    Hi again!

As I said in my other post I met Volodya (the guy from"Open Alll Night
Records") in France and got the CD "Into The Great Unknown" from him.
The CD is a compilation of live recordings from different bands to
give an impression of what future releases of full shows may sound like.
And I have to say that I'm impressed. :-)
The sound quality on all of the tracks is excellent, easily among the best
audience recordings I know, and I know a lot, believe me...
There are songs from DT (a kick-ass version of Under A Glass Moon, Peruvian
Skies), Megadeth (don't care too much about them...), Savatage (great!!),
Paradise Lost, Vanden Plas (Rainmaker as well as a great acoustic version of
Father, very crisp sound!), Gamma Ray, Hammerfall and Royal Hunt.
All I can say is get this CD! Great value for the money.
    Volodya's e-mail adress: provibe@club-internet.fr

    Take care!

    Jon Kretschmer reminded us:

"There is a community here. I never felt it before, but it is there if you will let yourself feel it."

Sometimes it feels more like a family!

"So I challenge all the people that are sitting back and thinking "My god, these are the biggest Dream Theater fans in the world? I don't want to associate myself with them" to give this list a chance (if you can handle the 10 jams a day! : ). You will be infinitely surprised at the people that turn up, the experiences you will go through because of the list, and the knowledge you will attain. Its not every day that you get 1500 people sitting in a large room talking about almost the same thing. "

Can we can get an AMEN! There is much more from this list than just e-mails. Some of us have met face to face and forged lasting friendships all from meeting each other through this list. (Hey Jon K., long time no see!) And, when Dream Theater plays a concert near you, there are pre-shows, potential for ride sharing for longer road trips and you don't have to go alone to a concert, you can share your DT experience with others who feel the same way you might about OFB! And because of this list, I have been introduced to some awesome music as I was woefully behind. Bands like Spock's Beard, Shadow Gallery, Fates Warning, Enchant, Superior, Lemur Voice, Savatage, Pantera, Symphony-X and I would have never known about the mind altering, soul stirring glory that is LTE if I hadn't been subscribed to the Jam.

Just words to ponder from the Shadows.

]From what I gather from what the owner of jaxx has said, that only the weekend night shows are 21+. He said it is too hard to keep track of who is 21 and who is not on weekend nights and that during the week it is easier to do this. So a DT show during the week may be all ages or 18+. But last time when we were in line to the DT Jaxx show some under 21 kid couldn't get in. He had said that some technician at the back door said he could get in. So he and his buddies left the line. Later on inside we see the under 21 kid in there. So he must have gone around back and got in...

    hey all,

1)i just wanted to share my views on spocks beard (i bought The light a few months ago- Beware of darkness is next) -i can fully understand people having problems with the light:

yes, maybe the songs are too long and have too many different sounding parts to them, that apparently have little to do with each other. also i think on the edge shouldnt have been on the album (i think the others are really geat). Neal's voice has grown on me a LOT.

but for me there is a very important part of the music that is really cool IMO: the humor aspect. this disk is FUN to listen to as well as being musically inspiring, etc. this cd had me laughing pretty hard the first few listens, wich i think is a quality of SB that should be noted. :)

    2) bought symphx's ToO the other day, and i must say im not that impressed. the only two songs that like all the way through are Lady of the snow and of course Through the looking Glass the intro to wich sounds a little too much like surrounded (who ever noticed that: i agree) -but the rest? i dont know, of course there is awsome, incredible stuff all over the place, but IMO thats it, the SONGS arent that great. IMO. IMO. -anyone else, who doesnt like the keyboard soloing? i dont like the wimpyy little keyboard sound that much and also the Guitar Solo/ keyboard solo /guitar so... parts in a lot of songs are a little bit repetetive. ill just stop here, IMO its a GOOD disk but it doesnt do more than that to me.

Somebody mentioned how TOOL's Aenima sounds like JLMB? i really dont know were that came from, but speaking of tool i can only recommend their newest album Aenima. great stuff. i consider them progressive. anybody else?

oh yeah, i exchanged my europ. LTE and got the real one from cdnow for cheaper than here. this was way too long.

    have a good day.

On the Eve of Destruction, Phil Carter said: >After hearing so many raves about Spock's Beard, I picked up "The Light" >from the Laser's Edge. My reaction? Interesting, but for the most part I >was unimpressed. The production left something to be desired, IMHO, and I >*really* didn't care for Neal Morse's voice in several places. Did I pick >the wrong disc to start with? Are "Beware of Darkness" and "The Kindness >of Strangers" better sounding discs?

It's strange... I can understand people not liking Spocks... most people here on the list have listened to Spocks on CD... me on the other hand, was fortunate enough to see one of Spock's premier performances, it was like the 2nd or 3rd time they actually played live. I have NEVER heard their stuff before this show... This was back in 96 or 95... It was the live show that struck me... just the fact they were able to pull at that shit off live was insane... so now I've seen them live 3 times live over the last 3 years... and they absolutely tore up ProgFest 97... It's amazing seeing them in a fairly large sized venue. They have such energy live.

The Light's production is somewhat dull and unimpressive, but live, it's incredible.

Deedlit in her unending sarcastic remarks against the best band in the world:

    >>It will have to be an amazing show that can top this one. Perfect (well, >>would be if they had played Fade to Black... *sigh*). >> >>Spiff >> > They probably did play it--it's in Eb and now called "The Memory Remains."

Heh heh, well, true, they use the same goddamn scale in every one of their songs, the same tuning, the same 5-7 pentatonic E riff over and over again, but FTB at least had *some* dynamics. At this point, I'm just happy if Metallica at least wears black in their performances....

Well, after hearing Holy Land, I was pretty impressed. The vocals aren't my favorite cup of tea, but he can belt out a lot more notes than I think I'll ever be able to do. I'd probably be blown away by the band if I didn't get two Symphony-X CD's the same day I got HL.... But so far my fave song of Angra's is Evil Warning...DEAR GOD THAT SONG ROCKS ALL HELL! The melodies running underneath everything in that song just....oooh make me wanna strap on the guitar and howl like the dog I am.

*sniff* I love you man! I felt the need to REPOST that whole statement 'cuz it's so damn true. This list IS the first, and largest online dysfunctional family. When I first subscribed, it was from a recommendation from Vince (yeah, you can all thank HIM for my existence on here >;D) who was subscribed and getting all this news and information from the band, about their new songs, their mini tours on the east coast, even the band's favorite brand of pastel bikinis.

What I got as my first email was a story from a dude named Bafu Vai telling me about his excursion to the north to interview James Labrie at his flying caribou farm. Now if that didn't catch me off guard....

I guess it's just like life. The more shit you go through with people, the more flame wars you survive, the closer bond you have with the others who are left standing. What doesn't kill ya only makes ya stronger!

Or you could look at it this way...would you rather be associated with the Metallica list? I think not! >:D

    Anyways, that's enough of me.
