Maturity. This has been your theme. Let me share something with you: making
an ignorant statement and then attempting to defend it is not mature.
Provoking and feeding a flame war is not mature (and I am guilty here as
    well). But most of all:

Making a private message public is not mature!

Not only is it immature, but it is a major breach of etiquette. I would
highly recommend that you refrain from doing this again, or be prepared for
    the consequences.

Rest assured that even if people hadn't yet realized your idiocy, they
    surely have now.

The Truman Show, new Jim Carrey movie coming out June 5th, may be the
most greatest movie you will ever see......

saw a super sneak preview tonight, I'm gonna be there June 5th....and
maybe June 6th as well, that movie fucking ROCKED!

the future plans listed above are, of course, contingent on whether the
Red WIngs are still playing on either night.....LET THE NHL PLAYOFFS
    BEGIN!!!!!!

but seriously, go see the truman show when it comes out, one hell of a
flcik/concept, and Jim Carrey is, well, cool as hell.....

UGH! how long have you been on this list, D? Every Ytse-vet
            knows that it's "Spock's Beard rox nAdZ!!!"(R) sheesh! :P

BTW, I've never heard Spock's (yes, yes..shoot me now), but
from what I understand, they are more of a prog-rock band
            than prog-metal, no?

I feel Spock's Beard is an excellent band. I just have Beware Of
Darkness. They are definitely not prog metal but are definitely prog.
They are very technical and excellent musicians.

My only gripe is the song Thoughts. To me it sounds like he is saying
farts and if you read the lyrics it fits "thoughts that linger" ->
    "farts that linger"...

As for Enchant I also feel that Blueprint is a better album then
    wounded. Wounded is good though.

Let me first say that I'm not agreeing with his comments that "all of you need to grow up, or that all of you suck, or that this mailing list isn't worthy of carrying the DT name any longer." The only thing that I agreed with him on was that every time I state something and someone disagrees with me, there is no discussion about why they disagree with me. The other person simply says something sarcastic like "No, you're wrong you stupid bastard," and that's all. I don't want to piss off anyone and I'm not putting down the Jam or any one on it by any means. All I am trying to do by writing this is point out a few things that could be changed very easily to make the Jam that much more entertaining and informative, and I don't think I'm the only one that feels this way. A few years ago, I used to get a little more out of it than I do now. I'm not going to sit here and say that I am the greatest DT fan in the world or that I have been to all of their shows or I have been subscribing to this list since its creation. Hell, I have only been to one DT show and been listening to them only since the Images album. The only thing I am suggesting is very simple: Can we have a little more intelligent discussion and a little less sarcasm, rude comments, and meaningless arguments? As someone said earlier, this is a "family," so let's quit putting everyone down. Another thing that has really annoyed me recently is the topics being discussed. I can recall in the past that I have listened to certain bands and bought their CD's simply because I heard about them on this list. I even went to a Rush concert a few years ago with a guy that I met on the list, and even still keep in contact with him every now and then. Now, every time I read the mailing, sure, I still hear some things about other bands and DT, but its greatly distorted by conversation about grammar, Sony, and other irrelevant topics. I am not putting any one down or belittling anyone. Just making a few suggestions. Inevitably though, I guarantee I will get flamed for what I just said, rather than discussion from someone who may disagree with me. -Brett

Hey MP or anyone who knows the final (if there is any) US tourdates: Please, post them now! Time is passing by, and the less time we out of town jammers have, the harder it will be to attend to any show.

At least clarify the Texas tourdates, cause i heard that there was a change of dates between SA and Dallas or Houston.

    Thanks Mauricio

The Dallas DT show has now been moved to Fort Worth and will be at the Caravan of Dreams on Saturday May 23 instead of at Bronco Bowl on Sunday May 24th. I got this information from the Bronco Bowl web page. I called the Caravan of Dreams to verify this and they said that tickets go on sale May 1st and will be $24.50. They also said that the show will not have reserved seating. The phone number for Caravan is (817) 429-4000. FYI, tickets for Caravan of Dreams can not be purchased from TicketBastard.

I am disappointed that DT will be at a smaller venue but at the same time I am excited that they will be at Caravan because Caravan is such a cool place to see a concert (I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones there a couple of weeks ago).

