    Previously on the Ytsejam...

    Joe DeAngelo said:

    >Shhhhhhhh! Don't tell everyone my secret! :-)

    ..to be continued...

    >And I don't think a band would do 8 albums or whatever and then just
    >wake up one morning and say "let's do a good Satanic disc!"

    They might.

    >"You damn kids listening to that DEVIL MUSIC! That damn ......what're
    >they called again?.......
    >Dream Theater! Devil stuff I tell you! That drummer even looks like
    >he's straight from the gates of HELL!"
    >;-)

You didn't run into that couple of christians I know, did you? This sounds
    exactly
like the stuff they're always telling me. Apparently it's the lyrics that
    have been
written by the antichrist himself. Here's an example:

"...is there fantasy in refuge, God in politicians,
should I turn on my religion, these demons in my head tell me to..."

Now, the way they see it, JP asks himself if he should turn on his
    religion, because the
demons tell him to, but he doesn't say he won't do it, which makes him the
    messenger
from satan. Go figure, and you guys thought it was Mike! Fooled you, huh?

The way I see it, it sounds like a man struggling within, and the
    indecisiveness it
leads to. I don't know, if this stuff is in the faq, then it's well hidden,
    cause I couldn't
find anything on "Voices", my favourite off Awake.

Oh yeah, by the way, Magellan is antichristian as well, just so you know ;-)

On the ytse mirror's Derek interview it says and i copy/paste:

    Q. On that same note, how much would you say you contribute to the overall DT sound? Do you feel you have a significant input?

Derek: My initial seeds for Falling into Infinity were 'Lines in the Sand', 'New Millenium', 'Anna Lee', and 'Hells Kitchen'. The guys were very receptive to my ideas. -----------------

So now, i find it interesting that basically LITS,nM and HK, were initial ideas of Derek, and basically those are the songs that in the eyes of many FII/Derek bashers are the "good" songs on fII... Comments?

Hey Scott, I didn't mean to burst your bubble by being a fan of DT while NOT being a musician. I confess, I do own a guitar. But my parents decided not to include any music-playing ability into my gene pool. So I can play a couple of Jewel songs....that's about it. (not to say all of her music is simple, just a little more accessible) But I do understand FEEL and EMOTION. DT plays music the way I always thought it should be played. They don't leave anything out! It was my lack of ability to play the guitar well which gave me an appreciation for the beauty with which a gifted musician can express himself. Michael Schenkar and Ritchie Blackmore come to mind as my primary influences - these guys could put emotion into songs! Take "Love to Love" by UFO, "The Desert Song" by MSG, "Eyes of Fire" by Rainbow. It is the feel of the music that strikes me first, followed by amazement at the ability of the musicians to be able to express that feeling to a person who can't speak the language. (that language being MUSIC) It is the same way you might appreciate a sculpture by Rodin, while not understanding how that sculpture was created. In the end, it doesn't matter what technique was used. The end result touched your soul. Art is in my blood. I do create things with my imagination and my hands. Musical-playing ability just wasn't part of the package. So, though I'm not a musician, we do share a common thread of creativity and expression. As for DT, they are masters of their medium. And their work has touched my soul.
