Two recent music-related deaths I haven't yet seen anybody post about:

    - one of the fellows from Milli Vanilli (dunno which -- apparently it was a
    pill and alcohol situation)
    - Cozy Powell of all manner of bands (ELPowell, Jimmy Page's band,
    Malmsteen I think... car accident)

    No further comment.

Hell yeah, let's do it. Fitz's or BH would be a nice, central
location (good record shop nearby, too :). Man, I was just down
there the other night. Anyway, there are a number of places that
would be good (for all ages :) to gather before/after the show.
Get in contact with me or anyone else from the area and we'll get

    Hi...

Any Southern California jammers out there who could tell me about how it
    is to see DT at
The Galaxy (Or whatever it's called) or the House O' Blues. Hopefully,
    I'll get to see them
    there in May.

About a two weeks ago I discovered the following site www.hardradio.com I am sure many of you already know about it, but for those of you who don't: It provides a track list (including LTE and Savatage's TWoM) as well as LIVE STREAMING Real Radio. It also has mp3, but I can't seem to get that to work, and yes I have WinAmp. It just downloads a file that I can't figure out how to use. Perhaps someone can help me figure this out. I never claimed to be a computer genius.

What I am also interested in is other internet radio programs that offer a selection of prog, metal, or hard rock. Real radio sucks (and I am in Southern California where their seems to be an assumption that it is some sort of metal promise land. Not from what I have seen.). Okay, please take the time to post to the jam any other live streaming audio internet sites. I see the D-Man post some very happening play lists, but I am assuming that is a local radio station, not internet radio. Am I wrong?

    Hello jammers!

I have a couple dinaros saved and I though I`d buy myself a 6string bass for experimental purposes(I`m guitarist btw) . I won`t pay 2 grand for 6 string Yamaha, instead I`ll have it built custom at a luthier who will make this bass at a very reasonable price for me (he makes astonishing basses). So basicly all I need are the specifications of the bass. Does anyone know the specifications of Myung`s basses? I`m also wondering what kind of pickups/electronics does he use and how much does it costs? String gauges? Wood? Hardware? And what is the main difference between Tung bass Myung used before and Yamaha he uses now? Is Peavey Minx (30 Watt) a decent bass amp?

Okay, I`m full of questions today..thank you in advance for all the answers!!

Aww man, I'm sorry to hear about that. Rainbow was one the first metal bands I really got into. His drumming on Rainbow Rising was just vicious, it really made part of the early Rainbow sound along with Dio's vocals.

    Hi,

well, I guess everbody saw the list of new tour dates posted by Mike, and after the Netherlands were skipped so far in this part of the tour, I was very pleased to see that DT will play in the netherlands this time. But the show will be a " "special" fan club gig". What will this mean. I know from a friend about a special fan club concert by Marillion in Utrecht a while ago, where the played only special songs, i.e. songs normally not played live. I guess all dutch fans already saw DT in Den Bosch during the "scratching the surface" tour late 1997 and everybody (I guess) saw at least one show of the pre-FII tour (3 of them). The last show during this tour, DT already played (I believe) TOT for the first time because (as James said) everyone already had seen DT already the night before.

What can we expect?? Just the normal show of this tour, but only tickets are avalaible through the fan club or will it really be a special concert. The first thing that comes to my mind may be playing some songs never played live before (I don't know which songs.... are there any songs never played live before??) or they will play some new songs (Metropolis II......??? hope hope). Well these are just my wildest dreams.....

About the free promo tape of Empty Tremor. Get it!!

I just bought their album Apocolokyntosys and I can only say one thing: great. If you're still waiting for the follow up of I&A: get this CD (or tape) immediately. They surely are infuenced by DT (thanks to Mike and DT in the liner notes). Due to a lack of time I have not listened the whole CD, and I start at the beginning every time because the first three songs are just awesome (worth the price of the whole album). I believe the band still has to grow as every band has to (just look at the difference between the first and second album of DT), but this album is already quite mature (especially for a band averaging 16 years).

Other CD's in my CD player:

-APSOG:Fates Warning (17 april live in Tilburg, I'll be there) -tDWOT: Symphony X (time to buy their latest album, I guess) -LTE: LTE (enough said) -night time birds: the Gathering (currently touring Europe, check them out: www.gathering.nl, they will also play monsters of Rock, Italy with e.g. DT) -everything of DT and Rush.

Ok, I guess I was a little vague there, what I meant was it didn't really sound like any other DT 'song.' I wasn't referring to the mix of JP/MP but more the actual sounds, the musical content itself, not whether it was identifyable as JP/MP on their respective instruments. I actually recognize all of them. Rudess's patches are undeniably Jordan :) I guess you could say that about many musicians. They all have their own signature sound.

Please point me in the direction of a song on a DT album that sounds familiar. I just don't hear it to that extent.

I'll agree with you that at times it's tough to hear the other musicians, probably Levin more than Rudess. But at other times the mix is just right. Considering Shirley produced DT, it doesn't surpirse me why he mixed them a little higher, though. He fucking loves 'em :)

In any event, I think it's a great disc, and I hope the concept of 'supergroup jams' stays around longer than the reviewer's prediction of doom.

Go back and check out Rudess' mix on TMW. Sounds ok to me :)
