I was flipped through my old issues of Guitar World and came across the
June '93 issue, which has an awesome two-page spread of JP (which he signed
for me) and lo and behold, Mike Varney's 'Hometown Heros' section features
none other than one 'Mike Romeo' from New Jersey. You've GOT to love the
photo of him. First this and now Seinfeld's puffy shirt. It's a damn good
thing the guy can shread beyond belief - he aint winning beauty or fashion
contests!

Okay - I'm going to throw something out again. I have worked on creating jam
along tapes (for guitarist, because that is what I am) for WDADU, IAW, and
Awake. All the songs will eventually have Drums, Bass, and Keys.
Almost all the songs are completed as far as drums and bass. Only a few also
have the keys.
I would like to buy a CD-R and make the three jam along albums available to
those interested. I realize there are already MIDI files, but these are only
as good as your sound card's (almost too afraid to use apostrophes anymore)
wavetable sounds. Some of these MIDI files also lack a little in the accuracy
department. I won't say mine are 100% accurate, but I have worked very hard
on the accuracy (including dynamics).
Here is the plan. I would like to assemble a tape of about 3 DT jam along
songs and send them out with the idea that who ever receives this tape will
post a review on the jam. Depending on the feedback, I will then decide if I
will buy a CD-R, complete all three albums, and open up complete album jam
along tapes to everyone.
So the first 5-10 people (in the US) to respond to this will get a copy of
this tape sent to them. I will not ask for any tape reimbursement or shipping
charges. Instead, your feedback will be PAYMENT. As I said, the feedback
will be very helpful to me.
I would also be very happy to send Mike Portnoy or any other member of DT a
free copy if they so request. To me, that would be the ultimate feedback. If
Mike Portnoy told me that some of the drums were inaccurate, I couldn't
exactly argue with him :o) Oh wait, I remember incorporating a live "change"
Mike Portnoy did to "Pull Me Under" because I liked it so much. This
paragraph may be wishful thinking, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Unfortunately, because I am paying for shipping I have to limit the FREE tapes
to the US.
I would also like to hear Chris Ptacek's opinion on the FREE demo tape. From
what I have gathered, he has acheived a decent level of proficiency. He also
has a knack for being brutally honest. I would much rather have an honest
opinion than a "kiss-ass" opinion. So if Chris P. is interested, let me know.

Hey to the guy who is looking into King Crimson. I would say go pick up
Sleepless: The Concise King Crimson. I am not a huge Crimson fan but from
what I hear it has some of the best stuff from the 3 (or however many)
"eras" of Crimson. It is pretty good. I personally care for the early
stuff.
Damn. I have been listening to a tape copy of the second disc of The
Thieving Magpie, which is a live version of Misplaced Childhood. Damn. I
just (after like 2 years of looking for it) picked up the CD of MC. Damn.
I LOVE this album. Fish has an amazing voice, and Steve Rothery's guitars
are haunting. I am gonna look for the tab after I finish this message.

In other news: I've been working at Pizza Hut for about a month and change now, and I discovered that we have a satellite hookup to commercial-free radio, piped in 24/7, and a wide selection of channels to pick from. Last night after close I decided to put on the "power rock" station to see what they'd play. Well. Metallica, Rush, and then, Savatage.
So I said to myself, "hey if they'd play savatage, maybe they'll play DT." And sure enough, then they played status seeker.
Well, that was pretty cool.

The only KC disc I have is Nightwatch. It was just released in America at the end of last year and it's a 2cd Live set from 1973. IMO this cd is one of 1997's best! If you like 70's prog you won't be disappointed with this one.
