Somebody better tell MP that he had better not slack off on his email
reading or he'd better unsubscribe from the jam, or the next DT album may
be a few years behind due to Mike's barreling through a backlog of Jams.
Trust me, Mike, you don't want to be a part of that. And imagine trying to
do it with speech access through a computer. UGH. And in bounce mode.
ARGH, I am having bad flashbacks.

I have a web page with all the DT tourdates I could scrape up. If anyone can help me fill in the gaps, I'd appreciate it. It's at: http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/grunge/49/DreamT.html
Any and all help would be appreciated, only the dates through April 1993 are working properly just now, but the rest will follow shortly.

Stealing?!! I don't, or rather haven't gotten any bootlegs, because I simply don't have the extra cash to spend on em'. You, sir, are a jerk-off. Never mind that Mr. P. himself has been known to get bootlegs, so is he stealing from himself? Is he stealing his own artistic integrity? I suppose that because I make midi files of DT songs that I am stealing from them, their integrity, or if a person makes their own Majesty symbol for their website, that that is stealing... Have you ever heard of the word INSPIRATION, or ADMIRATION, or PROFOUND RESPECT, etc., or obsessed fans that just want to hear more? You make me fucking sick.
My 2 cents, times 10...

I was just watching a Saturday night Live rerun on Comedy Central and the musical guest was Bon Jovi. It was from the Keep the Faith era, and they played Bed of Roses and Wanted: Dead or Alive. Bed or Roses was good--it's a very well-written song--but not a classic or anything. Wanted... simply rocked. They did a cool little thing where they change the chord at the end of "...on a steel horse I ride..." from minor to major, so where Jon sings the third of the minor chord on the recording he sings the major third of the chord in the live version. Neat unexpected thing if you've never heard it before <even though I think they've been playing it that way live since its inception>. I was struck by the band's sound. Good sound from all instruments. I am continually amazed by the blend of Jon's and Richie's voices. Richie is the perfect foil for Jon. The guitar sound was big and ballsy. I detect fuzz, a slight flange, and a delicate mix of direct-to- PA and Trace amp-through Marshall bottom cab sounds. i know they have arena-sized equipment <and budget>, but this was SNL--a stage where even Metallica had to scale down to club-size proportions. And IMO, Metallica didn't pull it off.
Plus, you can say what you want about their music, but I think it would be impossible for Bon Jovi to sound like crap. and they have the performance thing DOWN. In the middle of the song, Richie has four measures <about 16 sec> to change from the Ovation 6/12 doubleneck to his Strat for the solo. He does it--BARELY. He is very careful to get the strap on over his Richie Sambora hat--by now we are wickedly close to the beginning of the solo--and gets the guitar in place only to have to adjust it further to get his scarf off the strings. I, and I'm sure at least a few other people in the audience, was thinking, "he's not gonna make it...he's gonna come in late." Nope. Solo begins right on the 4th beat with a flourish and a slide down the neck. i exhale. THAT kind of tension cannot be achieved just by prolonging the dominant or leading-tone half-diminished 7th chord. Timing is everything.
i don't know what the point of this was. <I can see the replies: "neither do I.">. I think I was just appreciating the obvious talents of a former musical giant, even after they relenquished their giant status.

I'm definitely in for that. I think, of course, that Paul Cashman and I, coming all the way from beautiful Atlanta, GA, should be the guests of honor (unless, obviously, DT shows up) and the beneficiaries of a collection for gas/hotel/tix/beer money. And if there are any backstage passes available I think we deserve those too. In fact, I think someone should have us flown up there and put us up in the hotel-type establishment of our choice.
Too much, you think? Fine, but could I at least get some directions from someone?
:)
Take care all...

I have their CD "OceanMind" and it kicks serious ass. My local Tower Records actually has a copy(in the Death Metal section for some reason). If you can't find it let me know if you would like me to pick it up for you.

Alan Estrada and Mauricio, Hey guess what came in the mail today. I received all that you promised. I did a quick preview of the videos and it looks like some stuff definitely worth getting excited about. I think it was the first time I heard Jason Becker's voice. I am going to send this to the ytsejam also. I think in light of all the bad trading and SLOW delivery times being discussed recently - I think it is important to let others know that Alan Estrada is making an effort to fulfill all his trades. See you guys, he wasn't only posting to the ytsejam :o) I never had a real problem with Alan. He seems to be a very nice guy. It wasn't until I saw his name on the bad traders list that I began to worry. Hopefully those that have had problems with Alan also received their stuff and Alan can possibly be removed from the bad traders list. Unfortunately, he may not be able to make it to the good traders list anytime soon, but he is off my personal bad traders list right now. Mauricio - your Shawn Lane CD will be in the mail shortly.

I really don't think Radiohead is the least bit mainstream rock. Ever listen to any songs besides "Creep" of "Karma Police"? OK Computer is not at all mainstream, and even the first single off of it, "Paranoid Android" is not really radio-friendly at all. The Bends and Pablo Honey are not mainstream albums, either, by any means.

AMEN ROBERT!
Boots do not stop us from buying the official releases! We are collectors and die-hard fans that buy EVERYTHING from the band. I honestly believe that boots are HEALTHY, and let me express why:
1. MORALE and ENTHUSIASM! When we have to wait so long for official releases, a good boot can keep up the "momentum" for us until the next release. When I listen to a good boot I get the itch for a show, and to hear the next release. I think having that "special" recording keeps my interest piqued during times when the tour is not close and between official releases. And how can more exposure be bad?
2. Stuff the band may WANT us to hear! A band like DT can't possibly record everything they'd like us to hear by them, whether it be because of time constraints or because of the record label. Do you think they want to keep this "spare" material a secret?
3. For the true fans! If you lived so far from the next DT tour stops that it was impossible to make it to any of their shows, wouldn't you get a little discouraged? Wouldn't a good live boot just get you pumped?? If nothing else, you could feel like you were "almost there" and get a sense of what your favorite band is like live.
If you think about it, most good boots are more expensive than official releases. My point? Who the hell is going to buy only bootlegs and not the CD's in the store?? PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING AVAILABLE IN THE STORE. The average new listener is going to buy the recordings in the store before they have any clue as to where to get a boot by that band. How many people do you think owned a DT boot before they owned a store-bought copy?? I'm willing to bet very very few.
So, if you don't like boots, then don't buy them. Better yet, post on a list where the band is 100% against boots. They are *welcome* in this place, so don't f*&k it up for the rest of us. Personally, even if AWAKE (my fav) was $30 in the store, and a boot of it was $10, I would still HAVE to have both, and would purchase both. But then again you're hearing this from a guy who buys extra copies of everything DT does and sends them to friends around the country as gifts :)

I received my "Savatage Japan live '94" yesterday, and I was just wondering if someone could tell me who is(/are) the guitarist(s) on the album. It's the Handful of Rain-Tour,so could it be Skolnick? There was no liner notes, just lyrics,so I tought I'd write to you and ask...Please forgive me my stupidity...
