For the life of me, I cannot figure out why Derek's sex life is so damn
important to you ppl. I mean, this is worse than the Lewinsky thing. Who
cares if Derek is humpin' every hole he can or can't get into?
Not me. Some ppl are just too caught up in the net. You need to get out
and get some sun, and a LIFE.
I mean, I've been watching this list for MONTHS and this is just pathetic.
I'm sure DT is proud to have a list full of nosey dumbasses that like to
    ponder their sex lives.

You ppl really need to get lives. This is as pathetic a mailing list as
I've seen in a long time.

No, it's not. I got the CD and the production sucks. There are good moments
and all but these kids have to learn a lot, IMO. Especially concerning
songwriting. There isn't a single memorable melody in the whole CD.
    Sound-wise it's not great either.

    >Look at Dream Theater. How much money have they spent to work with Kevin

Not too smart of you to say that. FII is anything but alternative.

    >SELL OUT WITH FALLING INTO INFINITY and that's the truth.

Yada Yada Yada. You should be kicked out of the list for two reasons now:
the talk of selling out, and for using Mime format. Not too smart.

So about the Kevin vs Derek debate....

I personally liked Kevin more....he gave DT a GREAT classical side to
it...I mean, look at Space-Dye Vest (I love it:).
Derek seems to be into more distorted keyboard effects. Which can be
cool at times...but I love pianos, and Kevin is a great pianist.
DT needs to make lots more songs like Space-Dye Vest. Kevin wrote some
    pretty cool lyrics too.

So Derek, if you see this, do some more piano sounding stuff:)

Classical, and Rock/Metal....my two favorite types of music!

If alternative music sounded THAT good, I'd be a fuckin' fan! Besides,
I don't think I'd be throwing names like "suckman" around the list so
freely. I'd bet that Shirley's going to appear on the next album. You
know why? Because DREAM THEATER liked working with him. Have you even
heard Liquid Tension Experiment yet? Go look at the production crew
credits. And in my opinion, LTE sounds fuckin' awesome.

    > Actually, I'm in more than 6 maling lists and every one is flaming about Dream Theater's

Here in American magazines, the Ashouriha family have been seen in
exclusive photographs poking eachother with hot iron rods screaming
"PROG OR DIE! PROG OR DIE!" and are the source of Kenneth Starr's
inspiration to prosecute the entire White House staff. Actually, I'm on
more than 6 mailing lists (alt.psycho.progfans,
    alt.guntoting.diaperhead.psychos, alt.drug-fiends.prog, the Crazy
Fuckers mailing list, "Caught in A Rash", and this one) dedicated to
making fun of the Ashouriha brothers and every one is laughing their
asses off about YOUR DELUDED SENSES OF OPINION AND TRUTH.

    > I always thought, Dream Theater are agianst confirmity but Falling Into...

They are. How many bands nowadays knows what a double bass drum kit
    looks like anymore?

    > sounding total 90's like,

That's cuz it was written and recorded in the 1990's, dillhole. :)
    What'd you expect, a 2034-sounding album? :P

    > the songs are not complex and this sucks.

Here's an idea: Go out and buy an instrument. I don't care what, a
guitar, a synth, a drum kit..whatever. You spend some time learning
it. And when you can, without error, come back and play Lines in the
Sand and Trial of Tears note for note with as much soul as the guys in
DT do, then I'll listen to your pissing and moanings.

No no, I won't even then. When you start writing your own goddamn
music, and can make it as "technically challenging and complex" as you
want, THEN come back here. I doubt anybody will listen to you then
    either.

    > The same gose to Rush. In the 70's they've made great music. In the 80's they went
    > to radio commercial songs. In the 90's (Test For The Echo) they went alternative.

I'll be kafuckered. They sounded like a straight up rock band, but an
alternative rock band? Come on man, Geddy's voice isn't THAT annoying!
    ;^)

    > But you all rave about them because you are blind and will love eveyrthing they make.

This coming from a guy who continues to say that the production of an
album made by a bunch of teenaged rockers is SUPERB, even after a whole
flock of seasoned listeners and prog fans have said IT SUCKS....

After Arash's continued crap about how great Empty Tremor is, I was
repulsed from the idea of ordering a tape. Now with this little gem of
an email, I'm completely turned off to the idea of listening to Empty
    Tremor. Good sales tactics guys.

    > What about if Rush will play on a Nirvana tribute ?

    Nirvana might be enjoyable?

    > You are not a Progressive Metal fan, you are a Dream Theater fan.
    > You will buy all their records and will love it only because it's > Dream Theater.

Does anybody else get the feeling this guy goes out to college campuses
with a "Holy Bible of Musical Tastes" once in a while?

    > OH YEAH THAT's CREATIVITY AND EMPTY TREMOR SUCK BECAUSE THEY MAKE PROG AT IT'S BEST !

    > WAKE UP. 1994 (Awake) is over. Now you have prog killers like
    > You Not me, Burning My Soul, Take Away My pain, and Anna Lee. Ha ha ha.
    > You can't compare Falling Into Infinity with masterworks like Symphony X's
    > Divine Wings Of Tragedy or Empty Tremor's Apocolokyntosys.

I will. I still enjoy Falling Into Infinity much more than either of
those. NOt because I'm a blind sheep of a DT fan, but because the
musical ideas stand out and on their own, they're not contrived or
ripped off; while DWoT blew me away the first couple of listens, after a
while all the songs on the album sorta blended together in my mind.
With Falling Into Infinity, each song is a wholey different treat.

    Hello Jammers.
I've got a point or two to make and I hope I don't ramble too much.

