I'll stop you right there. It is virtually impossible to find a great RTB
boot. (I would have once said that great CP boots are harder to come by, but
Critical Mass is worth the bucks.) I have (a copy of) one that's pretty good
(and I mean quality-wise, not track-listing-wise, cause Rush like never
changes their set list :), but I would hesitate to call it anything better
    than pretty good.

The bottom line, of course, is listen before you buy. If the dealer won't let
you, then don't buy a damned thing from them ever again.

Oh, and let us know, if you get it, if it's better than "pretty good."

    Thorin wanted to know:

    > I have a question for all the musicians on the JAM. Does any musician ever
    > become satisfied with the way they play?

Personally, if I ever become satisfied with the way I play, I'll stop playing.
Every time I pick up the bass (or guitar, or whatever), I try to do something
I couldn't do last time. That's what makes it fun for me. If I ever get to
the point where I'm not getting better, then playing will get really boring
really fast. That's when it's time to discover some new music, and figure out
how to do what those people are doing.

And on that topic, I have a question of my own. Do any of you bassists here
know how to play Primus' "Tommy The Cat"? If so, let me know. I'm just
wondering what sort of techniques (and how many strings) you have to use to do
that sick shit that Les does. I mean, it simply doesn't sound possible to do!

This is the setlist from night #2 of the down under tour. VH is famous
for changing the setlist by two or three songs every night, so if you
are going to any of the shows the set could be different. This just

Actually, to point out one difference...

Friday they played Point of View, and Saturday, they did not...

The sound system at the Whisky with the AMEC board was just incredible.
Hopefully I'll get some sound clips up of Prototype with drummer Pat
McGrath, the guy is just monstrous.

Also, I'll put up some live clips of Ocean Seven with singer Mike Grant, he
    is one powerful singer.

Vendetta is an interesting prog-rock band, I didn't actually get there in
time to see them live, but I heard them when I was hanging out outside the
club, a lot of Persian influence...

It was good too see all the jammers and others down here in Hollywood!!!

I would just like to balance all the stuff I've recently read about Mike Bahr by expressing some positive things.

I've bought every single Mike Bahr DT and Rush CD after "Subconscious" (representing about US$ 375). He has, without exception, managed to deliver. And, believe me, there have been difficulties. Mail to the Netherlands seems pretty unreliable at times (I am not the only Dutch customer he has, and a few of them have suffered from that), but he invariably delivers. He has my complete trust. Granted, he can be slow - sometimes caused by having to resend stuff - but it's the sign of an immature mind if you can't wait a couple of months for your stuff. As long as it gets to my doorstep eventually, it's fine with me. It seems like a few people have reasons to complain what with delivery times becoming unacceptably high, but I believe Mike when he says that he'll manage to get rid of the backlog in 5 to 6 weeks. Three times I have had to send back the CDs because something appeared to have gone wrong with the reproduction process, and he's always replaced them free of charge (and within a month or two at that :-).

Maybe some people ought to realise that nobody is forcing anyone to buy Mike's stuff. What he does is not exactly on the right side of the law, and I think we ought to be grateful for the fact that he sticks his neck out the way he does. If he makes a buck (or even quite a few) in the process, especially all you Americans (free enterprise and all that) should understand and accept that. I don't mind, anyway. And the stuff someone said about the laserdiscs...I am sure the laserdiscs are no longer available or something, because I don't think Mike would not hurt DT with his material.

Bootlegs never hurt any band unless the bootlegs were actually pirate copies of regularly available commercial releases. I don't know a single fan who would refrain from buying "Awake" on account of him/her already having all Prism Records boots.

This message has been going on for too long, but not half as much too long as those unnecessary Mike Bahr debates that seem to pop up every six months or so. I myself am surprised Mike still makes CDs at all - which is, after all, a service to those too lazy or too untalented to gather the boot stuff themselved (for example *me*). -- /--------------------------------------------------------------\ | Richard Karsmakers & Karin Kessels karies@wxs.nl | \--------------------------------------------------------------/ C.R.I.M.E.
