If you were to ask a handful of English majors/professors what books they
would have on their desk if they were limited to, say, 5, I'm sure most would
list "The Elements of Style" by Strunk and White. (E.B. White, incidentally,
also wrote "Charlotte's Web" and other nice little kids' stories.) This one
is the grandfather of sources on correct writing.

There is also, BTW, a web page associated with the book, but I don't remember
    where it is.

    Hope that helps!

The St. Martin's Handbook is very good (what we use here at the University

You got me on that one; I only gave one case, because that was the issue at
hand. You're right, it can signify a contraction, and a pet peeve of mine
is the misuse of "it's" and "its."

Okay, I was right on the years and wrong on the letters. My bad.

    > However, Brian then wrote "email," and that's supposed to be "e-mail."
    > But, I mean, really. Who cares?

Actually, there's no standard for email, so I just write it the way that's
most popular. However, thinking logically it would actually be e.mail,
since 'e' is an abbreviation for electronic. There's no reason, according
to the rules of grammar, for it to be hyphenated. But like you say, it
    doesn't really matter. :)

Yeah, it's more like "with ghetto slang grammar rules which may change day
to day and without notice and which aren't a real language but just a
corruption of English by the ignorant." How's that? :)

----- Oh, and just a status update on Fasten Your Seatbelts. Nearly 50 copies have already been mailed out to those who have ordered copies and there are many copies ready to go out the door! The web site once again for Fasten Your Seatbelts is:

    http://web.mit.edu/bogie/

I've gotten nothing but positive remarks on this CD and if all goes well, I'll be starting a couple of new projects this summer once things calm down for me in terms of school. (MIT can be just a _little_ tough at times).

For those of you who are too lazy to go to my site, the price is $25 for a 2CD set ($30 for int'l orders) (shipping included). On disc 2, there are bonus FII demos (CD quality versions of those MP3s floating around on the net).

I want to thank all the people who have helped me out by posting their reviews about FYS to this mailing list. It's helped out a lot. I've definitely have had a great time so far with this project. Thanks for making things much easier!

    Take care, Nick Bogovich

EXAMPLES: Your o's look like a's. There are three 5's in the telephone number. One sign of poor writing is too many and's.

I mean, EVERY other band ever mentioned around here has at least a few detractors who have posted, but I don't think I can say that of SB.

Yes, they are that good. And yes, the very start of 'The Light' sounds like the opening of a bad off off off Broadway musical, but that's only about the first 15 seconds.

I love concert lines because no where else do I get to see so many people with the same passion I have for that particular band.

I have found that if you arrive a good hour before the doors open, you stand a chance at getting near the front without having to sneak in front of people. If you get there two hours before doors, you should be set. That is my experience from the vanderbilt in LI, which was pretty big. I guess you'd have to get there sooner for smaller clubs, or maybe not, because then less people would be there. wow. That was no help at all!

But this is. The band comes out maybe 30 minutes to an hour after the show, and not at the same time. I guess they figure why fight for attention...this way, they each get the post-show mob all to themselves.

Where to wait? by the tour bus. They can't get on it without acknowledging you and will most likely sign your thing or answer your question.

It helps if you have gifts, btw. James likes those funky-ass cheese curd laden, gravy smeared french fries they call poutine. JM likes little matchbox cars, derek loves hotpants, mike has a fetish for belinda carlisle music, and JP collects hot tub, RV, and ping-pong table catalogues.

I myself prefer Tiffany to Belinda.
