You Not Me doesn't belong on this record. If it's on Awake, it's
one of the best tunes on the record. On FII, it sounds distinctly foreign.
I think this detracts from the listener's impression of it. When I heard
it alone as an MP3, it was great, and it stood alone... and I actually
figured most of FII would sound a lot like it. Whereas we now know the
opposite to be true. Desmond or no Desmond, it's a great "fast" tune.
After repeated listens to all of FII over and over again, I'm a
little tired of Burning My Soul.
After those same repeated listens, "Take Away My Pain" seems the
best written of the crop, and is probably one of the most enjoyable to
listen to. The studio precision makes all the difference: the live
performances of TAMP aren't anything special.

Go Mesa, and there's no going back. Don't waste your money on pedals,
they're toys. I gave up my old Korg, Boss, and DOD pedals for a rack
system quite a while back, and I'm very happy with my decision :)

You maybe don't know, but I saw it on his workshop here in Brazil: he has
a new mechanism from Tama on his snare that gives him the possibility to
change the snare tension with his foot. There is a pedal, if he pushes it,
the snare goes off, if he releases the snare goes on. He can use the middle
term too (hope you can understand what I mean).
Maybe that's it... maybe not...

Well, it's one-SIDED, not one-dimensional. It's a one-sided, two-

Spontaneous comment:
I'm really swept away by the way JP managed to write a
song dedicted to his late father using sort of an
"upbeat" style of music to deal with the painful subject
of his fathers death. I love the lyrics, and the intro
rhythms are like walking on air. I love this CD more and
more every day!
I've finally gotten into the New Millenium "groove" and starting
really dig it, and I absolutely LOVE Lines in the Sand!!!!!!
I feel bad for the few of you out there who aren't getting as much
out of this CD as I am....try listening to it alone and maybe read
the lyrics. You start to see or hear the musical distinctions that
make the songs unique....man there is some cool shit here!!

I'm sure I'm gonna get some arguments on this, but why do you guys think
APSOG is a single song? I know the band said it was, but it's not. It's a
f00kin concept album. I'm sure that on their next tour they will play
parts of APSOG and not all of it (much like Queensryche did on the
Promised Land tour and others). If it really was one song, they'd have to
play all parts of it. What band plays part of a song and leaves the rest
out? So if it really is considered one song, they'd be playing only a part
of the song on future tours. That's like Dream Theater playing the
instrumental section of metropolis and leaving the rest out. Get my point.

I think what MP was trying to say was that these guys were used. It's
not that they are dead. It's not because they aren't "talented." It's
about how they were used as an image. Just like some glam rockers in the
80's were used as images(it happens in every time period though). The
song is more about the big wigs, than any one over-dosed singer from the
early 90's.

Maybe it was his decision. I have read a few of the articles about DT in the studio. A few things caught my attention. JP said that he had his wall of Mesa's to get all the different tones on FII. He did not want to use one tone throughout the album. JP also said that the shorter more focused songs are harder to write than songs like Metropolis Pt. 1, because the band can't go into left field. He said that they tried to write shorter songs during Awake, but they did not work out.
If you read Metal Edge, you know that they ask the musicians featured in the magazine a silly question on the last few pages. This months question was- "How did you meet your wife?" DS's was the funniest. He said something like- I'm still looking. Send all inquiries to Elektra.

Ya know, I have no idea of what's going on in the list, I've just been skipping everything lately... =)
Now, after a few listens to FII, I must say... It rocks!!! I still don't like the sounding ("You not Me" sounds awful IMHO), speaking in terms of production. But the CD is awesome, it really rocks: heavy guitars all over, Derek's keyboard style is quite different that Kevins, and adds a whole new taste to their music, and, hell, I love that, the bass is loud, you can hear it clearly (does the intro to "Burning my Soul" rocks or what?)!!! My faves are Burning my Soul, New Millenium (although I thing that, after the vocals begin, the song does not become so cool... but that intro kicks ass), Lines in the Sand (fast nads-rocking groove! =) I'm starting to like Doug's additions to the vocals ), and Trial of Tears.
I don't have much to say, maybe if I had been reading the jams I had some opinions to give, but...
Now listening to "Lines in the Sand", trying not to blow up my speakers. =)

Ok..but its different from APSOG and O:M, since besides maybe track II and VI of apsog are the only ones that can be played apart and still make a lot of sense.. (im not writing well..but i guess you know what i mean) and the songs from O:M stood for themselves each and every one of them.. on APSOG most trax *need* the others .... they could still do what dt did at the Fix shows..with aCos..incorporate the bits and pieces of the song with the other stuff...
