That would be like breaking up any measure everytime ANY instrument does a
fill. That would mean the beginning measure of the Another Day solo is in 2/4
because John Petrucci comes in early? If we went by the logic of breaking up
measures for fills - written music would be a mess. So I am POSITIVE this
measure is in 17/16.

The preceding measures are in 4/4. They are in simple time. You are getting
4 notes per beat (we'll just call them sixteenth notes :o). And have you ever
heard of BORROWING a beat from a measure and putting it in another? Well the
17/16th measure borrowed a 16th note from the last measure - hence it is
15/16. And I agree count IT OUT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD

Oh - and the tab book put it as 4/4 and 7/8 or combined as one - 15/8 NOT
13/8. So you aren't even going along with the tab book.
You do realize the whole point of the intro? The instruments are keeping a
constant time while Portnoy keeps changing the beat around. If Portnoy had
just played the whole intro in bass/snare/bass/snare 12/8 feel - the song
would sound entirely different - although the instruments (other than the kit)
wouldn't change.

Anyway, I read ALOT of debate over this KevMo *vs* DerShe thing and
started thinking..... In what ways do you think FII would be different
if KevMo was STILL in DT?? To kinda get the ball rolling, IMO I believe
that the Keys would sound ALOT better AND I don't believe AL would have
been composed.....What do you have to say.

um - he edited as in did a quick look over of some of the HARDER guitar parts.
I doubt Petrucci checked the GUITAR PART for that part of The Mirror. I mean
- it is a simple as it gets for guitar. ANYONE can play the intro to The
Mirror on guitar.
It sounds right. The notes are right - but the time sigs are not. It is like
calling E# - F :o). It will sound right - but it isn't right in certain
theoretical instances. This is a "was it written correctly" not "does it
sound right" thing. I will agree that the guitar part is right. I did
however attend a Portnoy clinic about 3 years ago in which he stated exactly
17/16 and 15/16. I remember the question vividly BECAUSE I ASKED IT :oP
I also asked about the second part of the second verse of The Mirror. It is
so simple yet so cool.
When it comes to the transcriptions of WDADU, IAW, and Awake for ALL
instruments - I take great exception because I painstakingly transcribed
almost all of it.

Hello! I recently got two CDs for which I'd like to post reviews:
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth
This CD is very good. I only have IFTOS to compare it to, but I think the
new one is as good as Imaginations... Very melodic songs, and heavy.
Explorers Club - Age of Impact
All I can say is wow. This CD just kicks ass. Event though it's divided
into 5 impacts, it all sounds like one song, ala APSOG. I agree with the
drums and bass thing everyone has mentioned - they're pretty hard to hear
unless they're doing something flashy. But everything else just sounds
great. I guess Gardner must like Petrucci's playing a lot, since John
definitely has a bunch more solos than any other guitarist, keyboardist,
etc. Hey, is it just me or does D.C. Cooper sound kinda like John Arch?
And if you like Bozzio's drumming, then get Steve Vai's Sex and Religion.
Bozzio plays really well there, especially on Touching Tongues. His
drumming (at least on that song) is just so different from what almost
everybody else would play...
Well, that's it.

August 18t at the village. They've also opened for Blue Oyster Cult.

one of those "hooked by PMU" types.....took until TTT hit the airwaves
to get in dead sold on DT.........and to this day, PMU is just another
song on I&W, whereas LiTS is THE song on FII for me.....

Josh Raisel raised an interesting comparison between LitS and PMU. It's
DEFINITELY all subjective, as he points out, but I'll take LitS any day.
In fact, though I'm probably in the vast minority here, I'll take FII over
I&W. Don't get me wrong, I&W ranks (with O:M and AJFA) as probably my
most listened to albums of all time, but songs like LitS, NM, ToT, HK,
etc., just capture so much for me....
Subjective, definitely. I'm curious, though... anyone else take FII over
I&W? LitS over PMU?

I know there's folks from Asia on here too (and we all
know about Europe, Australia, and South America). So, yeah,
strictly speaking, DT's influence reaches across all continents.

put together a tribute album on a very limited budget to praise a band that

songs with no remorse? What's The Band's official stance on this? Was it

Way to cool.....In other news, a friend of mine just got that Philips home
stereo
Cd-r unit (available at Sears).....works pretty slick, but you need Digital
Audio
cd-r's for it to work (the "normal" computer cd-r's won't work ) .....And
duplicating a cd is real easy, especially if you have a cd-player with an
optical digital cable as the source player....Just a little info for you
that's not normally shared until it's bought and too late, in case anyone is
interested in this unit....

I don't know much about Conception (I've never heard 'em yet), but I can
tell you that Ray Kahn (sp?) is the new singer for Kamelot. From what
I've been told, their latest CD with Kahn ("Siege Perilous") is really
good.
