Myung's Yamaha is a shorter-scale bass (to make it easier for the little guy
to play - he's got small hands), with, I believe, active electronics and no
markers. 'Bass Player Magazine' had an article on his rig the other month; I
might still have it and can dig it out for you - it's got all the pertinent
information like scale length, wood type, etc. But what I *do* know is that
it's going to be cheaper than most of the other Yamaha basses - Myung
specifically wanted to create a good, playable, and most importantly
AFFORDABLE bass. So it'll only be about a grand, which isn't all that bad
    for a signature series bass.

As far as the Peavey Minx goes - if you're thinking of getting a
custom-built bass, then get an amp to go along with it. Don't bother with a
little guy like the Peavey unless you're only going to use it to play in
your room. If you want something for practice, then it's fine, but if you
want something that you can play out with, then get something serious:
either go SWR or Eden, in my opinion. You can get combo amps from both of
those companies that will knock you right on your ass. Or, if you REALLY
have the money, get a stack (like me!). But, again, if you just need a
little practice amp, then Minx is fine. Just don't use it for playing out.
    :)

I'm sure Mike Bahr would agree.

    *sarcasm on*
Hmm, so I've already got an Ibanez RG, and I suppose I should just trade in my
current Marshall and buy a Mesa. Well screw developing my own signature tone, I'll
just copy off Petrucci!! Hey, I've already got a Dunlop wah also, so what were those
picks again!? And most importantly, what color!? *sarcasm off*

In all seriousness, I currently own a Marshall. So sue me, but I am quite fond of
the tone I am developing with the Ibanez played through the British amp. I've never
really played on a Mesa, so here's my question, what are the differences? I know that
Mesa has about 20 channels on every amp (ok, maybe that's an overshot); but other than
that, I'm pretty much oblivious to their tone. I know that Hammett (there's that word
again!) and Petrucci both use them also, and both seem to have some descent tone going
on. So can anyone explain or discuss this in a somewhat serious manner?

Comparisons cannot be made IMHO between these two amps. Some people like the Marshall sound better than the Mesa/Boogie sound. I actually went head shopping today. I didn't like the Dual Rectifier. I much preferred the Slash sig. model Marshall. It's a matter of taste. Not which is better.

    Hello Fellow Jammers,

Before you erase this message, we would like to present our new little endeavor created exclusively for and by the fans of the only music that really counts. Get the hint? If not, let us explain.

Open All Night Records was created earlier last year to spread the music we infinitely admire to people like us. To be exactly precise, we are talking here about live performances recorded by ourselves mostly here in France.

The main idea for the whole thing originated from our general dislike of the quality of the rare bootlegs of our favorite bands that we were able to find around here. Therefore, we have strained our bank accounts a bit ( a lot to be precise ), and =AB armed =BB ourselves with the digital equipment, which permitted us to enjoy the recording quality we could have hardly dream about before ( lets face it: even the quality of Japanese bootlegs generally sucks, and these are more or less the only ones we could find in case of most bands). However, the excellent quality was not enough, since the idea of putting it to a conventional tape was rather uninspiring to say the least. Therefore we have undertaken some additional major investments which enabled us to produce our own CD-Rs as well as high-quality artwork designs. All in all, it took about six months to get the whole thing rolling, and it is our uttermost pleasure to present you our very first project.

Since we are not familiar with you, we decided rather than putting out a complete show right away, to offer you instead a compilation CD with the extracts of all of the shows currently available. This is primarily done to introduce you to the quality of our production, as well as to give you a hint as to what types of bands really make us tick.

Following are the details of our first project: =AB OPEN ALL NIGHT RECORD= S PRESENTS - INTO THE GREAT UNKNOWN =BB.

    1. Dream Theater =AB Under a Glass Moon =BB 2. Dream Theater =AB Peruvian Skies =BB Above tracks recorded live at Bataclan, Paris, France on February 24, 1998 3. Megadeth =AB Angry Again =BB 4. Megadeth =AB Mechanix =BB Trax 3&4 recorded live at le Zenith, Paris on October 24, 1997 5. Savatage =AB The Wake of Magellan =BB 6. Savatage =AB Dead Winter Dead =BB Trax 5&6 recorded live at la Locomotive, Paris on November 12, 1997 7. Paradise Lost =AB Disappear =BB 8. Paradise Lost =AB Embers Fire =BB Above tracks recorded live at la Cigalle, Paris on October 2, 1997 9. Vanden Plas =AB Rainmaker =BB Recorded live at Bataclan, Paris on February 24, 1998 10. Vanden Plas =AB Father =BB (acoustic version) Recorded live at FNAC, Noisy-le-Grand, France on October 4, 1997 11. GAMMA RAY =AB Valley of the Kings =BB Recorded live at la Locomotive, Paris on October 8, 1997 12. Hammerfall =AB Dragon Lies Bleeding =BB Recorded live at la Locomotive, Paris on October 8, 1997 13. Royal Hunt =AB Stranded =BB (acoustic version) Recorded live at FNAC Montparnasse, Paris on September 8, 1997.

This CD will be made available in two formats:

    - Format One will include complete full-color artwork, gloss paper, labeled CD etc. The price will be USD 9 ( Europe ) and USD 10 ( for North America and Japan ). Residents of the rest of the world please contact us for more details on prices and shipment.

    - Format Two will include nothing but the generic CD-R with the recording and a printed out set-list. This would be handy if you are only interested in the recording itself. The price will be USD 5 (Europe) and USD 6 ( Rest of the world).

PLEASE NOTE that we will be losing money on each Format 1 CD, and it will therefore be an exceptional case having as its goal the creation of a stable and fruitful relationship between you and OPEN ALL NIGHT Records. And remember: with OAN, THE QUALITY COUNTS.

OAN=92s first regular release will be: =AB SAVATAGE: THE AGE OF DISCOVERY =BB 2CD-R set recorded live at la Locomotive, Paris, France on November 12, 1997.

TAKE CARE AND WE COUNT ON HEARING FROM YOU ASAP, LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING, FELIX AND VOLODYA of OPEN ALL NIGHT RECORDS.

P.S. Please note that =AB Into The Great Unknown =BB will be the only non-limited edition CD-R due to its introductory nature. All future releases will be strictly limited.

P.P.S. Feel free to contact us at the following addresses: Volodya: provibe@club-internet.fr Felix: kingofswing@hol.fr.

Hmmmm....well, maybe it was someone else who made the original post to which I'm referring. Some guy posted something about Metallica and then someone basically said he should be force fed broken glass for mentioning them in here. That's the person I was referring to; if it wasn't you, I apologize. I assume it must not have been you, because I don't think anyone in here would be stupid enough to say, "I didn't object to them being brought up" after authoring the original post in question. So again, my apologies. I'll try to find that first post if I haven't deleted it; I'm curious now...
