I don't think the Del Fuvio Monks are the ones
speaking at the beginning of Burning My Soul -
it seems to me that it's just James's voice
    layered 5 or 6 times.

My guess as to where the DFMs are present in the
album are in the background vocals in JLMB. If
you put on a good pair of headphones, you can
hear a very deep voice speaking the lyrics during
the prechorus and chorus. Of course, I could
just be smoking some good crack.

As in terms of production, there are a couple
of things that sort of bother me in headphone
    mode.
            1. In Anna Lee, you can hear Derek
breathing from time to time in the
                intro.

            2. You can hear a door closing or a
similar sound about one second before
BMS begins...I don't think that was
                intended to be there.

Otherwise, the album isn't that bad production wise
on headphones. New Millennium, Hell's Kitchen, LitS,
and JLMB sound excellent with their mixing - especially
    in NM from 3:35 - 4:02.

Alright - I have to run to my Shakespeare class now.
We're doing Hamlet and I have to write a paper on it
for Monday...I think some PMU is in need.

    Laters,
    Bogie

And the "You Not Me" intro reminds me of Stone Temple Pilot's "Wicked Garden."

On the 3-song promo I have, the disc print is similar to the FII cover, but
the binocular line is the mobius, somewhat similar to the actual FII disc.
I think that confirms your observation.

    > ..and this is bad because?

Well, if you want me to explain, ok. First off I meant to write obscure,
but I was eating Taco Bell. And I didn't want to drop any of the fire
sauce in the k/b. :) I choose the word obscure on purpose, too. Because,
it can be taken two ways(no, I'm not making fun of your other post about
the sea & other bs related topics).

First, obscure because it's pretty hard to find a web site that covers a
bunch of styles(with quality reviews). The jam suits my(and everyone
else's) needs for reviews perfectly. Not only do you get people who will
give you their opinion. But other people will post their opinions. They
also post what album is easiest to get into for a first time listener.
]From this I can get a good idea what an album(or even band) sounds like,
and which album to buy & not to buy.

The other way to take obscure is, that I don't know how to gauge my
tastes to this music "critic's." But on the jam I know (generally) how
I compare with the "big mouths." For example, if a known light
progressive music listener says, that the new Strapping Young Lad sucks.
I know that I can laugh it off, and I'll go blast All Hail The New
Flesh! :) Not because I don't like light progressive music(I do like
light prog though), but because they're coming from a totally different
place than I am(music-wise). After 1600 odd jams I know how to guage my
tastes to most of the list.

    > > And that you don't want people asking the jam.

    > ..for things they can easily find on the web...

Go type 'funky progressive death metal' in a search engine. You'll see
    what I mean.

    ---
As I type this, there are many unread jams in my mail box. A lot have
something to do with DT(in one way or another). So, I want to follow
    suit.

FII is good overall. I haven't heard the whole thing enough to make a good review, yet. But I must say I like JLB's vocals a lot. Whatever he did was perfect. I can't find fault with it. Usually when I pick up a DT album for the first time, I try not to listen to the vocals. But, JLB is the man on this album! No more assholes jokes from me. (at least till my next post ;) There's a part in Peruvian Skies. It's that "hear the way it ends" part. He sounds like (to me, at least) Dave Musteinse...Oh, that guy from Megadeth! :) JLB sounds like he is snarling, but he isn't. I think JLB has made the most improvement on this disc. I think he's really opened up on this disc. Well anyway, I'll point out more of these, when I do a real review of the album, this weekend.

Also, I want to say this to all you people who think that <something doing with FII> sounds/looks/smells/tastes/feels like grunge/alternative/sell-out-ish to point out ONE thing, and back it up with facts. Not so easy, huh? :-P

I hope everyone loves reading all these posts as much as I do!

All I can say is: at first I was disappointed cause I was expecting to hear something different than I did. Yeah, the time changes are largely void (and as a drummer I LOVE those complex rhythms), but they've introduced some new styles which totally make this album awesome.

I've been trying to think of how Portnoy's drums sounds and styles have evolved somewhat. He plays many of the familiar old double bass and fills, but I also strongly detect some Neil Peart (newer Neil style), and yes, Dave Weckl!! I remember some comments we had about how Dave could probably drum Mike under the table. Well, I here some Weckl sounds, especially in Lines in the Sand and Trial of Tears, when Portnoy plays more "latin" type beats. Also, when he plays the china on the downbeats, the rhythms resemble a Weckl style. So, they're incorporating some jazz into their music....Cool!

I cannot yet put a finger on who they seem to sound like in their funkier 4/4 songs. It's nothing like old DT, but somewhat reminiscent of HitNF (Queensryche) and especially Extreme's Pornograffitti. But, there's still seom other sounds in it that I cant put a finger on yet.....

It's a sizzlin' CD though. After a few listens is when I really started enjoying it.....

Since you are doing business on the 'net, you know that properly targeting your advertising messages can be pretty tough. And banner ads are still way too expensive

Instead of paying for "impressions" to a general audience, wouldn't you rather know that you sent your message directly to the appropriate audience?

US World News & Reports came out with an article on Monday May 12, 1997 finding that "70% of Internet users don't mind receiving commercial email messages - as long as they are targeted to their personal interests"

I found that you are doing business on the net by using "Extractor PRO" commercial email software. You, too, can send commercial e-mail to those who are interested in what you have to offer, whatever it is - and it's so inexpensive!

Once you own the software, you can build your very own Highly Targeted Mailing List, then send your ad out to your targeted mailing list at the push of a button.

"You may never have to pay for other forms of advertising again!"

"HotWired" Magazine says, "Extractor Pro simplifies the process of gathering and managing email addresses from AOL, Usenet, mailing lists, and other public sources." Feb. 11, 1997

Extractor PRO is loaded with targeting power, high-speed, a user-friendly feel, Online Wizards, Smart Help and Awesome Video Training via "CyberSchool". No other commercial email software is as easy to use and understand. Extractor PRO really makes advertising economical.

Just check out the website - you'll be impressed! Actually, a Möbius loop (strip? continuum?) is not only infinite. It is created by a paper strip. Twist it half a lap, and then attach its two ends to each other. This way you will be able to run a pencil on both sides of the paper without ever crossing the edge of it. Wasn't Möbius a German mathematician?

    > What's up with James? First of all, somebody should tell the producer > that it helps to have the microphone in the _same_ room as the performer. > Some songs sound like he's being recorded through a wall or something.

Couldn't agree more! James is mixed way too low almost throughout the entire album, and it does sound as if he's holding back on some songs. And the worst thing about it is that it probably isn't even his fault. Also, I don't think the vocal melodies have the same high standards they used to, which was one of the reasons DT became my favorite band. And I really miss the great atmosphere that was on Awake. No, I wasn't expecting Awake II (but you can always dream, right?) And don't give me that crap about "well, you know, they are a progressive band so they have to progress". Progressive is a musical style which doesn't really have much to do with how a certain band is evolving. And if they evolve into something more mainstream, this can hardly be called progressive, can it? Still, though I'm slightly let down by FII, it is still the best album to hit the market in a long time, and after a few months of listening to it - who knows? Maybe it will even top Awake.

Ooops, sorry. Guess I got a little carried away there :-)

Oh, one more thing: does putting New Millennium on this album mean that we'll have to wait until the new millennium for the next album?

I hold you here, root and all, in my hand, Little flower - but if I could understand What you are, root and all, and all in all, I should know what God and man is.
