some news, which might be interessting for the european jammers:
According to Marc Zonder, Fates Warning will play two sets every night
on their european tour. The first set contains the entire "Pleasant
Shade Of Gray"-CD, the second the following songs: "The Ivory Gate Of
Dreams", "The 11th Hour", "Point Of View", "Monument", "At Fates Hands"
(!!!!), "Prelude To Ruin" (!!!!!!!!!!) and "We Only Say Godbye".
Unfortunaly. "Guardian", "The Apparition", "Life In Still Water" are
missing, but you can't have everything.
Second guitarrist will be Bernie Versye, a former member of speed
metal-heroes Agent Steel (by the way, if someone wants to sell the
"Unspoppable Force"-CD, please let me know), who has also done some
leads on the last Steel Prophet CD. The keyboarder still has to be
named.

Well, I got my copy of the demo tape the other day, and I do think it is a good prog CD, but I think they sound _NOTHING_ like DT, so if you are expecting an I&W-like clone, forget it. I'd say my closest comparison might be something like Divine Regal blended w/ some Lemur Voice (and thats pushing it)...

Hey, I'm only guessing here. 1) I just saw a post by Derek Sherimean :) on the AOL Savatage message board that said - "Al Pitrelli rules".
2) The connection may also be strengthened by the fan base. It is almost a given that DT fans like Savatage and vice-versa. SO, I am sure that Savatage gets a lot of fan mail / email mentioning DT. Savatage can almost thank the DT message boards for the constant mentions of Savatage (free advertising).
I discovered Savatage when the "Hall of the Mountain King" video came out. I was full on into Savatage until I discovered DT (who else discovered DT because of a Guitar World review of IAW describing DT as a progressive fan's whet dream? How could you not run out and get it after hearing this?). Then I really got into DT and kind of stopped listening to Savatage. It wasn't until I went to MI when my roommate played Savatage all the time that I rediscovered them. In turn, I helped him discover DT. DT-Savatage: ya just can't separate them.
BTW - my favorite Savatage song is Hounds. Let's not start a thread on this because it is the DT board, but I just couldn't help myself. It is such an incredible song.

I've always felt that Dave sounded like Darkwing's Duck daughter, but since I can't remember her name, she was voiced by Christine Cavanaugh, who is Chuckie on Rugrats. Try this:

He was using Warwick basses through Eden amplification. Everything was crisp, and he and the drummer were really tight. I myself am an Ampeg man, but to each his own. And as far as Marshall vs. Mesa goes, close your eyes you can find all you need in your ears. I myself would get Mesa stuff if I could afford it, but that's gonna be a couple of years. Check out different brands of amps and both heads and combos. You'll be surprised at the results. Mesa is no friggin' guarantee! I played my buddy's JPM 100 the other day. It was nice, but the neck was a little thick for me, and the Peavey practice amp didn't do it justice. Has anyone seen, played, or bought the 90th Anniversary JPM yet? Chris Ptacek, I'm especially intersted in your evaluation. I know the Coltrane dead is beyond death, but I've been out of town a couple of times and I never got a chance to jump in. If you've got a lot of cash, check out the Heavyweight Champion boxed set on Atlantic. Giant Steps is in it. As far as Impulse goes, they're all good (hey I even like the material towards the end, I wrote a paper on it in my jazz class), but A Love Supreme is essential. Anybody know when the Myung Yamaha bass will hit stores?
