shoot me, if you will, but I'll jump on as well....quickly.

1.) Mike, if you want to stay on, then stay on.

2.) Everyone is entitled to their stand on the matter, and there
should definitely be talk about it, so that new Jammers who
are interested in buying Prism stuff for the first time are
aware of what could and has happened. But STRICTLY from
                the BUSINESS end only....

3.) Mike has every right to defend himself, especially if he
thinks the claims are unsubstantiated. Whether people
believe or not is a different story.

4.) If you don't like the waits, then don't buy his stuff. If
the wait doesn't bother you (like me), then continue to buy
his stuff, and keep it in the back of your mind that it is
possible that it may take a while.

5.) I personally don't think he's going to close shop, drop off
the face of the earth and screw hundreds of people of a lot
of money. But then again, you never know - I've met him and
talked to him in the past thru e-mail, and he doesn't seem
like that type of person. But then again, people thought
that Jeffrey Dahmer was a nice and quiet man.......so who
            the hell knows....... :)

                                                    -Al

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids

    <ANNOUNCER VOICE>
In this cornah, we have Mr. Bahr! Beset by slews of ordahs, dealing with
production costs, and attempting to defend himself from allegations about
    his business practices!!

Annnd, in this corner, we have the angry customers! Upset at the long
turnaround time, upset by broken promises, and wanting to get a fair shake!
    </ANNOUNCER VOICE>

Here's my take on the Bahr thing. Mike, as I see it you have two choices at
this point if you ever want to regain the respect of those you have angered:

    1) Close Prism Records. Accept no more disc orders, send payments back
where they came, and refund the payments of those still waiting for their
    discs.

    2) Continue with Prism Records and FIX THINGS.

By "FIX THINGS" I mean just that. Adam, who has been waiting over a year
for his order, and the ytsegoon, who just now got his PT after 18 months,
and Jack, who had his checks cashed as far back as January 1997, are
perfect examples. Stuff like this is inexcusable for any business. Jack, in
fact, has given up completely on ever seeing anything for the $175 he paid.
    What's wrong with this picture?

If you have backlogs, fine. Take care of them *before* taking in any new
orders. Send payments back where they come from with a form letter stating
that you aren't accepting any more orders until the backlog is caught up.
Put an announcement on your pages to the same effect. Make an announcement
on the jam. Then ship out the backlogged discs as fast as you can, with an
apology letter to anybody who's been waiting longer than two months. Sign
    each letter.

This sort of thing isn't just good business, it's being a class act. By not
taking any more orders, you'll show that you are trying to catch up on the
backlogs. By apologizing for the tremendous delays, you'll make your
customers feel that their business with you is welcome. And by not cashing
any more checks until the discs are *in the mail* to their purchaser,
you'll show that you're not just taking the money and running with it.

Speaking for myself, I ordered two discs (When Dream and Today Unite and
Scenes from a Memory) from Mike back in March 1997. Within about three
weeks I had them. That's good business. I also reserved a PT and a TDoW
back in November of 1997, but didn't send payment because I was low on cash
and at the time there were some rumblings about Mike's trustworthiness. I
am not sending the payment until Mike announces that he has caught up with
ALL discs and is accepting new orders again.

Am I being paranoid? Maybe. But after reading these horror stories, I'd be
very leery of sending in a check for two discs right now -- even though
I've had no problems with Mike in the past. The signs right now say that
his business is in trouble at present, although he says he is taking steps
    to fix it.

No, Mike, we don't want you out of here, exactly. We do wish you'd make
things right with those who've already had their checks cashed and have
nothing to show for it, and we wish that you wouldn't make promises you
don't keep (as with Adam, whom you promised would have his discs within a
    week back in November).

Difficulties happen, but true businessmen will take them in stride, do
whatever's necessary to fix the problem, and go on. Mike seems to be making
some efforts to do so, and I applaud him for that, but from all accounts he
has a ways to go yet.

    Ta,
    Phil

You post again in a seperate post, even after you acknowledged you knew

So, it looks like you're not only a bad trader, but a bad listener as
well. Are you simply doing it to find out if you'll get a reaction?
Here's a suggestion for you and others who suffer from this apparent
    lack of follow through:

Leave your mail window up on the screen. Leave it up there. Leave it up.
Leave it! Just leave it there! Fucking LEAVE IT THERE! (HEHEEHEH) You
hit that send button, I'm gonna have ta hurt ya! You know women
appreciate a guy with control (shaddup, Pat, I can hear the wheels
turning from here :), so ease up on the Send button!

NOW, go back and read some more jam shit. Now, go back to the mail
window and comment some more as I know you will, because there's usually
more than one thing on the jam that interests you :)

/me DOES NOT HIT THE SEND KEY AT THIS POINT, AS MUCH AS HE JUST CAN'T
    *WAIT* TO BE HEARD...

