    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Listening to Payne's Gray here at work and having fewer projects on my
desk today, I blew them all off and spent some time searching for a
Payne's Gray website (since I knew several jammers had asked about one).

After a little digging, I uncovered a pretty good site at

            http://www.people.memphis.edu/~pharvstn/glenn.htm

    Check it out.

    Ta,
    Phil

I am glad that I am not the only person who recognized the guitar solo on
"What do you want from me" as the one from Gilmours 1978 solo project. :)

and ALL Pink FLoyd albums and their solo projects are GREAT pieces of
work! I have over 20 albums <yes 20> and love them all! From the
psychedelic era through their art-rock stage to their recent stuff. I
love Roger's works and I love Dave's. The only solo project that I didnt
take to was Nick Mason's Ficticious sports, although
the Mason/Fenn project in the 80s was real good.

What i love is that they are all DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT from each other.

SO, IMHO, dont fight over "Rog is better than Dave" or whatever, just be
glad they gave their great musical legacy. Get them all! And be glad they
didn't do 10 "Dark Side of the Moons" :)

one last thing.. the 1977 Oakland show that floyd did features an
incredible jam session on Shine On You Crazy Diamond. If you want a Floyd
boot get that one. And for a terrific performance of "The Wall" - there
are some recordings of Earl's Court in 1980 floating around.. Some awesome
piano melodies on them. Prefer those performances to the original
    actually :)

    OK, sorry..I'll hide now.

    Oh, and... Dream Theater RULES!

You didn't mention those funky "miniature drum sticks" that TL had attached to his fingers (on his picking hand). He gets that great, full, pounding sound with them.

Does he use those a lot? Anyone else use them?

How do you know what they said they would send me :) ? Er no, I asked for a promo CD and they said they would send a promo CD okay.... Yes I know it's free, but surely they shouldn't say they are gonna send you something and then decide not to, that is bad publicity. Also not answering email is not cool at all.... The thing is ET and Arash posting to this list frequently about getting this tape, it seems a few of us haven't recieved diddly-squat. This is not a good way to try and build a fan base, is it ? I smell a rat...

Most of Extreme's party songs, actually have a deeper meaning to them. Especially on the first album, it seems to me they were saying something about how teenagers acted towards sex. Gary has alway had a sarcastic, humorous, way of saying 'serious' things, if you can really call them serious... But i guess they can be taken as party songs if you dont give a fiddle about that.

    > The reason I don't like VH III is because the songwriting just isn't trademark > Eddie anymore. I think he tried too hard to be serious. Van Halen was always > the ultimate party band. They were about one thing, and that was fun. Van > Halen getting all deep and serious about anything other than drinking and > fucking is about as natural as

Well, seeing that it's the lyrics that eventually make song 'serious' or 'fun', and that Gary wrote all the lyrics, i dont see what Eddie had to do with it. Most of the music still sounds like trademark VH with a couple new twists. And songs like Dirty Water Dog and The One I Want have a party feel (at least to me they do) Of course, there's still a couple of non-VH songs like A Year to the Day, and some songs dont flow very well from section to section.

There is one thing that really bugs me, and thats the overly raw production, even though you can tell it was recorded with very good eqiupment...it makes for a really weird sound, and with the the amp buzz here, and the out of tune vocal there, it really gets to me.

But overall, if you dont like it, i guess you dont like it.

Gee, those who doesn't know where this quote comes from are missing one of the best heavy metal albums of all time.

BTW, did you know that the band that recorded this album was banned from playing in Argentina some years ago because the Catholic Church proclaimed them as being satanic? I guess that they, on the other hand, would have no problems letting Burzum/Mayhem play there. :-)

Where does one go about buying tickets for the DT show in SF? Are they on sale yet?

Are there any harmonica players on the list? I just bought me a little Lee Oskar Tombo C diatonic for 35 bucks. It's harder than I thought, but it's kinda fun. :)
