The characteristic I like most about DT is their versatility. How many
other bands can make Only a Matter of Time, Metropolis Pt. 1, Wait For
Sleep, Another Day, The Mirror/Lie, The Silent Man, Space Dye Vest, A
Change of Seasons, You Not Me, Hollow Years, Anna Lee, Take Away My Pain
and Lines in the Sand over the course of five albums? DT may have cut
downon the crazy instrumental sections and wild solos but those did not
make them unique. Many other bands can *play* as well as DT, but not
many can *write* a powerful song like DT.

This is just a quick poll to find out who would be in favor of a YtseCon in California. Since nobody else wants to plan one, I wouldn't mind doing it if I thought people would show up.

If any of you are interested, please email me privately at charone@arastar.com

I figure even if none of the east coast jammers could make it, there have got to be enough west coasters lurking out there, right? I think it should be fun.

Hair Is" would be right. HAIR'S is a posessive as in > "My HAIR's oder is quite fragrant" > HAIRS is just plural of HAIR.

Um, to be totally accurate, "hair's" is also a contraction of the words "hair is." So, actually, "hair's" would be more correct here than "hairs," since in the sentence "you ask me why my hairs gray," gray would be the verb. It's obvious, though, that the intended verb is "is," because that other form is aqkward as hell - gramatically correct, yes, but no one talks like that. Hence "why my hair's gray."

I forget, Christopher, that I am not as up to date as you are. I am truly sorry for wasting your time......do you see the sarcasm yet? OK, dickhead, let's get the rules of the list straight.

First of all, there's a FAQ. You're supposed to read it *before* you post *anything* to the list. Have you read it? Apparently not.

    > I forget, Christopher, that I am not as up to date as you are.

Of course not. You haven't read the FAQ. I spend what little free time I have updating the FAQ when I can so that a) you can find answers to all sorts of questions like yours, and b) so that the rest of the list members don't have to wade through your bullshit questions.

Excuse me for taking personal offense to your stupid ass question. Your welcome message told you to read the FAQ because I have spent the time keeping it in tact. Ignore my effort, and I get pissed.

    > I am truly sorry for wasting your time......do you see the sarcasm > yet? I came on here to share my opinions, and ask questions when they came up. > My questions, or the questions of others are not "stupid ass questions" and > they do not deserve to be deemed as such. I can't believe you have the

Most people's questions aren't stupid ass questions. I enjoy reading most people's questions. Most people don't rehash questions that have already been discussed to death and put in the FAQ. Most people's questions challenge us to think about Dream Theater's music in new ways. You, however, asked a stupid ass question. You broke the rules of the list, and I called you on it. Deal with it.

    > audacity to come on the web and pick fights with people who are trying to > talk to people about Dream Theater.

Actually, I didn't go onto the web to pick a fight. You came onto a mailing list and broke the rules. I got upset, and then you picked a fight.

    > Why don't you just take your insignificant > little complaints and shove them up your ass! I have no use for immature > little worms like you Christopher. Thank you for your time.

And thank you for thinking rationally about your response, rather than assuming you were right and flying off the handle at me, attacking me personally rather than debating the issue at hand. Pick an issue, pal. It's not worth your time arguing over this. Read the FAQ, and then I invite you to post again when you have a new insight into something. But if all you're going to do is flame people and ask FAQs, then you ought to find a new batch of people to piss off.

Christopher was only pointing out that the question you asked is answered (prominently I may add...took me 5 seconds to find it) in the FAQ. By checking with the FAQ first, it cuts down some on the traffic that ends up on this list (which is already quite high right now, with FII having been just released).

When people don't read the FAQ first, the same questions get posted over and over again (i.e., "What's the line from Hamlet.....").

I mentioned this briefly in passing on the amdt group, but I'm working on "cracking" the concept of FII so as to make it the focus of my upcoming annual Thoughts post. I welcome serious perspectives on this album now as they may help me past a part that I cannot deduce, understand, or thematically connect. Man, why am I even the one doing it... right-brained people are FAR better at interconnective themes. Left-brainers like me should just be tabbing it out and that's it. ;)

    Hi all

after all the posts objecting to the use of words like 'fuck' or 'shit' either in the Dream Theater lyrics or on the jam, it's now my turn to ask you to exercise a little self-restaint and refrain from using one particular word that unfortunately seems to be coming into fashion on the Jam.

The word I am referring to is the abbreviation commonly used when mentioning the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, or to put it in simple terms - nazi.

This is not a word to be played with and bandied around like asshole or butt-munch. This word is a painful word for most people in Germany (after 17 years here I almost consider myself to be German) as well as in countries like Israel, Russia and Poland. I find it truely offensive and obscene to use this word in jest. I don't know if there are any coloured people on the list, but you wouldn't go and call them niggers, would you? Please think before you use this word again.

Hate mail about this subject is welcome, but keep it off the Jam.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: The Gathering - Nighttime Birds

There you have it! Elton John and Bjork are SCREWED, they have no say against the mighty Dream Theater and its large, loyal and groovin' Finnish fan base :)

Besides, the album was on sale around Finland on Friday, so the sales of the first 2 days (Friday and Saturday), AFAIK, didn't even add to DT's total.

I'd like to hear news of DT's performance in other countries as well.. Sorry if my cut-and-paste piece is a bit lengthy, I thought some people might be interested in seeing the context as well, ie. who was DT 'competing against', and not just their chart position.

And one last thought before I go: Seeing that YNM has by far the most spelling mistakes, and it's the only song with lyrics (co-)written by a non-bandmember, should we assume that Desmond Child is dyslexic?

    That's all, DT rocks forevaaah.

New subscribers receive a welcome message. It's a little dated, but it still has all the basic info. Included is an old link to the FAQ, which points to the new link to the FAQ. Also included, if memory serves me correctly, is a list of taboo topics, such as Metallica selling out, religion, etc etc... And it says that posters should be familiar with all this stuff before posting. And, by and large, when people respect this meager amount of rules, everyone gets more out of the list.

    > BTW, are old jams archived?

Yup. I think there are archive instructions in the FAQ. If not, they're in that intro message.
