I'm showing my age here, but Cheap Trick was BIG when
I was in High school. And Bun E. Carlos could lay down one
hell of a foundation. And get this, they are still around!
Where the hell is Boston, Styx, Heart, REO Speedwagon,
Kansas, The Cars, and so on?
Sure, its late 70s hard rock/pop, but that's what some of us
used to listen to. Well I was kind of a closet YES and Rush
fan, along with other 70s prog, But I still had exposure to this
stuff from the radio. Cheap Trick has always loved to play
live, you can see it in the presentation. And yes, they still have
Bun E. banging the skins, Rick Neilson still plays the goofy
guitars, Tom Petersson on bass, and Robin Zander on vox.
He still sounds the same. If you are so inclined, you can look
and listen to a archived show from late last year at live concerts.com.
Here is the URL
http://www.liveconcerts.com/listening/concerts/970922/Cheap_Trick/
I hope you have the Real Player 5.0 plug in, and a 33.6 or better modem.
Nobody flame me for listening to this ancient pop rock,
I did get better with treatment. (hehe) You see its like
this: DT = Cool. DT is ALs favorite band. Therefore
AL = Cool. well maybe. Maybe AL need to dig out his
vinyl copy of Lucifers Friend and listen to it at 78 RPM.
Then smoke enough rope to bake his brain enough to make
even Hanson sound *Cool.* Wait a minute, They would have
to deliver that much hooch on a pallet. Will Hansons label pay
for this? Huh. Puff Daddy? I know what I will do,
Im gonna dig out my old Atomic Rooster album, Place it on my custom
Revox limited addition Minister series turntable (so I can play it backwards)
Grow tusks out of my butt cheeks, and breathe fire from my schvinkter.
Where is Jim Baker when I need him? gooniegoogoo. Toodles!
One final word. DT & DP are gonna rock big time, John Lord is an animal.
See ya, AL...

Hiya dudes and dudettes,
Just wanted to say anyone who hasn't picked themselves up a copy of the
Jap HY single should do so. It's might set ya back a bit for a single
(it cost me $25 AUS.), but how many CD singles have the following ?;
Hollow Years (Radio Edit) 4:16
Hollow Years (LP version) 5:55
You Or Me (Demo) 6:25
The Way It Used To Be 7:47
Burning My Soul (Live) 8:19
Another Hand/The Killing Hand (Live) 13:27
I know that the tracklist has been posted before, but check out the
times! That comes to 46:09 altogether - virtually a full length album!
Funny thing is, is that it's a *HY* single, but HY is probably the least
interesting part of it. TWIUTB is brilliant of course, but BMS and
AH/TKH are the best part of the CD. BMS (with Hell's Kitchen bits in it)
is excellent - it then segues straight into AH/TKH. IMHO this one is
better than the LatM version. I won't go into anymore detail, just find
out for yourself!
Soo-Poyb disc man!

Allen sounds brilliant.

Yeah, cheesy looking, but they actually made some very high quality guitars in
addition to the absolute crap that all guitar companies are forced to make these days.

Hi all
no, don't panic, this time the review isn't by me, although I agree with a lot
of what this guy writes. Just point the browser of your choice (LYNX rules)
to the following address and read on McDuff...
http://www.dailyvault.com/3_10_98.html
Also, all of you considering cutting off your nads in order to petition the band
to do this, that or the other should read the 'confession' at the following
address before continuing with your projects:
http://www.bme.freeq.com/extreme/free/nullo/burdcast.html
Now I know why so many guys in bands sing with high voices...
stay safe and happy listening

Hey there Jammers,
I must admit to being one of the silent majority usually but I thought i'd
share this wee story with you all.
As far as DT goes I own all the 'standard' albums and a couple of singles,
DTIFC etc.....so this weekend I popped along to Oxford to do some shopping.
There just happened to be a pretty big CD/Record fair going on so i thought
it would be rude not to go and check it out.
At stall no 2 I find a I&W on tape in perfect as-new condition (great for
my non-CD car) this cost me ?2.50 !!!!! COOL
anyway I thought this was going to be the high point as 25 stalls later I
had nothing else until.......I stumbled upon Dream Theater 'Guitar Talkin'
Acoustic & Clinic' for ?10. As I mentioned I'm a bit of a boot virgin so I
was very impressed with this Kobra produced package with full colour insert
and songs like RTK, Lost Without You, Where are you Now and acoustic
beauties like WFS, LSOAD,LTL etc A FULL 79 MINUTES.
OK so to cut to the chase if anybody out there wants a good quality tape
copy of this I'll gladly trade for any good quality taped boots in return
to get my collection off to a flying start. As you can see I want to make
nothing out of this except spread my general good feelings to mankind in
general ( us Brits are a mis-understood race you know)
If you could drop me an e-mail before posting anything so I dont double up
on anything.........
Cheers
Steve A