    1) All this slamming of FII just gets me down. As I told another jammer
in private email..Subtley reigns on FII. You can't just listen to it and
expect to like it right away, you have to give it several spins. And
the whole YouNotMe -vs- YouOrMe (demo) is rather tiresome. This is two
very different versions of one song...but WTH I like BOTH simply because
they are DT. Although I do, however, treat them as that-- two DIFFERENT
songs. The point--> I like both simply because it is DT. I relish every
recording I have of them and listen to them all, again, simply because
    it's DT. End o' point.
    2) Has anyone ever tried to define Progressive?? Much less Prog-Metal?
My guess is that it would be a building of ideas to a better end...for
example: without WDADU and I&W, would DT have been able to **progress**
far enough to make FII. I listen to FII as a progression of the band
whether it be thru ideas or time or simply as musicians. It's all
growing and building to (in the end) a much better and (out on a limb
here) more mature band. And with maturity, IMO comes better expression
of ideas, hence, FII. To sum up, Living is Learning and we're all still
    Learning to Live.

Just a few opinions of my own.

    POJ =o)

P.S. putting on flame-retardant suit now....Just in case!

    Message-ID: <26a85138.35ce34c8@aol.com>

Mike Portnoy already chastised me with the LtL/Lifting Shadows - Myung thing.
I didn't mind. I know the BAND writes the music (with few exceptions) - but I
know some member has to have the SPARK to start the song. I read an interview
with John Petrucci that stated John Myung had the bass line to Lifting Shadows
for awhile before it was finished - so I consider that a Myung spark (even
though I am aware the whole band contributed). I just like to know the
originators of certain songs so I can gain a better understanding on their
    writing style.

Recently - someone brought up Eve in the context of Kevin Moore. I have (as I
am sure most do) bootlegs with the Cow version of Eve - but was the initial
spark for Eve? I also have a John Petrucci clinic where JP plays a song with
parts of Eve in it - but it isn't entirely Eve. Petrucci called it "Slow
    Motion".

So does anyone with some REAL insight know who brought the idea of Eve into
Dream Theater. It has Kevin Moore written all over - but the JP clinic threw
me for a loop on that one.

Please, no posts with "I know its Kevin Moore's baby because it just sounds
like Kevin Moore, duh". It gets old quick.

Yes! I cannot believe that no one has posted about this yet. I went to
the Great Woods show expecting an average DT show with a poor audience
reaction and a short setlist. Boy was I wrong! They were in absolute
top form and played tighter than ever. And they won over the crowd BIG
TIME! I kept looking around and seeing all of the DP/ELP fans in total
shock. I saw 40 year old married couples dancing around and clapping
their hands. After they finished the got a huge applause. Even the
local classic rock radio station (100.7 WZLX) were raving about them on
    the air!

The setlist was the same as the previous show and I assume that it will
remain unchanged for the remainder of the tour. It went as follows:

                            NEW MILLENNIUM
                            6:00
                            PERUVIAN SKIES/HAVE A CIGAR/ENTER SANDMAN
                            PULL ME UNDER
                            HOLLOW YEARS
                            METROPOLIS pt.1 (without jam)

I have never seen the band so inspired in the 7 times that I have seen
them. The were pumped the whole set. Derek and Mike: Thank you for
such an amazing show. Ytsejammers: Go see this tour!

    Hey gang -

Okay, I need some recommendations here. I'm strongly considering purchasing
some of the older Stratovarius albums, and I need to know which ones I should
get before the others. I already have "Episode" and "Visions" and the new
double live album. I really like Episode, but Visions is just AMAZING! I
absolutely love every song on Visions. I think the only songs I totally freak
over on Episode is "Father Time" and "Seasons Of Change", although the rest of
the album is very solid. That said, where should I go from here? I want to
eventually get Dreamspace, Fourth Dimension, Fright Night, and Twilight Time.
Can someone suggest an order of purchase or which songs are particularly
great? Private e-mail would be fine, but on the Jam would be alright as well.
    Thanks in advance!!!

I'm gettin a little tired of the You Not Me - Bon Jovi references just because
Desmond Child had a hand in the song (albeit a terrible hand). I doesn't
sound like Bon Jovi AT ALL.

and Elton "GAY" John + Beatles = Anna Lee
first off Elton John + Beatles = cool mix
    second - wtf mention GAY?

An if any of you wondered why Derek sounded so "macho" during his reply - it
may be a HUMAN reaction from reading 1,000 posts on the Jam questioning his
sexuality. Hey atleast Derek is having sex. :oP

    Hi -

    One more question about Stratovarius....

I know this came up some time ago, but I don't remember what the answer was,
and I can't find it on the official Strat page. Of the 2 bonus tracks on
"Visions", I know that one was a live recording of "Uncertainty", and the
other track is "Black Diamond". Is that a demo of BD? Or is it a studio
outtake... what's the difference between that track and the "official" track
on the album? Thanks in advance for the info.....

I only have two things to say:

1- Derek was damn cool when I met him, so as far as his personality goes,
that's all I need or want to know.

2- If people want to talk about which keyboardist you like better, go for
it. But there's no need to bash people, and for god's sake, quit saying
the same damn things over and over. We've all seen 8 million ond one posts
saying that they like Kevin because he had good lyrics or a classical
feel, or they like Derek because he grooves. If it's already been said,
don't waste everyone's time - nobody is taking a fucking poll, we don't
give a shit exactly what percentage of us 1300 like Kevin vs. Derek. In
short, if you have nothing new to contribute, shut your fucking dough
    hole.
