Someone wanted to hear some Zappa quotes, heres one:

"I detest "love lyrics". I think one of the causes of bad mental health
in the U.S is that people have been raised on "love lyrics" " Zappa

Sorry if I caught any weak spot there - I said "It's still a damn good =
song (or 'dong') on a hellish good CD", and I meant what I said. Well, I =
don't know if I&W is that "stuffed" with music (How long is it? 58 =
minutes?), but I love it anyway. PMU was the first DT song I heard and =
is still one of their best (guess that's just because it was the first =
    one... you know).

I don't know if "wannabes" need an apostrophe, but "John Patrucci" is =
certainly in need of an "e"! :-)

after listening to the samples, im inclined to agree. they seem electronic
sounding, (stabbing westward was mentioned, i got a gravity kills vibe from
one of the clips) which i personally dont hate, i just have to wonder what the
crowd mentality about that will be. based on the stuff ive heard and read
about how big wreck was treated in various places also makes me think they
will not be well received. the people in columbus werent too hateful, i mean
they werent yelling "you suck" and shit like that at them from what i can
remember. i hate seeing opening bands get treated like that, and it makes me
even madder when its a DT opening band, because a huge amount of the audience
are musicians, youd think they would be understanding of what its like to be
up there when people arent interested in hearing you. then again "how many
guitarists does it take to change a light bulb"........

i cant say if i like them or not, its hard to judge on 30 seconds clips.
i think their vocalist sounds A LOT like scott weiland.

VERY easy.....send a post with ASDF in the damn subject line and the

Hell, Maybe we should post unsubscibing directions at the beginning of

I love reading all this HTML in the jam...

Anyways. I'm bopping around Tower Records in Burlington last night (where
animals eat their young), and I'm looking for the usual stuff. You know, any
new DT (nope, and there's the DTC for this email), any Symphony X (nope),
'Perspectives' by Jason Becker (nope), 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger' by Duran
Duran on CD (nope - and no ragging on me for this one), and a couple of
other things. So I'm really disappointed, and ready to take the kid behind
the counter (who has more metal in his face than a 1971 Chevelle - where do
they find these people?) and scream at him, when I take a peek down the 'R'
section, and in the understock, there it is - Royal Hunt! So I pick myself
up off the floor and buy 'Paradox' (and the new Tactical Knives magazine,
because I'm a psycho mercenary in my spare time).

RH is, IMHO, really good! Very low-key, restrained playing, esp. by the bass
player - who has a rippin' tone - but you get the impression (especially on
Martial Arts) that these guys can tear it up when they want to. The whole
concept of the album (religious) also is very interesting to me, as it's
sort of a side-hobby of mine. I really like it.

And I almost bought Paul Gilbert's new one, but I was born a poor white
Irish boy... that's a story for another time, though. Like when I killed
    that tiger with my shoe....

So I'm a week behind but I got to get this off me.
The PF albums are not alike, in any way, for every album there is
    something new.
Dark side was a project on human stress.
Wish you was a big "miss you" to Syd Barrett
Animals was kick-back-and-play-music-time. Waters have not acliamed that
    album.
The Wall was Rogers egotripp, but with great music by Gilmour and Ezrin.
Final cut was the left over from Wall wchiich the others didn't like,
    and with other musicians.
Momentary was a big bang(we're back)
And The Bell was colm a laid back.
Mr. Gilmour has said that his favorite solo is on "Raise my Rent" from
his solo album from '78 it's also featured on What do you want from me
    of 94.
    This I know.

I don't understand why so many people hate VH III. You should have known
well ahead of time that the fun party songs of Hagar/Roth era were gone.
Gary Cherone's vocal abilities are far better than Roth and Hagar
combined. Did anyone really give this album a few listens before saying
it sucks? Extreme didn't put out fun party songs. I'd like to see some
decent reasons why some people hate this disc.

Ouchie. :) No, I'm serious. I drove behind another car from Ontario yesterday (why are there so many Canadians in Colonial Williamsburg, anyway?) that had the word "Ontario" written in a very boring, plain font. But I know what I saw the other day :)

No, this was during the day, right after I had my daily crack pipe hit.

First, thanks to all - especially Neal and Sis - for all the great KC recommendations. I now know just about everything there is to know about Crimson. :) I will keep you guys apprised as I buy more discs.

I, personally, was unprepared for that. I mean, it's still the same guy writing the music. The same guy that wrote "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and "Me Wise MAgic" a couple of years ago.

    > Gary Cherone's vocal abilities are far better than Roth and Hagar

    Agreed.

    > combined. Did anyone really give this album a few listens before saying > it sucks?

I listened to it for a week straight, waiting for it to grab me by surprise the way Balance and Carnal did. It didn't happen.

    > Extreme didn't put out fun party songs. I'd like to see some > decent reasons why some people hate this disc.

About half of their first album is fun party songs. And let's not forget "Decadence Dance," or a host of other songs on II and III.

The reason I don't like VH III is because the songwriting just isn't trademark Eddie anymore. I think he tried too hard to be serious. Van Halen was always the ultimate party band. They were about one thing, and that was fun. Van Halen getting all deep and serious about anything other than drinking and fucking is about as natural as Metallica playing country tunes. (Oh, sorry.)

I've given VH III its fair share of spins. It just doesn't plaster a smile on my face and leave me humming melodies for the rest of the day.
