Getting a little obsessed with DT here? Living barely 45 miles from
Ontario, I see plenty of license plates from there, and I can tell you
they don't look ANYTHING like the logo's font...

Everything else. *lol* Seriously, that depends on what else you have by
the Red Monarch....their discography is wildly different and doesn't
always appeal to everybody....
1) '69-'71--doomy Moody Blues-ish stuff, except with real musicians and
not just fakes. ;) Very dark. Kind of symphonic. Start with In The Court
of The Crimson King. ITCOTCK is a classic from start to finish. In The
Wake of Poseidon is kind of a reprise of everything on ITCOTCK. Haven't
heard Lizard, and Islands is good stuff to sleep to. Very quiet and
placid, especially considering the rest of the band's stuff. Band
members included Greg Lake, Mike Giles, Ian McDonald, Mel Collins, Boz
Burrell, Keith Tippet, etc.
2) '73-'74--psycho avant garde jazz-metal. This is the John Wetton-Bill
Bruford era, and my personal favorite band of all time. This is
seriously dissonant, angry music, very complex, very free and
improvisational. Red is the most emotional and most accessible; start
there if you're not big on experimental music. This is scarier than most
of wanna be heavy metal acts running around with satan tattooed on their
foreheads these days. Starless And Bible Black is a quasi live album and
as such is pretty wild; kind of incoherent but a good compromise between
it and Larks Tongues In Aspic, which is some of the most abstract music
you will ever hear anywhere. LTIA is very brainy, but not as emotional
as Red. SABB is somewhere in between.
3) '81-'84--this is the Discipline era. Chris, if you like Discipline,
you'll like the others (Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair). TOAPP is very
improvisational and hard to digest, and Beat is a more polished pop
record.
4) '94-??--this is the Double Trio era. Two drummers, two guitarists,
two bassists, and they've got all the latest tricks and gadgets in
electronic music, which makes it impossible to tell who's playing what
when. Very very avant garde, this stuff sounds like nothing else.
Imagine unifying Stockhausen, Eno, industrial, and heavy metal a la the
Wetton-Bruford era...and then making it even harder to listen to (and
all the more rewarding). The only official studio album they've put out
is THRAK, which is just psycho. Other albums include THRaKaTTaK (only
for the seriously adventurous...there's a warning label on the cover,
and they ain't kidding), VROOOM (an EP which is a tad bit more
accessible than THRAK) and B'BOOM, another live album. And now KC is
"fractalizing;" that is, different permutations of the Double Trio are
doing "research and development" for the "greater Crim." projeKCt One is
Bruford, Levin, Fripp, Gunn. Very heavy. Very free. Very good. ProjeKct
Two is Fripp, Gunn, Belew, with Belew playing the new V-Drums (a.k.a.
"the wonder tubs").
Wild shit. Get it all. =)

Quite a few people have been prodding me about the FAQ lately, and I'm
sorry things are taking so damn long. I always figured you just kind of
sit back and relax and toss in some info when enough morons post the same
question to the jam. I never knew how much work you actually had to put
into it to get accurate and complete info.
God and homework willing I'll have an update this weekend... it will be
far from complete, but I will try to present some new info. A ny good FAQ
is far from complete... just as any good web page is always under
construction without the need for those pain in the ass 'under
construction' graphics all over.
As I mentioned before, I will dedicate a section area of my page (with a
link in the FAQ) which will have questions I'm working on answering.
Once this is in effect, I hope you will all take time to look, becuase
you might have the key information that I'm missing. I just maintain the
FAQ, it's you people that make it all possible.

Get "The Concise King Crimson." It is representative of all of their
eras except "Thrak," since "Thrak" was released later. Of course, my
immediate reaction would be "Red" or "The Great Deceiver," but that's
because I'm a redneck :)
While watching Comedy Central last night awaiting the resolution of the
most important paternity dilemma I've yet to be involved with (knock on
wood (not THAT wood ;) ), I wondered what Chef would say if he read the
recent posts to the 'jam regarding UaCM vs. rsabbs:
