Anyone know what's up with the Ytse Football league on ESPN? Has someone
started a league yet? The early bird special ends monday (not that its a
big deal or anything). It's $29.95. We all had a blast last season.

Anyone know anything about "keepers"? I sure would like to be able to have
    Favre again. :)

Here's what I'd like to see. 1, Mike Portnoy flame somebody on the jam.
Can you imagine it? I think it would be the funniest post in ytsejam
history. Second, Mike Portnoy flaming Derek. Band member public flames on
the internet. Awesome, put it on pay per view. third, somebody flame Mike.
This would obviously degenerate to Mike flaming a ytsejam member. Fourth,
James, JP and JM getting on the list, posting as often as I do, flaming
us, us flaming them, them flaming each other, and general chaos reigning
on the Jam. Lastly, skadz booting a dt member for posting in html. There
you go, the ultimate bitch slap.

Why using a Distorted guitar patch on a keyboard is a Bad Thing (tm)

I think it comes down to a matter of respect. It implies "you aren't doing a good enough job on your instrument, so I'm going to sound like you and show you hwo it should be done" --- The point of having both guitar and keys in a band should be for DIFFERENT timbres, different feels. It would be disrespectful to use a saxophone sound for a keyboard solo if your band had a sax player. If the song calls for a solo with a distored guitar sound, iut should be done on distorted guitar. Also, a keyboard (currently) cannot equal the expressiveness of a guitar sound (when playing a gutar sound) -- direct manipulation of the strings has a lot going for changing the tonal quality.

If you're doing a keyboard solo, it should clearly be a keyboard solo. You can sound much more expressive when you aren't trying to emulate something else. Witness Derek's Prophecy (?) solo sound he uses a lot on FII and AOI. Sounds nothing like a guitar, but extremely expressive.

I only use guitar sounds on mey boards when composing a guitar part to be played by a guitarist. It never sounds as good as a real guitar would.

ugh. crap. just read 10 jams and can't remember any more content than the guitar/key thread. Shows where my brain is at. :)

Oh, and damon: Take any key playing job you can. You can never go wrong choosing "playing something" over "playing nothing" -- who knows, you might get famous, or at least known enough to become a session player. And, look what that did for Derek.

Gonna go shut up now and play with my new toys. (EX-5R, A-90, JV-2080)

Well, personally, I don't mind using guitar patches in songs and I would love to hear Derek's response the the guitar sounds thread. However, I don't think it is disrespectful. If there are two guitarists in a band, then it's ok. Yes, one should not use guitar sounds on a keyboard all the time, but sometimes shouldn't be a problem.

I've read a lot about UK and if somebody could be so kind and post what they sound like and what CD I should get first, I appreciate it :)

I can't believe somebody flamed Derek... talk about negativism... sheesh... I mean, it's already stupid to even question the sexuality of a member of a band you like. Or their dating methods. Who is here to JUDGE anybody, much less these guys from DT who dedicate time and effort to communicate with their fans the way they do? Are you guys now gonna try to analyze every piece of personal information you can possible get and then decide wether they'll go to heaven or hell or if they'll reach nirvana? It's no wonder people like Neil Peart keep away from their fans like the devil from the= cross. And what planet is KorgX3 from?

    Hey, look what I found:

    > Whoa! Well Derek, it seems like you are reading your digests, so, > let me say one little thing:

Well Derek, now that Matt has performed the honours of flaming the shit out of you, you can proceed to the final stage before you become an OFFICIAL Ytsejammer. Your mission is to tear Matt a new asshole. This is the toughest stage of all, because it it involves going where no man has gone before. Only the bravest challengers are able to endure this stage. But just think of the great rewards and treasures you will reap from this adventure. Imagine: Matt will become TWICE the fun! (And you thought we were just one big happy family... no way dude, did you really think the plot was THAT shallow???) This stage involves the following steps (make sure you follow them in order, or all hell could break loose!):

Step 1: Planning. You must plan your tactics carefully. I shouldn't need to tell you why, because it's obvious: in the movies, how often do you see the bad guys win? Not often, eh? Well, y'know why? It's obviously because they DIDN'T PLAN THEIR STINKIN TACTICS properly!

Step 2: The threat. This is where you get to exercise your creativity. But you must find some way to incorporate the phrase "I'LL FLATTEN YOU LIKE A FUCKING PANCAKE, BOYEEEE!!!" This part is compulsory... it's worth MAJOR style points! And if you don't think the judges will notice, THINK AGAIN BUDDY, they nail people ALL THE TIME on this.