I know it has something to do with combining modes, but what, I just don't know. Thanks for the help. Be well. Matt B

Hi all, Beavis <Wes Foll> here, it's been awhile since I've posted to the jam, but here I am again....anyways, my question is--is the May 9 show on or not? I'd heard that it was not confirmed yet (from Pellaz).

That's all I've got fer now, except one thing: I forgot the guy's name who accused us all of being racists just because some of us like Type O Negative. I think you're the one who needs to grow up and get the shampoo bottle out of yer ass and see we're not racists. Oh, and quit assuming you know the guys in DT so well you can just make remarks about what/who they like and think.

<Beavis> steps off his soapbox for now,

You're absolutely wrong, out of place, and obviously STUPID for thinking that way, pillow-biting scum! How DARE you think that way -- improvement for the Jam? PSHAW! I, a member of the STMSYGTH (Society to MAke Sure Ytsejam Goes To Hell), as well as the other members, including Eckie, Bafu, Dr. Mosh, and international members (Rogerio, Graham, etc.) will make sure this will NEVER be the case......rot in hell, capitalist slime!

OK, there definitely is point to your statement, but it's EXTREMELY difficult to do, especially with 1500 people from different personalities and countries on here. Hell, most families can't do it with a mom, dad, brother and sister...

I agree some of the topics are out there, but the Sony thing is definitely worth talking about, as well as recording EQ, guitar EQ, and others that don't directly affect me, because they're interesting. Granted the grammar thing got a *BIT* out of hand, but I'm sure someone learned something about the whole apostrophe thing, as well as be referenced to great books that deal with writing style and grammar. I personally never knew there was an online Strunk and White "elements of style". That helped me out.

You're going to find things that don't relate to you that you think shouldn't be on here, but no one is going to talk about DT 100% of the time - to tell youthe truth, it'll get stale really quick - that's why this list is a lot better than others. It has a great thing called DYNAMICS. That, with the whole "family" thing posted before (which made me weep) is what sets this apart ffrom other lists. The easiest thing to do is to simply hit the "D" button if it's something you don't want to read (or the page down button). The more streamlined the 'Jam gets, the more stale it will be, and the fewer "eccentric" tidbits of information will get lost.

god am I bored at work, t-minus 3 hours to Happy Hour and counting...........

    Happy 'Jamming,

    Al

I read an interview with Neal Morse and he said about this song (the interviewer did not ask about this) that he didn't sing farts, but thoughts. He said he never heard the original version, but another prog-version cover. Maybe that version had "farts that linger" in the lyrics.

    >Excuse my ignorance, but what is a piezo? (in layman's terms, please)

Piezoelectric mikes are very sensitive microphones (they're condenser mikes, I think ... they need phantom power). In the theater the floor mikes are all piezos. We also put them on the inside of pianos when they want the miked ... just stick them right on the frame).

The way they work, I think, is there's a crystal which, when excited, produces a tiny electric charge which is amplified to produce a workable signal. They're quite sensitive ... three of them at the front of a stage and it sounds like everyone is lapel miked. But you have to CRANK the gain and they like to feedback like crazy.

Anyway, miking a guitar with a piezo is the same general idea as miking a piano with one.

<bigger> I'm proud to announce that CDnow has just selected "Under A Cyber

Moon" as their "COOL COSMIC SITE OF THE WEEK"... Every week, they

give this award to the best sites in their Cosmic Credit Program.

For a whole week, UACM will be featured on the following address:

    http://www.cdnow.com/coolsites

They made the image for the link themselves, but neglected to use

the site's title. So now it just says "DREAM THEATER". Still very

cool, because at least it'll give DT some more exposure ! :-)

Also, I can't help but wonder if UACM might be partly responsible

for making "Liquid Tension Experiment" a CDnow hot seller. So far

47 copies of LTE have been sold by CDnow through UACM. :-)

Don't even BOTHER checking rsabbs for current (tour) information.

They only add the info Mike Portnoy sends them (if you're lucky).

Seem to me they don't give a shit about Dream Theater. :-(

Just visit "Under A Cyber Moon" for tour dates (and information),

the latest news, info on all the (upcoming) side projects, etc...

As usual, I'm always open to suggestions for making the site more

    interesting.

Btw, I am still looking for websites of venues DT will be playing

at over the next few months. Come to think of it, if you have ANY

info that might be helpful (phone numbers, ticket prices etc...),

send it over to me at itchy@dreamt.org :-)
