Another point worth making is that even if all somewhat-off-topic-discussion
ceased, that wouldn't affect the Dream Theater content. It's not like
people would start talking a lot more about Dream Theater, because
everything imaginable about the band is constantly discussed already. No
"Dream Theater issues" aren't being discussed because of other threads.
So all the other stuff is just extra. And if you don't care about it,
just don't read it; that's what I do a lot. As others have said, however,
just because I skip over certain posts doesn't mean they're worthless to
    others.

I don't have speakers here at work.....what does it sound like? I
mean, from the description they were giving I was thinking of
something along the lines of Stabbing Westward (whom I actually
like). Is there a vein or a band you can kind of compare them to?

    That was Big Wreck.

Speaking of that show, I am in search of tapes of the following shows:

    Jan 2 98 Hartford, CT
Jan 4 98 Plainview, NY (the afore-mentioned Vandy show)
Any of the European shows with cool cover songs, or ToT

You should send e-mail to pigfucker@fbi.gov, with a subject of "You lame-ass
bitches!" In the body of the message, you should detail your drug abuse
problems, and mention that "Louis Freeh's sister can't suck dick worth a
damn!" You will probably stop receiving e-mail of any kind really soon.

Either that or you could READ THE FAQ (http://www.cs.wm.edu/~cmerlo/dtfaq.html,
since Gabbo hasn't updated it yet), OR THE INTRO MESSAGE YOU GOT WHEN YOU
    SUBSCRIBED.

OK, OK, I'll repost it for everyone's benefit. Pay attention, huh?

    ------------

Welcome to YTSEJAM, the Dream Theater mailing list! This list
is for fans of Dream Theater, and will discuss them and any
related topics. (Related topics include other progressive
metal bands like Fates Warning, King's X, Crimson Glory,
            Inferno, etc.)

Topics that are considered non-related include religion, politics,
abortion, etc. If a non-related thread lasts for too long,
the list managers may issue a warning, followed by suspension
            or expulsion from the list.

Also the list managers reserve the right to reject messages,

    NEWS

    ----
(Make sure to check the date at the top of this file, since this
part can go quickly out of date.)

If the digest number makes it look like you missed an issue, you probably haven't--listproc has a bug where the digest number sometimes increments by two instead of one.

The new Dream Theater album "Falling Into Infinity" has been released, and the band is currently on tour in the United States. Check the FAQ (see below) for tour dates.

The rumors of the Ronnie Scott's gig Video Tape (mentioned in Heavy Rock Magazine among others) seems to only be a rumor.

    WWW INFO --------

The following URL is the official Dream Theater web page:

    http://www.rsabbs.com/dt

(there are actually over 100 DT or Ytsejam related web pages).

    SUBSCRIBING -----------

    To subscribe, please send:

    subscribe ytsejam name

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a Subject of "asdf". Please don't put anything in front of the word subscribe (eg spaces, tabs, smileys).

    FAQ ---

The faq (Frequently asked questions with answers) can be retrieved via email by sending:

    get ytsejam dtfaq

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf".

The FAQ is currently maintained by Chris Merlo and includes background on many of the songs, answers to many historical questions, and sources for some of the samples used. Highly recommended :)

It is also available via WWW from this URL:

    http://www.cs.wm.edu/~cmerlo/dtfaq.html

NOTE: It is *STRONGLY* recommended that you read the FAQ before posting to the Ytsejam for the first time. This way, we can avoid answering the same questions over and over.

The Dream Theater Unofficial Song Book includes lyrics and transcribed samples. It is available via WWW at:

http://www.indirect.com/www/mkizer/index.html or via email by sending:

    get ytsejam dt.songbook

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf". (The most recent version is usually the web page.)

    DIGEST FORM -----------

By default this list is a digest. That means you get individual pieces of mail bundled up into a single message. If you are in bounce mode, and would like to change to digest mode, mail:

    set ytsejam mail digest

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf".

It used to be that only 1 digest a day would come out, but we've been averaging 2-4. This number will hopefully go down. UNDIGEST -------- To go into normal "bounce" mode (receive each message individually) send:

    set ytsejam mail ack

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf".

PRIVACY ------- By default your subscription address is "conceal"ed--that means that others can't see your address if a "recipients ytsejam" command is sent to the server. If you would like others to see your address, send:

    set ytsejam conceal no

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf".

    UNSUBSCRIBING -------------

To leave the list, please send:

    unsubscribe ytsejam

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf". Please don't put anything in front of the word unsubscribe (eg spaces, tabs, smileys) or the idiotic program might reject your request.

If you run into problems with the program, send email to ytsejam-owner@ax.com and a human will help you. (We're busy people--we'll try to process your request as fast as possible, but don't panic if you haven't been unsubscribed within 24 hours.)

    AUTOMATIC UNSUBSCRIPTION ------------------------

I will unsubscribe you if one of the following happens:

    1) I get "User Unknown" or other bounces from your site for 3 consecutive days 2) You receive a warning and ignore it.

You'll receive a warning if you spam the list with an unrelated ad (Olga, incense sticks, etc). You won't receive one for posting ads for stuff related to the list (albums, etc).

    BACK ISSUES -----------

The Ytsejam archive is temporarily unavailable. Send mail to ytsejam-owner@ax.com (a human) to request back issues. An alternate solution is being worked on at this time.

    List of Mailing Lists ---------------------

To get a list of music-oriented mailing lists, check out: http://www.liszt.com/

    Administrivia -------------

There are three addresses you need to know:

    1) ytsejam@ax.com

this is the list address for messages--when you send a message to this account, it will be echoed to all of the subscribers of this list.

    2) ytsejam-request@ax.com

this is the address to pass on to friends and coworkers who are interested in joining this newsgroup. subscription requests, etc. are handled here.

    3) ytsejam-owner@ax.com

this is the address that reaches me, the mailing list owner, personally. This address should not echo out to the list.

Isn't this at least the 2nd time this schmuck has done this? I think he is only in digest mode, thank God! So we should see this message in every digest until 4-27.

How many people read all these posts about complaining etc? I've been zipping through most of the latest jams. The space bar works wonders!

VH 3 is growing on me the more I listen. It is actually a very decent cd in my opinion.

Well from the description of the opening act on DT's tour, they dont sound like a band that will get a good reaction at all. I see "drum machine" and "grunge seattle". Doesn't sound too thrilling to me...

Well, I heard the one sample "People Mover", and it is only similar to Stabbing Westward in that electronic stuff is in the background. I personally don't like FITM at all, but I like SW a lot.

Anyway, according to the bio I posted, it sounds like what we have here is a combination of Nirvana and a Trent Reznor with broken hands and no brain left.....

    Something to look forward to.

Also, if you notice, on the tour section of the FITM web site, they mentione being on the Warped Tourthrough August, but don't mention any of the DT shows...........maybe just a matter of updating the site.

    Two or three things:

Do the lead vocals remind anyone of Kev's Chromakey demos? :)

They lack keyboards, so they only ever be "good" not "great" :)

And, on a more serious note: I think they sound pretty cool. Sure, they've got that "grunge" sound, but listen closer: unlike grunge bands, they actually have some decent song & lyric writing abilities. I'm looking at they lyrics for "I hardly know myself" and you know what it's about? being upset and angry and NOT flying off the handle and doing something stupid. The rest are more simple emotional-based songs, but at least it's not the "my life sucks, my life sucks, my life sucks and it's your fault" songs that most alterna-grunge bands sing about.

I might actually pick up the CD to get a preview of the show. In fact, I think I will order it from the link on their page.