    > nobody answered my question about who could play any jason becker
    > tune...can anybody play any becker tune? "air" maybe?

perhaps you pissed them off by continuing to send multiple posts :) Even
the Kinder/Gentler folk knowledgable in all things Becker, must be
biting his lip trying not to get pissed off :)

    Bahr:
    > I've got delivery time under control and I continue to make good

Very good. Probably best to also concentrate on answering Adam, and
others if you already haven't. How many times did (t)he(y) patiently
wait? That way, it doesn't blow up into some you feel it isn't, and we
all have to hear about it for the next N out of M posts, where N almost
    equals M.

    > That isn't a sob story. I'm not fishing for sympathy. I don't want

Sympathy is the last thing you'd get from me. There are people out in
the world with problems deserving of 'real' sympathy. And your _SOB_
stories how having to almost file bankruptcy and other hardships don't
mean a fucking thing to me (and I imagine some others on this list). I
sweat it out every day to make ends meet and then kindly, out of the
goodness of my heart, donate > 30% of it to the government. And so do a
lot of others on this jam.

Save it, would ya? It's getting old...

Change the address from "ytsejam@ax.com" to <insert CUSTOMER waiting for
e-mail reply> and go get busy. Your actions will speak louder than your
words. You'll know if you're doing the right thing by the reaction you
get on the jam. You won't need to defend anything. There's no need to
continue these semantic debates. Some people prefer cupcakes, while I
myself say, there is nothing so exalted on the face of God's grey earth
    as the Muffin! :)

    > Ah well. What say ye all?

I say "hear ye, hear ye" :)

    > If you tell me to pack up my bags and go
    > away, I'll do it. It's your call. If I'm not welcome here anymore, I

I don't believe ANYONE said you, the person, were unwelcome. As a matter
of fact, I specifically recall someone making the very distinction
between the person and the business.

    > It would be the height of irony that I leave
    > NOW, just as things are beginning to go right for a change

Yes, it'd be a shame for the 'person' to leave just as the 'business' is
starting to turn around again, I agree.

I actually enjoyed reading some of your reviews of music a while back.
Where'd Mike, the person, go? And is HE coming back soon?

I think the genre is rock (mediocre), more song driven than riff based
    with very 60's influenced?

I have a question for all the musicians on the JAM. Does any musician ever
become satisfied with the way they play? I ask this because although I
have been playing guitar for 6 years, know how to play in every position in
every key and can apply theory in every concievable situation, I am not
satisfied with the way I play. I have posed this same question before to
some people I know and they all say "no." If that is true then that must
mean Beethoven and Mozart were not satisfied either? Just imagine what it
would sound like if they were! That would be some bad ass shit!

Tell me what you guys think!

Not necessarily those members, but these kinds of collaborations are
great. I think it would have KILLED if they had time to put in on
this stuff... I mean, the LTE cd is great, but it lost some flavor
for me, personally... it just sort of decayed for me. There's
nothing to knock about it (not that I would, if there was) but it
didn't have the DT longevity, or the same kind of appeal that other
albums in this vein have for me. But I am pretty picky. And I still
enjoy the album... just not as much as I did.

As to Alan's Becker question: I am POSITIVE that there are a couple
dozen people on this list who can play bits and pieces of Becker's
stuff. I had most of Air down (which is, IMO the easiest tune on the
disc) and transcribed bits of Altitudes and Eleven Blue Egyptians. I
bet someone like Wacky could rip through that stuff... someone more
technically inclined than myself (I'm not the cleanest player). I
haven't learned any of the tunes all the way through, because there's
never really been a reason... I'm pretty sure if I was gonna play em
    live, I could learn em.

His other stuff ain't a lot like that, but his instructional video
focuses on EXACTLY that type of stuff... all the chromatics and
mixing major and minor blues scales to create licks. Very cool. His
first solo album, as someone mentioned, is kickass too... much more
neo-classical... has a couple GREAT Gilbert solos, and awesome key
work. The drums and bass kill too. I didn't know the bassist had
passed on. That sort of sucks. All of the Jag Panzer stuff is
available at http://www.impulsemusic.com so check it out if you're
    interested.
Can anyone vouch for the vocal/lyric quality in Jag Panzer? I have

I think it would be cool if they did, but I wouldn't count on it happening
(at least with the exact same lineup). It took Magna Carta awhile to get
MP, JP, Rudess, and Levin together to do this. And even then they only
had a week where their schedules overlapped. So it may be awhile
before all of their schedules would match up to be able to get
together. And I could be totally wrong here, but it seems to me that it
was meant to be a one time thing. But I suppose anything is a
    possibility...

I'm not honestly sure what I'm more upset about: the fact that Mike replied the way he did, or the fact that I expected it.

