First, the other happy things, so those with little tolerance can read this
    and skip the rest :)

New trick for the day: Sing your favorite Dream Theater songs while doing
your best impression of Axl Rose. Keeps you laughing all day long. It's
quite a riot. As opposed to Quiet Riot whish is something else entirely.

    I'm up for a cali-meet-jammer-fest. Either somebuddy's house or in S.F.
proper at some "house o' food" would be best.

    And now on to grammar.

First, in my experience, we Americans (a.k.a. Yankee Scum) tend to say that
a music group or company IS something, while those of more British
persuasion (a.k.a. Limey Bastards) tend to say that such an organization
(organisation?) ARE something. I dunno about Canadians, Australians or
    other ENglish-speaking countries.

And, the two conflicting grammar books only goes to show that Proper
English is an oxymoron. Personally, I prefer to not use apostrophes for
pluralizing anything, even when "correct" -- I will say something like "you
need three fives" if I have to, or instead of an apostrophe, just put
another one in front of the word and make it in single quotes, such as
staitng the fact that there are theee 'm's in the word mammary. Or,
dammit, find a way to say it without pluralizing the letter, such as saying
that the letter 't' appears twice in the word 'testicle'

Okay, so I'm tired and can only think of silly examples. consider
yourselves lucky that I can type at all.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a piezo? (in layman's terms, please)

A piezo is a pickup generally used on electric-acoustic guitars. alot of
electric guitar makers are putting them on electric guitars to get an
acoustic sound, such as hamer and parker. they are mounted to the bottom
    of the guitar's bridge.

Well, I think it's a matter of taste if you like Empty Tremor more than Arkhe
    or the otherwise.

I actually love Arkhe. They are really great but (IMO) Empty Tremor are much
    better. Arkhe's singer is good.
But his voice is not like La Brie. He trys to sing and sound like him.
You know (IMO) Arkhe try to sound a bit too much like Dream Theater.
Empty Tremor have their own sound and creativity.

Anyway, both bands are really good and I'm really happy, that they are
so many great talented bands out there.

NP : Pink Floyd - Pusle <--- This one is the best live album I've ever heard.

P.S. thanks to the jammers for their suggestions about Pink Floyd and Genesis.

    Hi

Just had to say that last night's Metallica show in Brisbane, Australia was
THE best concert I have ever seen. Absolutely brilliant stuff.

It will have to be an amazing show that can top this one. Perfect (well,
would be if they had played Fade to Black... *sigh*).

An acoustic guitar pickup, I do believe, or a pickup that does one hell of
a job of simulating an acoustic on an electric guitar. Usually placed
    in/under a bridge.

It's different for every person. Basically, you know it when you hear it.

Also, what exactly is the definition of "power metal"?

Symphony X, Angra, Stratovarius, etc. Check these bands out :)

/me raises his hand timidly. "Er, yes."

After hearing so many raves about Spock's Beard, I picked up "The Light"
from the Laser's Edge. My reaction? Interesting, but for the most part I
was unimpressed. The production left something to be desired, IMHO, and I
*really* didn't care for Neal Morse's voice in several places. Did I pick
the wrong disc to start with? Are "Beware of Darkness" and "The Kindness
    of Strangers" better sounding discs?

Then again, this might be Conception all over again. I picked up "Flow"
after rave reviews of Conception and was mostly unimpressed. Then I picked
up "In Your Multitude" -- wow, what a difference. Now I even like "Flow"
    better than I used to.

    Ta,
    Phil

Does anyone have this album?I heard it at my friendīs place and what I
heard was some incredibly weird(and good)shit! This album is almost
completely instrumental except for one song that has vocals. That was the
    only song I didnīt like.
I was surprised to see that Gregg Bissonette is playing drums on this
album.I only have one album where he is playing.Steve Lukatherīs
:Luke. That album is a mix of straight forward rock and alternative and
sucks pretty bad.I also know that he has played with David Lee Roth.I
had always thought that he was this straightforward 4/4 guy who has no
chops. How wrong I was!His playing on this album is just mindblowing.

I've been using a Boss Acoustic pedal. It cost me $249 (Australian Dollars,
I bet it's a lot cheaper wherever you are!) and it sounds pretty good. If
you look at one, try and check it out through a PA or an acoustic
amplifier, as through a regular guitar amp, it still sounds pretty
electric. Also, it sounds a lot more authentic when you use a single coil
pickup. I was considering a new trem with a piezo, but this pedal solved
    all my problems!

A piezo is basically a pickup. (Correct me if I'm wrong, guys) You can
put it in (or under the bridge) of an electric guitar and make it sound
like an acoustic. Some guitar companies are making two guitars in one
with it: 2 outputs (one electric / one acoustic with the piezo) with
volume knobs for each and a blending knob (so you can play both or go
    total electric or acoustic).

I thought I had heard that Petrucci was trying to work out the kinks of
putting one in his electric so that he could play all the acoustic parts
    without having to switch guitars.

    Anybody know?