Step 3: I shouldn't need to tell you. It's step 3. This one's in the faqing fuck (not to be conflused with the flying fuck, the fucking faq, or the fucking fuckfuck).

Step 5: Pronounce Ptacek. Hahaha, okay, this really isn't a step, I just thought it would be fun to test you with something hard. (The concensus here of course, is "ppttthhh-whathefuckcek???")

Step 7: Victory. This occurs when Mike Bahr agrees with you. You can try and encourage this by saying "And I think Mike Bahr would agree", but be careful! If you invoke this tactic too often, your opponents (and Bahr himself) will catch on, and it will BACKFIRE! So BE CAREFUL!

Step 11: Love. Love is the Dance of Eternity. This is the final step. Quite simply, you must instigate Bahr War MMMXXXVII. That will grant you Ytsejam immortality (not to be confused with regular immortality - of course, none of us can defy the great dancing turtle when he decides it's our time... BTW, the turtle is so obviously a homo, because come on, how many normal guys do you know that can actually dance? And considering how much harder it is for a turtle to dance, he'd have to be some kind of scary ass hootenanny!), and then you'll be able to enjoy sweet lovin' for the rest of eternity!

Pretty easy isn't it? Now YOU GO BOY! Sick'im!

    > Why do you play your keyboard with a distortioned tone in the > instrumental part, before the solo, in Under a Glass Moon?

Oh, and while we're on the subject, why do you count in base 10? It's so obvious that base 11 is far superior (I mean, duh, it's prime... just think of all the advantages when it comes to modulo arithmetic!), so it would make far more sense. And only having 10 fingers should not be a problem, in fact, it could make counting a LOT more fun! I think DT should count everything in base 11. I bet Kevin Moore could cuont in base 11.

/me thinks finals are getting to him a touch

Yep, Russell Allen is one hell of a singer. And Zak Stevens? He's 'DA MAN. My favorite singer. 'Nuff said.

I agree with Vince here 100% again. (Damn, this is getting scary) :-) Just because neo-classical ISN'T classical doesn't mean it's still not great stuff.

Hey Vince (or anybody else here) - Can anybody else recommend any other good neo-classical/symphonic metal in the vein of Symphony X (one of my favorites), or Savatage (my 2nd favorite group after DT)?

While on on the topic: Vince, have you heard any Therion? I think you'd probably really like "Vovin" and "Theli".

Also, is that new Yngwie CD any good (the Concerto Suite one..... or whatever it's called)? I have one of his discs (the Collection one) and I kinda like it - but I'm not really THAT crazy about it.

Sorry, but this is my week of being angry. :-)

Humm... I think that I need a moderated version of Ytsejam. Perhaps I'm getting old, but I just don't find all the recurring topics here as interesting as I once thought they were. Perhaps it's the damn repetition. Perhaps it's the never-ending flame wars. Perhaps it's just me.

But where is Metropolis or Voices when you need them?? Where is that Charone (sp) Fraenkel (sp) lazy ass?? I think that if he isn't competent to be the fucking moderator of Voices, he should let other people do the job and I'm sure that there would be other people willing to fulfill the needs.

The problem is that the signal per noise ratio of this mailing list is getting so low that it's disgusting. Please, if you need to flame someone, go watch TV. It's as constructive (if you know what I mean) and you won't bother other people.

Sorry, but I'm in a bad mood... pfffff...

Hey Jammers- I beleive comparing musicians is basically asking who/what band you lkie better. If you ask somebody who's a better guitarist, Jewel or JP, they tell you Jewel just because they like Jewel better. Its all a matter of which artist not ability, you like better. TRo me, it makes no sense. Betwwen their education and experience, its impoossible to compare any kind of musician. In other words, I think KevMo and DerShe are equal in the sense that they both contribute their share to the band, and are part of OFB. Thus we should like both of them equally. Do I like Charlie? Yes, I think his vocals are equal to KJLB except the mix is worse on WDADU. So, quit your complaining about who gets who. Its still DT? Right? Thats enough outta me. The Fox television network (and perhaps others) have been bombarding prime time television with some stupid commercials for some no-talent hack that calls himself "Tommy D." Who the fuck is the money behind this pathetic excuse for a musician? This pisses me off, big time. DT is lucky to get a few copies of FII in the CD superstores, meanwhile some little puke's management is spending millions of dollars for TV advertising and overstocking the shelf's nationwide in hopes that millions of foaming at the crotch, misguided teenage girls will drool over his baby blues, and go out and buy this drivel.
