice and Black albums. There's much more rhythm in songs like Sad But True and The God That Failed than in, say, Justice or Frayed Ends of Sanity. Consequently, there's a bass/ rhythm section presence in Black that's vastly different than Justice. Similarly, some are disappointed with the lack of keys in FII, but it's a natural result of a movement towards rhythm-orientation. I play bass, and I always felt that on I&W, the bass is more or less the forgotten instrument, because there's not much room for it with the parts that JP and KM were playing. Some might argue that it was Prater's production, and to some extent that is true, but no amount of re-mixing would have made those particular basslines in those specific songs stand out. The shift has been gradual and steady, and I wonder that it may have contributed to Kevin's departure, but that's another discussion entirely. NOw that the bass plays such a large role, I simply don't think there's room for key parts that fans of I&W might hope for.

Sorry that this has been so long, but I do think this is a worthwhile discussion, and certainly one with far more potential than recent postings concerning the progressiveness (or lack thereof) of FII. It is the band's evolution along these lines, I think, that determine most people's reaction to the new material.

I agree with this. YNM isn't that bad a song, but the production on just this one song is a very noticable step down from all the other songs on the album. Probably just cause bad production sells and they wanted this song to be the fan getter.

It rolls down stairs It comes not in pairs Runs over your neighbor's foot. It's great for a snack And fits on your back It's woot! woot! woot!

Happy 'Jam #3000 - A New Millenium of Ytsejams!!! (and a damn good tune, as well).

I figure this post will be a good break from all the reviews.

Now this is a thing that isn't very popular here in Brazil. People often doesn't care for who was the producer of some album.

What exactly do you mean when you mean production? I only think of one thing when I see/hear the word production: mix of the instruments. Are there any other (technical) meanings to this word??