    > Chris, let me preface this reply by saying that nearly all your > information is inaccurate, so nearly all your conclusions are invalid,

I do remember writing in my first post on the matter that it had been a while since we communicated, and that I was willing to believe that things had changed. If they have, and what I wrote is inaccurate, then please forgive me my error.

    > and what you've done here is nothing more than a common mud-slinging > slander.

Here's where you crossed the line. In *my* experience with Prism Records (and I can't speak for anyone else's), everything I wrote is true. There was nothing slanderous about it at all, because I wrote based on my experiences and perceptions, which I explained at the end were dated.

Furthermore, I hesitate to call it "mud-slinging." I was merely helping inform potential customers of yours of the potential headaches involved in ordering from you. There are clearly people here that can overlook the waiting and the occasional quality issues. I wasn't writing to them.

..none of which I read. Then again, I don't trade for money. I trade for other boots (or blanks, for new traders). I'd be interested to know whose Albany tape you have (private e-mail, I think, would be more appropriate for that answer), because mine is damn near flawless, and it was probably recorded about two feet away from the one you have (if my assumption is correct).

    > > Dollar signs started to float around the air. Mike thought of more ways to > > make money. He turned from fans-for-fans collections to outright bootlegging. > > Ah, news flash Chris... a fans-for-fans collection is a bootleg.

Yeah, but there was a time when it wasn't "bootlegging." It was "creating collector's items for fans." The Mike Bahr that crafted "Subconsious" wasn't a bootlegger. He was a generous fan, with access to some live material and a CD plant, who helped us hardcore fans get our hands on some stuff we may have never heard otherwise, and who happened to make his money back and earn a great deal of critical acclaim. You, sir, are a bootlegger.

    > "All for a buck". Man, you sound quite naive here, Chris, and I mean > that. What was my motivation *supposed* to be? Good intentions and > internet prestige don't pay rent.

No, but there are a lot of other things that do. Like hard work. You have now confirmed that your intentions are to make a career of bootlegging. To be perfectly honest, I hope you succeed with flying colors -- not only for your own sake, but for the sake of your customers (and potential future customers, like me). But that's not why you started, and you know it.

    > in the volume I deal in now. Also, I don't do movies. In fact I can't > remember when I ever did!! You have me stumped on this one. I don't do

    Laserdiscs. Whatever. You're nitpicking now.

    > early March. Chris, it sounds to me like the last time you looked at my > web page was in 1997 sometime when all the shit was still hitting the

No, the last time I looked at your page was December 1997, to see if there was any hint of when I'd be getting TDoW, VS, or E2E. (There wasn't.) I was happily surprised to receive them in early January 1998. That's when I stopped reading your web page. If there's new information there that contradicts anything I have said, then I rescind my contradictory statements.

    > fan. Right now I stand at around 5 to 6 weeks away from having every > CD... EVERY CD... caught up, and to start to stockpile for the future. > That's a 100% turnaround, pal.

Congratulations. I'm glad your customers can stop waiting soon.

    > I fail to see how my getting stabbed and having Scoobaca break up > affects Prism Records, because if you'll check your past Jams, you'll > notice my work was not interrupted by these events.

Yes, but every "A Day In The Life Of Mike Bahr" post was coupled with a "This will only be a temporary setback in Prism Records shipping schedules" message or something similar. We lost Mike the Jammer to Mike the Businessman. I was truly moved by the stabbing story (and, regardless, I commend you for your heroism), until I realized it was just another way to put off your waiting customers for another week.

    > You're 100% wrong on this one, and that's all there is to it. My > current discs are 10,000% better than my old stuff. I even took the

I believe this falls into the realm of opinion. I could (but won't) nitpick TDoW and VS to death, and show examples in AD and WDATU of what they could have sounded like.

    > standards! Stream of Consciousness is the best DT boot I've ever done,

I haven't heard it, and probably won't for a while, so I have to take your word on that.

    > > remains to be seen is what he will do to earn our business back. > > Chris, you're so picky I wouldn't even want to try.

There's your answer, folks. Mike's answer to the critics is now officially "I wouldn't want to try to earn back the business of my picky customers."

    > Ah well. What say ye all? If you tell me to pack up my bags and go > away, I'll do it. It's your call. If I'm not welcome here anymore, I

Waaaah. The game isn't going Mike's way, so he's going to pack up and go home. No one told you to leave the jam. Damn, Mike, I've been waiting for you to come back for quite some time. The *real* you. The one that analyzed "The Silent Man." The one whose annual "Thoughts" post wasn't just another ad for Prism Records, but was a reflection of what we, as a group, have experienced together in a year.

Whatever. Most of this is just opinion anyway.

POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS OF PRISM RECORDS: Mike Bahr once created, and may again be creating (cause I'm not sure) awesome collections of rare material from some of your favorite bands. He has also once had, and may still have (again, I'm not sure), *and* may again have in the future, absurdly long waiting times on orders. Caveat emptor.

    That's all I was driving at. -d
