To add to D-Man (not that anybody's paying attention, of course :) ):

Typo #2 (already mentioned): Hollow Years (line 5, part 2 of chorus) -
obviously the record label guy used cut & paste, cuz they're all wrong.

Typo #3: Burning My Soul (line 9) - should probably be "hair's gray",
unless they're talking about gray as a verb (the hairs are in the process of
    graying)

In regards to Hollow Years: I would say it (the first part) is about a
deadbeat father (or at least one who left the relationship). The second may
be about the woman he left, and her reluctance to move on (starts
relationship, but "turn(s) around and walk(s) away".

    Do you hear:

    - a Soundgarden chord (from Black Hole Sun, I think)? I will comment
further when I can find the song.

i picked up my copy of FII yesterday morning and this cd rocks. DT
continues to impress me with each release and FII is indeed a masterpiece
(_killer bad_). the local radio station has BMS in regular rotation now
(guess they got tired of me calling their request line ;-) and more people
are starting to listen to DT then ever before. perhaps a change in the
music industry might just be forthcoming and FII might just pave the way.

to anyone that's close to the band, please pass on my thanx for a most
awesome cd. it's definitely the best cd that i've purchased since their
last release. (jiminy christmas! was that really over 4 years ago?!?)

to the small group of people that don't like FII: it wud appear that the
world has moved on and left you behind. hope you can catch up someday. ;-)

Dude, Dig, you outdid yourself on this post. This has go to be one of the
best posts I have seen in a long while, and definitely the best FIIR.
Although I don't agree with you 100% on everything I still think your post
rocked. Though I have to say, although your post rocks, FII FUCKING
ROCKS!!!! (All of you readers playing the drinking game, pound a couple!)

    Subject: Hollow Years

I think Hollow years is a curious song. Hollow would imply empty,
unproductive, and perhaps that there was no feeling involved. I, myself,
would not see this as being as extreme as suicide, but more of a "pay
attention to you relationships" type message. I think it compared the two
figures- the man, who "takes the easy way out" who "you hear about often"
and who isn't able to face up to his problem and correct it, so he runs
away, and the girl (his wife?) who is the opposite (someone you don't hear
about often) who is very verbal with her feelings and if needs be she is
able to walk away...and I think that altimately, no matter what the
characters "represent" the song is saying that someday you'll have to face
what you don't want to face or what you're scared to face, and then that
"rock you were hiding under" will be exposed, and there will be no where to
run away to. So that you'll see all the time you lived and wasted in those
    Hollow years of hiding.

Well, my $.02 anyway...I do love the album! I just got it yesterday
and already I am totally and completely hooked on every song! I can't wait
    to hear them live now!

         I am sad...

         Why?

Is it because, DT have sold out?
Is it because, they've gone for a grunge production...

         No.

It is because I am a UK Jammer and haven't got the CD yet, but if
that wasn't bad enough I have just trawled through about 13 Jams all
telling me that everyone in the whole world except me (and my mate
Nick - hello Pone) has this CD.

I think I might cry for a little while...

I bought it yesterday, listened to it yesterday evening... All I can say after
this is that I DO NOT have the same feeling of excitement like I had after IaW
and Awake... On some songs I can feel the good old DT (LiTS fe) but I was not
blown away like some years ago with their other albums... I also miss the more
complex rhythm changes and arrangements... I hope this stuff has to grow, and
that a second and third listen will reveal a little more...

    Maybe a little bit disappointed....

     Hein.

I mis the good old DT, you know...

    Hi jammers,

in the USA it's "Burning My Soul", in Holland it's "Hollow Years",
in Italy "Take Away My Pain"... bad (or good?) luck for collectors... :)

IMO "Anna Lee" would be the best choice:
    Beatles-rhythm, Queen-guitar, Elton John-piano...

    Take care,

         Hi,

Me and Wifey sat down last night to watch "Alternate World" (or
something like that) on MTV Europe. I was expecting a large dose of
grunge and stuff... Imagine my surprise when I realised that
"Alternative" actually means middle-of-the-road-pap and Talking Heads
         clones.

DT must be considered "Way out there", most of the alternative
choruses sounded like the Rembrants (repeat 'til fade).

Oh, did I mention that you can't buy DT FII in the UK? <sniff>.

Hi there. I just finished a lyric file for Falling into Infinity if
anyone is interested. It works with Lauren's CD Player.

For those of you interested in a new version, I just had to take a
couple months away from the player for a break. The newer version 0.99
has CDDB "fuzzy" search and all sub-windows (lyrics, booklet, internet
CDDB, and options) are integrated back into one window.

This will be available for download hopefully within a week or two. It
depends on how long it takes to fix one small bug and get my new ISP to
    give me Web space.

As for the lyric file, you can e-mail me to get it and I'll e-mail back
tonight at around 12:30am EDT (U.S.) when I get home from work.

I like FII and I don't give a shit what the rest of you thing...I
don't even mind the production...did anyone complaining make it past
the first track? A New Millenium is the only song that I really don't
    like the sound on...

And somewhere in those six 'jams are bits and pieces of what I would
write in my own review, so I won't waste anyones time (more than I
just have). For all of you that don't like the new CD...unsubscribe.
I've got no use for ya!