Yeah, they suck!
Again the Rockies get screwed! And they're even getting regular

them. And we still don't deserve them :< So I guess I'm supposed to
feel privileged that I got to see them 4 YEARS ago. Sorry, for the

2) saying what you mean the first time

Hmm...if I remember correctly you didn't mention anything about
"welcoming" new Metallica discussion, you practically said the guy should
be neutered, tarred, and feathered for simply bringing them up in the
first place (see #2 above)...

Hi there progsters
Due to much work at the University I hadn't got the time to read
much of the latest digests. I started just a few minutes ago catching
up, and found the tour dates by MIKE P. (GOD in DRUMS), and I was
really blast. I couldn't believe what I was reading. DREAM THEATER in
GREECE in June 14. That' s far the best news I had in months. Gee I'm
really excited, I can't wait for the day to come. Man I'm gonna have a
stroke. YES!!!! YES!!!! YES!!!!
I'd better get hold of myself.... wooooow, I don't think I can, It's
so fucking great, I will finally see DT live. Please somebody stop
me......I'm really getting insane.
By the way has anyone heard a band called Ivanoe!? and if anyone from
Greece is on ytsejam, please step forward I wanna hear from you.
(the bad thing is that I still haven't found LTE)

I'm going to assume that 1) being Australian, you write your dates "backwards"
and meant October 12th, 1996, and that 2) the boot manufacturer just has the
date wrong. The opening show of Rush's TFE tour was October 19th, 1996, at
the Knick in Albany. It was an incredible show to be at, because it was the
first time they'd played out in a few years. There were the usual couple of
first show blunders, but this is also one of the only, if not *the* only, time
they played Time And Motion (as heard on Bahr's "Virtual Songs").
BTW, if you want to save money on the CD, I have an awesome cassette of the
show (1st gen from an Audience DAT) that I'd be willing to trade. (It even
sounds better than "Virtual Songs.")

No DTC, but then again, this is a recommendation, so recommending
DT on here would be kinda stupid anyway, but I digress.....
If anyone, and I mean *ANYONE*, regardless of age or whatever,
has a chance to see Henry Rollins do a spoken word performance,
DEFINITELY GO!!!!!! Don't question it, don't do anything - just
pick up the phone and get a ticket.
I saw him on Saturday night at a small theater (approx 500 people)
in Morristown, NJ, and I am still reeling from it. Easily one
of the best live "performance" thingies that I have even been to.
If you don't go, you will seriously miss out on a great time.
That, combined with the fact that he comes around areas very
infrequently (every 1-2 years or so) is more the reason to check
him out. If you are disappointed, the E-mail me and *I* will
personally refund your money....maybe.

Yeah, for most tour shirts, I might say something in passing to the guy or
girl, if I'm walking by them. But only for DT would I actually change
direction and *follow* the shirt wearer. The one time in my life I saw
someone wearing a DT shirt outside a concert was at a petfood store near
my house. And I *did* change direction and go up to her and point it out.
The funny thing is that it turned out to be Mrs. Portnoy.
And come to think of it I did see her again at the vanderbilt concert in
january. Hey mike, say hi to your wife from the petfood guy from nanuet!

it depends on the club owner, and the band. some bands ive heard shouldnt
even be playing at all, much less toasted. theres a local band here (probably
the most popular and well paid band in dayton) that gets paid a VERY nice
chunk of cash and 2 cases of beer everytime they play. the majority of club
owners, at least in this town, only care about their cash register ringing and
could care less what the band is doing as long as they are playing and people
are having a good time and not leaving. i know one drummer who lives 24/7 in
a semi drunken state that is always perfect when playing, i know another who
in that same state enjoys throwing bottles at guys (including club owners) for
looking at his girlfriend. you have to know what you personally can handle
and still perform as a professional. someone is paying you to play, i agree
its a job. i personally dont like playing totally fucked up, i dont feel in
control of what im singing. im not even a drinker, although now im sure i
sound like a total raging alcoholic.