I had to go to 4 stores before I could get a copy of FII. Every little
store on the north end of Toronto ordered 1 or 2 copies for the release
date...DUH! I had to buy mine at Future Shop! (For those of you that
don't know, they sell stereos and appliances in Canada, and recently
started selling CD's.) There was not a copy on the shelf there either.
Turns out it was in a pile of CD's that were listened to, but never
bought? Who could listen to FII, even briefly, and not buy it...IDIOT!

The blurred out guy on the CD sleeve is Kevin Moore, looking back at
the stupidest thing he has ever done!

found some sick humor I'd like to share with you.. (especially for those
who were mistaken for Elton John fans while buying FII).

    ELTON JOHN WOWS MOTHER TERESA
FUNERAL CROWD WITH 'THE BITCH IS BACK'
    CALCUTTA--Over 12,000 mourners at Saturday's
funeral for Mother Teresa were treated to a
performance of "The Bitch Is Back" by Elton John.
The delighted mourners, clapping their hands and
swaying from side-to-side in time with the song's
pounding, rollicking barrelhouse piano, joined John
in singing the song's refrain, "Bitch, bitch / The
bitch is back," dozens of times, bringing the
performance to over 12 minutes. "This is the
perfect tribute to Mother Teresa," said Sister
Nirmala, Mother Teresa's successor as leader of
the Missionaries of Charity Order. "The bitch is
indeed back with God." John, who sat next to
Princess Diana at Gianni Versace's funeral and
sat next to Mother Teresa at Princess Diana's
funeral, was seated next to former Beatle George
Harrison at Mother Teresa's funeral, fueling
speculation that Harrison will perish next Tuesday
    in a fiery helicopter crash.

What's going on near the middle of New Millenium? Sounds like my cd is
screwed up then it ends and it's back to normal. Whatever it is, sounds
    wild...

No one commented on my take on the Dream Theater logo on FII. To me it
looks like the Dream Theater logo from the other albums but from very far
away. ie, binoculars, failing into infinity... The only thing wrong is the
    two A's are the same.

Looks like DT is selling big time all over. Hopefully they will be up
there in albums sales and maybe high enough for the week to make the
    album charts.

Think we'll ever see another DT video on MTV? Not after the eMpTyV comment...

FII is incredible. Since 3 days, I'm listinig to it nonstop (this Week I have
nothing else to do, so I can lay down and enjoy this masterwork :-).
I can only say FII=Music In Progress ².

Yesterday, I went to the city and sudenly I've heard something
I stopped. It was outside a record shop. I went inside and WOW, they've
    played "Trial Of Tears" :-))
                    It's raining, raining down ...

I was so happy. This shop normaly plays only techno and dance music.
I've started to sing and all people (mostly techno fans) looked at me and my
Lie /Waking Up The World long sleeve shirt. DREAM THREATER FOREVER :-)

I hope DT will sell a lot of records. I want Metropolis II as soon as possible.

    >Unrelated: As for NM, if I had only heard the first 30 seconds, I would
    >swear I was listening to RUSH.
    >
    >

I hear a lot of Rush on this album, but nothing could be more blatant than
the beginning of Trial of Tears. This part is La Villa Strangiato right
on, and Portnoy even duplicates the percussion from it. I couldn't believe
    it.

Secondly, I think the production on this album does more harm than good.
In a lot of places, the drums are so light that I'd swear we were listening
to Genesis, not DT. I also can't stand how meshed the guitar and keyboard
are, meaning there are only a few places where the two are seperately
distinguishable. I do really dig some of Derek's parts, but for the
majority, I don't like the sounds he uses.

Someone mentioned that this album has no Pink Floyd in it. I can hear
blatant Pink Floyd (influence, not rip off) in several places, such as the
    bridge in Peruvian Skies.

The beginning of Anna Lee sounds exactly like an Elton John song, but I
    can't remember the title.

Regarding Desmond Child on YNM, I assume he wrote/co-wrote the pre-chorus
and the chorus. I love these parts of the song, but I can't stand the
verses, due to the way James sings. Same with New Millenium. I just don't
get the vocals on some of the tracks.

I absolutely love Peruvian Skies. However, does anyone else think that
Portnoy is getting unbelievably predictable, like in the ending to this
song? I love the way this song gets loud and heavy in the middle, but the
double bass is unnecessary at best.

I hate the packaging. It pisses me off that they didn't use the real logo,
and used that stupid alternative record selling logo.

For the most part though, I love the album.

The same thing happened with me. My friend and I went at around
noontime to the Wiz here in Jersey to pick up the CD. We couldn't
find it anywhere, except for the tape (which I picked up). I went
up to the front and asked if they had it. The guy at the counter
said that his colleague was getting them from their bin. I went
over there, picked up two copies, and went up to pay for it.

Mind you, in the meantime, Elton John is playing over the sound
system. The guy took a look at it, saw that we had 3 copiees of
it, and yelled to the back of the store, "Hey, bring a copy of that
up here." He then proceeded to open it up, saying "Screw it, I'll
just buy it." Then he proceeded to tell one of the other co-
workers to call up Elektra to get a copy to play over the sound
            system.

Now trust me, this guy was NOT a Dream Theater fan. He looked at
the CD with a *REAL* puzzled look (he might have thought it was
some Pink Floyd-ish band). But I guess the fact that he sold
about 5 copies in 2 minutes seemed to impress him......

                                                    -Al
